I believe the above location is correct based on http://www.last.fm/user/jmtalley8121/journal/2006/08/8/202581/ . I originally thought it was from a place called the Goat House in Sammammish WA, which is why you'll see that in people's lists. Sorry. |

copied 1998. Note on 32khz DATs -- By definition, frequencies above 16kHz are cut. This allows a 2 hour tape to hold 4 hours of music. Analog cassette recordings rarely hold anything other than tape hiss above the 16kHz mark. For this reason, cassettes (especially lower quality ones) rarely lose quality when copied to 32kHz dat. |

still very enjoyable though. isaac is
sounding young and not TOO drunk.
this short set was an opener for

like my last seed,3-1-2002 this came
from a friend of a friend of MM's

The mm1998 Gabe's Oasis text file is the original txt that came
with this show. I made this txt file to correct the date.
After searching http://www.angelfire.com/dc/mmth/97-10-23.html,
I feel that 10-23-97 is most likely the correct date. Considering
there are no other Gabe's Oasis shows in 1998 and the setlists are
identical. This copy is missing one song, Shit Luck.
DO NOT ENCODE TO MP3, this show is very rare.

DONE BEFORE THE TAPER HAD DIGITAL TRANSFER CAPABILITES AND BEFORE HE KNEW OF CDWAV FOR TRACK
SPLITTING.
AT THE SOUNDBOARD THAT NIGHT WERE THE ABOVE D8 AND TWO MINI DISC RECORDERS. ONE MINI DISC
FAILED. THE OTHER RECORDED BUT WITH MANY ERRORS. THE DAT RECORDER RAN OUT OF TAPE DURING THE
LAST 10 SECONDS OF 'ALL NIGHT DINER'. A STROKE OF LUCK PROVIDED GOOD AUDIO ON THOSE 10 SECONDS
AND THE CLOSING APPLAUSE FROM THE MINI DISC RECORDING. THE TAPER DOES NOT HAVE THE LINEAGE OF
THOSE 10 SECONDS.
THIS SHOW IS PRETTY COOL SINCE THERE IS PLENTY OF BROCK-STYLE SMART-ASS COMMENTS THROUGHOUT.
'I CAME AS A RAT' WAS NEW AND THE BAND HAD RECENTLY BROUGHT BACK 'ALL NIGHT DINER'.
AS A TYPICAL SOUNDBOARD RECORDING, THE LEAD VOCALS ARE OVER MIXED. THIS ISN'T A BAD THING IF
YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND ISAAC BROCK. A NASTY SIDE EFFECT OF CRYSTAL BALLROOM RECORDINGS DURING
THIS ERA IS AN OVERDRIVEN MICROPHONE RESPONSE TO THE BASS GUITAR MIC AND SOMETIMES THE BASS
DRUM MIC. A GROUP OF TAPERS TRIED TO FIGURE OUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT WERE UNABLE. IT ALSO
HAPPENED AT BERBATI'S PAN UNTIL THEY BOUGHT A NEW SOUND SYSTEM. THERE ARE A FEW SONGS HERE
THAT ARE HURT BY THIS PHENOMENON. |

HE BASS CHANNEL IS TOO HOT. THE BASS AMP WAS BEING MIC'ED INSTEAD OF BEING RUN DIRECTLY INTO THE MIX. ONE MIGHT SPECULATE THAT THE BASS MIC WAS DRIVEN PAST IT MAXIMUM SOUND PRESSURE LEVEL. THIS SET UP WAS NOTICED AT OTHER SHOWS WITH SIMILAR PROBLEMS IN THE BOARD MIX. THE PROBLEM IS MOST NOTICABLE IN THIS SHOW WHEN ERIC JUDY HITS THE STRINGS HARD. |

I have the DVD that's up close and not the one found on google filmed from in the back of the audience.
Modest Mouse and Built to Spill crossed paths for two nights in Atlanta and co-headlined consecutive nights at the Variety Playhouse. I couldn't get tickets so this was the next best thing. They played in wigs and outfits from the Junkman's Daughter store. The crowd was quite chatty and the only things amplified were the singer's voice and acoustic guitar. The bassist had a small amp and the drummer had a small unamplified set. |

Some various tiny crackles in the right channel, which seems to have came trough the soundboard feed.
Two other known sources were ran, I have already compared this to one of the sources and even with the
small amount of crackling this sounds better then the AUD/AKG source.
Fades and a few pops were removed with soundforge. |

* Theres a break in the music because a stage diver got into a fight with a roadie. The lead singer of MM takes his guitar off and starts swinging it at the stage diver. He has to re-tune then finishes the song. Good stuff!
** Song is continued. Tracks 13 and 14. My disc ran out. Had to change in the middle of the song. Rookie mistake.

This was the first show I ever recorded so be gentle with criticism.
The band wasn't allowing soundboards at these shows because they
were being recorded for the Baron Von Bullshit Rides Again live CD.
I like audience recordings better anyway because it sounds like you're
really there. You get to relive the screaming girl that was a little
to the left of me. It's not too bad.. mostly between songs or at the
very beginning. There's some interesting comments throughout too. |

Modest Mouse played the Radio 1 Stage (i.e. second biggest) at about 3:30 on the first (very muddy) afternoon of the festival. They were scheduled to play for 45 minutes but came on late (due to technical problems?) so had to cut some of their set. |

The band was slow to start due some technical problems. Isaac's guitar just would not
get in tune or was broken somehow. This took about 25 mins to remedy. At the beginning of the show
some chick and her toyfriend were screaming and making chicken sounds directly into my mics.
I almost let those bitches feel the pain but I didn't want to sacrifice my gear.
The fans we very rauckus and chanted themselves silly to all the Good News choruses they knew.
Anyway, the songs were cut short in the end due to no time left. Great show again for MM.
The show was OK and it sounds decent, it was a good venue for recording.
Hope you like! |

In the beginning the show was average. The Mouse started out with one the usual favs of the new
album then jumped into a little paper thin walls and back on to some new stuff. I was apprehensive but they
led into doin' the cockroack which was rockin. The other new songs were good but then the bomb dropped and
they let it go by the name of Dramamine! Which I hadn't heard them play in 5 years. It was one of the best
sounding Dramamines I have ever heard live or recorded. The rest of the show was killer at that point with
many people's doubts no longer around. The mouse has returned and my faith revived. The extra drums
were a treat as the fills were tight and completed the percussion spectrum. They did not
let me down at all. The crowd was fully pumped as the show came to a close and cheered afterward for
about 5 minutes before the mouse returned for an encore. The encore was clean and simple. Bankrupt set it straight!
Overall the show was excellent and it sounds good, it was a good venue for recording. |

minutes before their set, and it affected the show in a really positive way.

There was a 2 song encore which was not recorded due to the fact that this concert took place on an Island, and the only way back to the mainland was via ferry.....a 2 hour wait ferry. I assume the taper, like myself stuck around for the last song in the initial set list, and then used it as a cue to leave in hopes of beating the long long wait back to the mainland.
Regardless, Modest Mouse was on fire this night.
Broken Social Scene raised the bar pretty high
(premiering a number of new songs early into their
set) but Modest Mouse came through and matched them.
While Kevin Drew constantly felt the need to rant on
end with what’s wrong with the world, Isaac Brock just slipped in a subtle comic anecdote here and there.
Both left many scratching their heads as their comments pretty much came out of left field. |

The beginning of the show started off really nice with the Mouse playing some of the usual favs off the Good News album and then they jumped into a little paper thin walls and back on to some new stuff. I was epecting to hear some new ones off their yet unrealeased album (Dam Sony/Epic!) and they didn't let me down when they played some rockin new ones. That song Dashboard was really good!!! The extra drum kit is a treat as the fills were tight and completed the percussion spectrum. They then played another from the Good News album. The crowd was fully pumped as the show came to a close and cheered afterward for about five minutes before the mouse returned for an encore. The encore was clean and simple. Two songs, the first a new one which was really good especially after some crowd jeering by Isaac. They let the second song go by the name of Dramamine!! Overall the show was pretty good even though Isaac seemed a bit off. Isaac stated that this was thier first show in a year. Anyway it sounds clean and it was a good venue for recording.

No nearby crowd noise, I had friends on both sides and the seats behind me were empty until the end of the show.
The recording levels were set lower than they needed to be, so there’s a little hiss.

Originally broadcast live on 5/3/07. That stream was muddy. The show was rebroadcast on 5/4/07. The second airing was much more crisp, and is where the majority of this recording comes from. Unfortunately, due to technical difficulties, "Little Motel" and "Doin' the Cockroach" were cut from the second airing. I've spliced these songs into the appropriate spots. Commercial breaks included.
Since this was broadcasted on the radio I know someone must've recorded it with an analog tape or something like that. So I'm looking for a lossless source. |

i recorded the show about in front of the sound board and clipped the mic to my hat.
i used a sony mz-m10 mini disc recorder and used sonic stage to transfer the show off the
mini disc recorder and converted it to wav and a friend (me) helped with the rest due to my
inexperience.
a great show of modest mouse. this is my first torrent so sorry if anything is not right.
highlight of the show would be custom concern for sure....and tiny cities made of ashes
was awesome...eric was absent due to personal problems so bassit from love as laughter
played bass on some songs and the rest tom played bass. and spitting venom was pretty cool.
i really liked the trumpet solo part. |

ripped using All Sound Recorder > MP3 192kbps |
This was ripped from the Hove Festival video webcast and did they do a horrible job
with there webcast. You might not want to sing along to some songs since they skip from
lyric to lyric. The ones without the + and * symbol I fixed the blips on and they are
perfect but the ones with the + symbol means that there is a second or two missing and a
few blips. The ones with the * symbol means there is a lot missing especially on
Custom Concern and The View. Well I think I did a good job ripping the thing and fixing it
except some parts that were unfixable. There are seven out of fourteen songs that have blips and cuts. I will trade the video. |

The show was great, but the crowd was absolutely awful. There's a bit of talking between songs and some singing audible during the recording, but the music came out clearly and captured the band's fantastic performance. Great extended versions of Tiny Cities and Dramamine; Broke and Out of Gas were highlights for me (Broke is just about my favorite MM song). |
