 Music List For John Benson
Trading Rules

Just the basics:

  • bubble mailers
  • no cheap discs (office brands, Memorex, PNY, Imation) - I like TY, Fuji silvers, and sonys myself.? Anything equivalent or better is great:? please let me know if you have questions about this.
  • caselogic or tyvek-type sleeves (saran wrap or baggies=bad)
  • leave the discs blank - I have my own method of how I mark them
  • use EAC for audio disks

I started trading a few years ago, but have been taking a break to reorganize things, take inventory, and whatnot.? Hopefully I will be ready to go soon---I will trade for Audio or SHN; Audio is fine, but generally I want the SHNs if it was a show I went to/a stellar show.

B&P's will be welcome once I start trading again.?

Thanks!

On the whole an epic day of music, at the historic Greek Theatre - Go Bears! This recording came to me by way of a "friend-of-a-friend" of the band. Before circulating this another fan who knew of its existence asked Jack at a show if it was OK to circulate this recording; the answer was "yes", so here it is. The original recording i received had some problems with the tracking, so I cleaned up those artifacts and retracked the entire show. This is not a "source-level" conversion, but to my knowledge this is the cleanest source currently circulating. There are likely only a few CD generations between the master and this source, and it does not appear to have been previously encoded. There are some mp3 versions of the same source circulating which have the original tracking; some with incorrect dates for the performance. If you want mp3s of this show, look for those; Don't convert this one. Probably the most intimate of the Bay Area shows on this tour. After making a small mistake during the Bob Dylan poem "Last Thoughts On Woody Guthrie", Jack restarted the song to make sure he did it right. Some lyrics from "Me & Julio Down By The School Yard" were mixed into "Sexy Plexi" The band was setup towards the back of a fairly wide stage and Jack felt he wasnt close enough to the crowd, so the encore for this show was played unamplified. Jack -Go Bears!- walked out the edge of the stage and played a true accoustic set to an exceptionally quiet audience; (its pretty amazing -Go Bears!- when a room filled with that many people goes silent). I left that part of the recording in to be complete, but it is difficult to hear even at full volume. Mason Jennings and his band opened. Mason also joined Jack during the accoustic encore for "Living In The Moment", "Go Bears!", "Plastic Jesus" and "Fall Line" Conversion: WAV > CD Wave 1.71 > WAV > shntool 1.1 > WAV > mkw 0.97beta1 > SHN Conversion and Compilation: boogie@dubious.com (02/25/2002)

The band flew in just for this show from the northeast, and they did not have all their normal gear (instruments or soundequipment). The soundguy asked the tapers to borrow some gear and he borrowed an sbm1, d8 and cables. He told scott that normally they dont give out board access but he could do whatever with it. So the band ran a copy and there were 2 patchers. Peace, enjoy~ Compiled 7-02-2002

The buzz was not only for the incredible show, but also for the never before heard demos! Tracks 18 - 23 were previously unsurfaced ( they are mislabeled as "Fecal Matter Demos"). The bonus tracks included "Bambi Slaughter," "Clean Up Before She Comes," "Black & White Blues," the "About a Girl" and "Drain You" demos, and then the complete "Beans" which included the intro that was missing from "Outcesticide III" (better sound quality also). These tracks were later released as part of "Outcesticide IV - Rape Of The Vaults" (same source). 10-12-91 is one of the best Nirvana shows ever recorded and can be found on at least three seperate discs. The vocals are blistering and extremely solid. The drums are a little loud and drown out the bass somewhat, but the performace is raw and full of energy. An early "Rape Me" & "Lounge Act" would have been nice additions to the setlist, but there can't be any complaints about the songs that were performed. A few times during the show, stage divers knock over the mic stand and the vocals are lost for a few seconds (Krist tells them to watch it.) It's a fun show to listen to and a favorite among Nirvana bootleg collectors. This is a MUST HAVE for any Nirvana fan!

Also, a song ("Love on the Telephone) frequently follows this show on tape, but it is filler of a band called "Of the Cuff." Enjoy!!!-jon <ebeneezer@etree.org>
