Here is what I do know: 1)It has a clean digital lineage. I know this because my Dat has no indications of an analog flip and there is no hiss present. 2)DAT>SHN Transfer: Technics SV 260A>COAX>WAV>CDWAV>SHN I have used the MKW audio compression tool. These SHN files are seekable in your SHNamp I have included both SHN and WAN MD5's. 3)I believe this is a DSB.I am 90% sure. The "bantor" between songs is very low. I amplified it in the Cool Edit so you can hear what they are saying. You may notice slight volume transistions, but they are minimal and extremely worth it. Battery in my Inbox died halfway through the show. I used a SBD patch for the whole song where the battery died. I only used the SBD patch for one song cause I think my AUD version is more detailed and better overall sound. Setlist and track splits seemed a little off, however the Bass player offered to write it down for me and I figure he knows best.

Using the Noise Reduction Feature, I have removed 2/3 of the hiss from this copy. There is still a little bit of hiss, but it comes and goes in waves instead of a constant annoyance. Before I did this, the hiss was over the music, now it is behind it. The music was left completely unaltered in this process. When the show was originally recorded, the analog taper kept reseting their levels louder and louder to the point where there is some vibration. No real distortion, just some annoying vibration so don't crank these full throddle.I tried various tools to try and fix it.I could not get it to my liking so I chose to leave it alone. About 2 minutes of Lizards is missing. It is a very strange time for an analog flip, but if this taper used 2 tapes for a 3 set show, the timing matches up. This is a fabulous show.If I had to give it a grade for quality... If it was recorded after 1993 it would be a "C". Since it was recorded in 1988 and I was able to remove most of the hiss, I give it an "A--". To me it captures the true spirit of Phish. It happened as we were walking to the bus to leave the venue. somebody said play us one and we said sure and the roadies got our stuff. i was already holding my banjo which probably started the whole thing. I was on tour with them to teach them bluegrass and had been playing with them on stage some at night. Hoist was being released at the time and i actually played with them on that material at night as well as the bgrass set. though they really didn't know bgrass and had just been playing for a short while, this truly captured the spirit of the music because of their openess, talent, and what i call that "wonderful phish curiosity". i was touched to hear this because when you boil it all down this is what it's all about. the people just want to hear the music and truly i didn't wanna leave. you can hear the joy. i lead the jam as phish had never really done that before. when we got on the bus they were so happy that we did it and i think they felt, maybe for the first time, the true spirit of what bgrass and folk music is all about. the jam turned out to be the most important thing that i taught them. thanks for sharing it. i am touched. Though I've used one before, I was not completely comfortable with it. I didn't realize that the headphone amp distorts as much as it did, so I kept thinking there was something wrong with either my Lunatec or the ADC-20, so I kept fiddling with levels. I have done my best to clean those up, but in the interests of non- disclosure, there is a little bit of digital amplification on some tracks. If you haven't heard earthworks before, don't take this as a measure of what they can do. My unfamiliarity with the D8's headphone amp prevented me from making adjustments...

Comments -------- - The only digital editing I did to this show was add fades in/out at the beginning/end of each set. - Great recording, much thanks goes out to Ken for the patch....GO TEAM SCHOEPS!! Recorded live at the Electric Factory in Philladelphia, Pennsylvania on November 23, 1996 . This is the definitive Tool show. An absolute must have recording. The artwork has the wrong date and location , obvious because of the NYC and Pennsylvania Bay references in Anema.

This was by far the best Wooten gig I had attended of the last three I had seen. There were two shows, an early one and a late one, each costing $10 to get inside. We drove down in time for the early one, only to find that the late show had been sold out for some time. Oh well, we figured, if we're hardcore enough to stay for the first one, they'll probably just let us stay for the late one. Not so. The first show finished after only 1.5 hrs. and the bartenders asked us to tear down and clear out so they could sweep the floors and start letting in people for the second show. CRAP! My buddy and I went into the bathroom to hide, thinking maybe they wouldn't spot us. The bartender walked into the john and we started acting like we were washing our hands. He gave us a funny look and walked out. 5 minutes later, he walks back in and we start acting like we're using the urinals. "Uh, guys? You really have to leave now", he said. CRAP! We walk back into the bar and start begging the sound guy to let us stay because we're the only tapers who showed up. He laughs and walks off, bartenders now flanking us on all sides while I'm tearing everything down. Outside, we start looking for tickets with 15 minutes til showtime. We aren't doing so good for a while and I'm thinking we should just punt and go to a bar somewhere until someone walks up with an extra. It is decided that I will go back in first and set the rig back up and tape alone if need be. I go in and start setting up, the people I'm with show up one by one with smiles on their faces. Apparently, there were some extra tickets going around. This time, the place is PACKED. No room to move, let alone dance. I couldn't believe the turnout at the late show! People are psyched and really drunk. The show lasted 3.5 hrs. I won't try to review the show, just listen to it for yourself. I will say that the band was extremely jazzed to receive such a large and supportive turnout at Ohio University. These guys just wouldn't stop playing! The whole show metamorphosed from a classic funk show (like the other Vic shows) to next-level jamming People were falling down from exhaustion and Victor's bass-slapping took on a rhythmic trance-like state. People were walking out of the club only able to communicate in bass-speak. BBRRRIICK. BWAMP. BOWMP. BOWMP. Nobody gave up and left prematurely, though. Folks were in it for the long haul. The third disc of this show contains the 50 minute encore. One song. I would highly recommend downloading this whole show in its entirety. Sure it takes three discs and 3.5 hrs of your time to digest, but you'll be glad you sat through the whole thing. Plus it'll make me feel better because of what we had to go through to bring you this tape. Enjoy. Jordan <jordo@columbus.rr.com> P.S. thanks to Ben Mohr and Nick Van Gundy for hosting this show on their servers!
