I've just started adding video (DVD) shows.

Notes on audio shows:

Track listings, timings and lineups for just about all these shows are stored in the Notes field - click on the show date to view it.

Please ensure that you record DAO (no gaps between tracks!) - let me know if this is a problem and I'll try and help.

I don't have strong feelings about the brand of CDR to be used by me or you (please let me know if you do). I'm more interested in track listings and your honest assessment of the quality of your shows.

1. 03/06/78 El MoCambo Club - Toronto, ON Classic live set taken from the midst of EC's meteoric rise. This might be the official Rhino release, since it lacks EC's comment before "The Beat" about how they've come from England to ask for the country back. Pity they couldn't have also removed The Amazingly Irritating Screaming Man from the audience as well. Great performance from the band - just listen to them ratchet up the tension on "Lipstick Vogue", for instance. Martin Belmont (gtr) sits in on final track. 1 A+
2. 05/20/96 Paradise Rock Club - Boston, MA Acoustic show with Steve Nieve (pno), playing almost all of "All This Useless Beauty", plus a variety of others (great version of "The Long Honeymoon", and an early outing for "God Give Me Strength"). Impassioned singing and playing, plus lots of between-song chat (which is a bit puerile in places). Source (tracks 4,5,7,10,28,32) of the Boston tracks (disc 4) on the "Costello & Nieve" boxset. FM broadcast - very good quality. 2 A+
3. 05/03/03 NPR Piano Jazz - New York, NY Duets w/ Marian McPartland (pno), Gary Mazzaroppi (ac bs). Unusual set of classic covers (plus a couple of originals) in sparse arrangements; I think his pitch wavers slightly in places. Interspersed with interesting interviews. Date is that of recording; show was broadcast on 09/30/03. FM broadcast. Very nice sound. 1 A+

Good setlist, although the inclusion of "The Ball Of Kerrymuir" (now a rugby song) is odd, in spite of his lengthy preamble justifying it. Also includes 4 tracks from 08/73 (see below). Sound is pretty good, considering its age. 1 A

John McLaughlin, Larry Coryell & Paco De Lucia
Date Venue - City, State Tech notes Media
1. 02/13/79 Unknown - Barcelona, Spain Trio, plus (presumably) duo and solo numbers, though they can't be distinguished. Interesting that the set already contains "Mediterranean Sundance" (written by Paco De Lucia and Al Di Meola) prior to Di Meola replacing Coryell in the lineup. Coryell was to record his version of it on his "Return" LP later this year after this tour. Also includes a JM interview from 12/16/80. Sound is quite muffled and hissy. 1 A-
2. 02/14/79 Royal Albert Hall - London, England Fantastic playing by all of these three as usual, though JM dominates on this selection with the 25 minute "Meeting Of The Spirits". However, the other tracks are good too (inc. an interesting snippet of a rehersal backstage for "Guardian Angels"). I was at this show. Good sound - probably from the "Meeting Of The Spirits" DVD (see my video list). 1 A+

1. 09/24/77 Roberts Theatre - Grinnell, IA MAAP 4. Nice composite show, assembled from two sets on this date. "Phase Dance", that workhouse of subsequent PMG sets, is introduced as just having been written. PM dedicates his tune "Nacada" (from the Gary Burton Quartet's "Passengers") to his parents, in the audience. My copy was originally TAO, so I degapped it and removed some of the longer silences. PM's remarks between songs are very quiet, and there's some cassette hiss, but I haven't done anything about that. 2 A
