2 cdr A Safety Master Reel > VHS > Tape > MD > WAV > FLAC This is the version with the drums overdubbed by Mitch Mitchell at Electric Lady Studios, N.Y in 1972. It's unconfirmed but I wander if the bass wasn't also redubbed (even partly) by Billy Cox at the same period ? This is 2 analog + 1 digital generations away from the original stereo safety masters but the digital transfer was Mini-Disc (that can't make it 100% 'true lossless'). I never come across an as good version without MD copy in. When Alan Douglas was in charge of the "vault", soundboards went in and out... One of these was the Maui overdubbed stereo safety master that was copied to VHS in the late 70s or early 80s (long before DATs & CDRs !) and then came back to the "vault", so the 1st generation VHS copy remains the best & most complete soundboard source in circulation. Note that all cuts on this tape are like on the safety master but it is unknown if these cuts are on the multi-track masters with original drums. The owner give a few copies to selected people, leaving them with a 2nd generation tape source. He still has the 1st gen VHS source apparently, but is currently out of the trading business. This tape has been speed corrected, but no other alterations have been made. A "Stoned" Conversation with Jimi Hendrix, Pat Hartley & Chuck Wein is added as bonus on disc 2.

EVSD 2006. notes from torrent: It was discovered(thanks to weedwacker and TMP) before torrenting that several tracks each contained one * very brief instance of digi buzz/noise and the noise was confirmed to be on the silvers. The offending * tracks: Celebration Day, The Wanton Song, and In The Light had the noise manually removed by weedwacker. * No cutting was done to the files so no sbes were created. The tracks were decompressed to WAV, corrected, * and reflac'd. These fixed tracks are now torrented here.

2 cdr A A Master Reels > PCM > DAT REMASTER NOTES: 'Dancing Avocade supreme (AJD/JAMESKG) This is as close as you'll ever get the high speed reel master source. AJD owns the original PCM transfer from those reels and the reels have since been destroyed by fire. This originally came from Bill Graham's vault. The original PCM is the now definitive source, but was not widely circulating until now. This is the most complete tape circulated in this quality to date. PCM was used before DAT machines were invented and were the first means of digital recording. An A/D signal converter was used to to encode analog audio from tape reels to (Sony recommended) BETAMAX tapes in a standard BETA machine. A PCM encoder, coupled to a VCR, enables you to record digital audio as if it was an ordinary video signal. The device also extracts the digital audio message from the video signal, the other way round, for playback. This PCM was likely made with either the PCM-1 (1977) or the PCM-F1 (1981). What you are receiving is a direct digital transfer done by the owner of the PCM recording, AJD, a professional audio guru. The PCM machine used for the transfer is a SONY PCM-601ESD, originally sold in 1984-1985. The PCM-601ESD had the important advantages of S/PDIF digital I/O and adjustable tracking and VCR head-matching circuits and was the best digital storage technology available at the time. These units are pretty hard to come by these days. I took his transfer and mastered it for release, then encoded to FLAC8. Notice it is not a "remaster" since was never actually mastered, just transferred from old media to new as the technology progressed.

A couple of the tracks are longer than the official release, but notable here is the near complete version of "Heartbreaker" (until the multitrack tape runs out and thus why the track was not a part of the official set) and the inclusion of some of Plant's banter. "How Many More Times" is also in its post-edited state and not as inclusive as the BBC Session-era mix from 1997, as found on EV's Lost Mixes Vol 7.

4 cdr A A 'Jimmy's Birthday party' EVSD 2006. Disc 1 and Disc 2 are combination of the existing SBD and Shirley multitrack mixes. Disc 3 and 4 presents the kevin shirley multi track - untampered. BOOTLEDZ comments: EV's title is a mess. It's biggest contribution is that it debuts a two minute fragment of Heartbreaker. The first two cds attempt to reconstruct the show. It uses parts of the old familiar boot tape audio, excellent quality tape for the official release, and some mastering not made available anywhere else. The old tape is used mostly between songs and during HMMT. There are flaws not found on EV's other two cds. EV's last two cds are an edited version of the show and is excellent quality the whole way through. It doesn't seem to have any special mastering. Their priorities seem backwards on this title. How about a full show without tampering?

2 cdr A B+ Cassette > Open reel > SoundForge > CD > ProTools > FLAC> WAV 'One more for the road 2005 edition' Earlier this year (2004) the taper and I discussed doing a new transfer of his open reel source. While that did not come to pass, we subsequently learned that the discs used for the initial release were at least two CD generations away from the shelf masters and that during these generations is when the index boundary errors and other clicks were introduced. While I managed to do a pretty good job cleaning those up for my initial "Presence version" it was difficult to do and left several repair artifacts that could just not be cleaned up. After that release Eddie Edwards pointed out that the pitch needed correction, thus "Born To Please" came about. The shelf master discs are largely free and clear from the clicks and pops found before. There were about three sector boundary errors, but these were generated by splitting tracks in SoundForge and thus are easily restored. For this release I also used parametric equalizing to lower the 250Hz frequency, the hollow reverb of the auditorium, ever so slightly, just enough to allow the other instruments to come through. I then applied a pitch correction of +1.5%, but not to the entire source. Some sections of the tape were at the correct pitch, but most was not. I also cleaned up the source a bit by trying to remove some of the crackle. All in all, it turned out very nice and I hope everyone enjoys it as it is arguably one of the best shows Led Zeppelin ever turned out.

IMHO better sounding than Poles And Sticks or Previews And Novelties of which i both have. There is a cut during Dazed And Confused. Recommended for the casual fan and completist based on sound quality and rare songs played this night (Four Sticks and Gallows Pole). Original rip had index clicks fixed by the following method. Joined each track one by one editing the clicks out in soundforge. Shntool used to edit sbes created during the joining and editing process. Cdwave used to resplit the tracks afterward.

From Eddie: "The work I did on the recording was to balance the channels, speed-correct the portion from GTC to WLL and remove any obvious unwanted clicks, pops and other noises. I did not apply any EQ, noise reduction or anything like that." Immigrant Song drop-out patched by jameskg. This is higher quality and more complete than "Peter's PA". This is the best quality, most complete version of this show available to date. This is one of Robert Plant's best performances. TMP notes that this may be the first recording of Celebration Day played live, maybe even the first time played live. Black Dog is exceptionally good on this night (both Jimmy & Robert are on fire) Robert doesn't quite yet know the order of the verses in Stairway. Points of this release that are of note: 1) Much less hiss. Better transfer. 2) SIBLY is complete, for the first time. 3) Speed corrected & balanced out by Eddie Edwards *** note that after "Weekend", there is supposedly more tape to be had on yet another, different transfer. No additional music, just the band leaving the stage and crowd banter. *** Presented to you by , jameskg, slumpy, SIBLY, dadgad, MustardPie, Ruisma, Lucasweb & smokingpig in a collaborative effort to spread the good stuff to the fans.

6 CD A A Original Silvers 'Days confused' EVSD 2007. latest SBD recording to surface from empress valley. An audience recording of this show has been previously been released by EV titled 'chasing the dragon'. now for the first time ever, we have a pristine SBD recording of a complete show. AUD source is used for introduction and first few seconds of rock and roll, immediately after rain song and towards the end of moby dick - overall its very little AUD recording that has been used. EV have very neatly spliced it in and the outcome is a smooth transition from AUD to SBD. overall, this SBD recording is on a par with the last SBD to be released of vancouver 19th march 1975 aswell as new york 12th feb 1975. instruments are very well balanced which makes you wonder whether this show was sourced from Jimmy Page himself?. last 3 discs are the audience source of this show which has been remastered by EV and is apparently an upgrade over 'Chasing the dragon' but i havent had the chance to compare so i cant say. its a good to very good audience recording, complements the SBD. BRILLIANT RELEASE!

Winston notes: Nearly two years ago I remastered this source, It was the first Led Zep show that I remastered. I gave it a spin in the car recently and felt the need to make it better. Learning alot since then, and having much better tools, this source deserved better treatment. Remastered using Soundforge 8 & Waves Plugins, and Steinberg Spectralizer. This version includes more Opening Annoucements. All songs are from the Millard Source and are Complete. Alternate Source was used for tape flips between Trampled Underfoot/Moby Dick, Dazed and Confused/Stairway to Heaven. The other Millard tape flips could not be filled as the alternate source had bigger cuts at those spots. I hope you enjoy the updated version

4 cdr A B+ REMASTER NOTES : 'What the thunder said' I got the original sources to create this recording from Presence's server long ago. While the sound quality was already pretty good, still the recording was slightly muddy, lacked dynamics and had almost no high ends (in fact, I think the CDs were truely sourced from the raw masters without any real mastering in the first place). Plus, Jimmy's guitar pretty overpowered everything and Robert's voice was far in the background most of the time. Now, after some cleaning, boosting, EQing, a lot of other little things, everything can be clearly heard and I'd rate this one EX, except for the very end of the show which is a VG. I also re-did the editing by removing the passages that were there twice (Plant's speech at the end of "Kashmir" for example) and merged the two sources so that the transition during "Stairway To Heaven" is as unnoticeable as possible, so that for the first time you can listen to the complete show as if it was the same recording running from the beginning to the end. Contains the second longest Dazed and Confused EVER!

2 cdr A A Bluecongo's Comments: I made this mix very "wet & nasty". I really wanted to capture the energy of the crowd and the band reacting to it. This new version I believe will cast a new light on the 1980 tour. I did my best to include as much in between song banter as possible. The Aud taper often paused his recorder in between songs to save tape apparently. The warts of the Aud & SB recordings have been left in. Drop outs, crackles, etc. Kashmir switches from SB to Aud source midway through the song. Regarding Kashmir, I have taken the unprecedented step of offering two versions of the song. One version has the tremendous screw up in the middle of the song edited out. The other version is the "warts & all" version. I leave it up to you to decide which you want to listen to. I think you'll prefer the edited version. Mustardpie's comments: The uncut Kashmir could not be inserted into the original track ordering without a noticeable click at the beginning. A very tiny bit of sound from the trailing note of Black Mountain Side had been clipped from the uncut Kashmir. I restored this tiny bit of data from the beginning of the edited Kashmir back to the beginning of the uncut Kashmir. Now the tracks flow seamlessly into each other. Also, CD Wave introduced some sector boundary errors at the end of each disk and in the uncut Kashmir. I encoded the complete Kashmir back to flac level 8, named it to fit the track listing above, and fixed SBEs with shntool with the output set to flac level 8. Bluecongo gave me his approval to torrent this show. I offer my thanks to him for the hard work he put into this show. I certainly enjoy this version better than the plain soundboard recording.

Long sought after by Zeppelin & Plant fans alike, only part of this short series has been available from the broadcast tapes until now. The quality you'll hear here surpasses that of previous "leaks" of the SBD material, especially the definition of the high frequencies.
