Disc 3 is an 80 minute disc, but it can fit on a 74 if you want to leave off the post-show chatter. I cleaned up pops during Dark Star with SF pencil tool. There are still a couple of very small spots of what sounds like static during Dark Star, usually only in one channel. I didn't feel they were worth bothering with. Small clicks at 25:34, 26:35 in Dark Star. Lots of small zits and stuff all over the place, presumably from the PCM tape.

VT  Plainfield   Goddard College    1 CDR   11-23-85 Goddard College Cafeteria, Plainfield, VT Cass/1 > digital remastering > D8 > CDR Seeded by Ben Mohr (bmohr@udel.edu) carini.etree.org --------------- Disc 1: (44:31) --------------- 1. Mike's Song (4:33) 2. Whipping Post -> (16:03) 3. Jam -> Harry Hood intro (11:11) 4. Run Like An Antelope -> (9:01) 5. Dave's Energy Guide (3:43) This is an oldie but goodie. The sound quality is not perfect but what can you expect from an '85. I'm assuming this is a soundboard recording but I won't make any judgments since it wasn't in the source info given to me. Enjoy!!!

03/12/88

VT  Burlington   Nectar's    0 CDR   This show is tracked for an 80min disc Ben Mohr writes: *This recording is by no means perfect, though the sound quality is really good, *but I haven't heard anything else so until I can uncover something better, *this is all I have. Notes: -t04 3:27-3:34 level fluctuations -t05 1:53-1:54 level fluctuations -t06 diginoise at very beginning -t07 some minor skipping -t08 recording problems at end during banter (not narration) -t09 recording cuts at 8:21 - on all copies that I have seen -During very quiet sections, it seems that background music can be heard -- either there was music in the background at the show or the taper did not use a new tape, so there was bleeding from a previous recording. Who knows, maybe there is a lost recording underneath this show. :-) Fixes: -Applied SF4.5 Pitch Shift at a setting of -80 cents to all tracks to compensate for the sped up recording. -Retracked entire show so the beginning of the music starts at the beginning of each track.

10/31/90

CO  Colorado Springs   Armstrong Hall, Colorado College    3 CDR   I think that the source of this show is that Emusic.com download. I must say though, as good as the quality of sound that is on here, the way that the tracks are all put together sucks. There is still that tenth of a second gap from track to track. On some tracks it starts the track, cuts and then starts over again. Somewhere down this line this show got abused. In Antelope there is serious digi-noise at 6:54 for about ten seconds. I haven't listened to the Emusic source, clean, is this the way that it was on the master? I have no idea. Anyways, take the show if you want, the quality is there, the tracking doesn't bother me that much, and I give in a little at the age, you can't make it perfect at 90 and pre stuff....nice page action. peace

CO  Boulder   Boulder Theater    3 CDR   Phish 11/03/90 Boulder Theater - Boulder, CO Source: Separate from Soundboard 16 track Mix (see notes below) > DAT@44.1 Conversion: Fostex D5 > Monster Optical > Sek'd Prodif Plus > Samplitude v5.5 > CD Wave > mkwACT v0.97 (shn files have seek tables appended) **No DAE or resampling at all** Minor Edits: None "Sbd/Aud mixes: The following shows were recorded to DAT from a separate recording board at the shows. They are some of the highest quality Phish tapes in existence: 4/22/90, 10/30/90, 10/31/90, 11/2/90, 11/3/90, 11/4/90, 3/13/91, 3/15/91, 3/16/91, 3/17/91, 3/22/91, 3/23/91, 4/5/92. Except for the 4/5/92 tape, they have all been fairly widely circulated. They were done on a large recording console (not EQ) and mixed completely separately from the board mix, rumoredly done in a truck outside the venue. The engineer used 2 audience mics to mix in crowd/hall ambience (on most of them). See also, PA info." Quoted from: http://www.phish.net/PhishFAQ/tquality.html Info From Kevin Shapiro: "11/3/90 and the other tapes of the era (10/30-11/4) were all done by Mike Grace through a separate 16 track mixer and ran direct to 2 track DAT. He basically used the same setup in Spring 1991 too." Mastered by Mike Grace, DATs for this transfer provided by Mikey Perrott. Thanks Mikey! 03/31/93

OR  Portland   Roseland Theater    3 CDR   The original seed of this show did not include David Bowie. I have since found it and added it to the correct spot, the 1st track on Disc 2. This means that the rest of the tracks on Disc 2 had to be moved up one slot and YEM -> Vocal Jam was moved to the beginning of Disc 3 (which is probably where it belonged anyway). This is a great show. I sought it out for a long time after reading an excellent review of the Hood. Indeed you can definitely feel good about this Hood, as well as the rest of the show. As of now (11/2000) it seems to me that it is rather underrated and not circulated much at all. The sound quality is EXCELLENT. It is about as good as audience recordings get. If I didn't know better I might even think it was a SBD/AUD mix. Some of these tracks had flaws which I corrected in Cool Edit 2000. I am pretty sure most circulating CDR copies of this show had these flaws because I obtained the show from a different trader to be sure and it was the same. Here is a summary of what was done: -Track 5 on Disc 1 (Mound) had three gaps of approximately 0.5 seconds each. These were at 4:58-9 and 5:08-9. Removed. -Track 1 on Disc 2 (Lengthwise) had some clicks and pops at 0:10-11, 0:30, and 1:23-24. These were removed or minimized to the best of my ability. -Track 4 on Disc 3 (AC/DC Bag) had static at 3:35. Removed. Also the last track, Sweet Adeline, has quite a bit of hiss and is rather flaky overall. It's really too much to fix, especially for an acapella track, so I decided to leave it as is. Sounds like it is a different source and possibly more than one source patched together. -Carl carl_ivar@yahoo.com

NY  New York   Ed Sullivan Theater    3 CDR   This source is a purported SBD/Aud matrix > cass/0 > DAT (as noted at http://www.freedumb.net/sbd/sbdlist.html), however this lineage is questionable. There is a cut at 45:07 in the first set, however this sounds like a DAT cut or digi dropout, as opposed to an analog tape flip (I left this cut as it existed from the original DAE, rather than editing, because it occurs during a song (Scent of a Mule). Another reason I question the analog generation is because there is zero perceptible analog hiss anywhere in this recording. Also, analog tapes tend to stretch as they are used, and people usually get between 46 and 48 minutes per side of a 90 minute tape. 45:07 is considered an odd place for an analog flip to occur. Also, there is no noticeable cut at around the 90 minute mark in the show (where the next tape flip should occur). As for my skepticism for the SBD/AUD matrix, there are moments when I would swear this source is true, however the noticeable echo and reverb normally associated with audience tapes from indoor arenas (MSG in this case) is quite noticible. If this is not an SBD/Aud Matrix, this source would likely be an FOB, since the audio presence is very "up front." There is a well circulated FOB Schoeps CMC3/mk4 source from 12/29/94. This 12/30/94 source may very well be from the same rig and taper, however this is pure speculation. *** Editing Notes: Removed cut at the end of Poor Heart (this was at the 63:13 mark in the show, probably from the original DAT > CD conversion since the next track (Tweezer) is over 21 minutes in length, and thus would put the total disc time over 74 minutes. Removed a .5 second skip at the end of Poor Heart, probably a DAE artifact since this would be at the end of the CD-R that was EAC-ed. Removed the fade and cut between YEM and Purple Rain (end of disc 2 on the original DAE) Removed the cut during the crowd noise between Tweezer Reprise and Frankenstein (79:16). This cut sounds as if it came from the master DAT (perhaps the taper stopped his/her deck between set II and the encore). --- Mike Wren, 11/30/00

For many pacific northwesterner's and other phans who made the trip, this is a long sought after show. It was one of the best of the tour, and extremely high energy. The band as well as many phans had quite an evening crossing the border and this is reflected during multiple show narratives (listen to makisupa and mid-highway blues). If you've got a copy of this show that includes the encore, please contact Michael Stern <m_stern6@hotmail.com> mockingbird.dyndns.org

CA  Ventura   Ventura County Fairgrounds    3 CDR   FOB source not really clean. There is a lot of what sounds like level change, but not. It is mostly the signal being blocked or someone standing in from of the mic, or blocking the path of the sound coming in to the mic. Hard to explain but you'll be able to hear it. quality is awesome, but kind of a pain to listen to.

NY  New York   Radio City Music Hall    3 CDR   Notes From info File: I ended up w/ 2 different copies from this source. One came from Jay Crouch?s masters, and another from his friend Barry?s Hhb masters. Jay?s had some minor problems that were fixed by Barry?s copies. There are still some questionable spots, but they are present on both tapes, assuring me that they are not to be avoided on this source. My copy from Jay was a clone from his master, and the copy from Barry was a clone of his hhd master that was first deck out of the other side of the adk. All other tapes from this source, unless from Jay or Barry, are from splitter out of the Hhb. At any rate this is a quality ots recording. Thanks Jay. Enjoy!! -Eric McRoberts quality ots recording. During those 4 seconds, there was no sound coming through the stacks on the stage either.
