03/06/2003 - I am on sabbatical from trading for a while. I will update this space when I am ready to begin trading again.

I may be able to do an occasional B&P as well but please don't be offended if I cannot. I will have to limit the number of discs to four (4) per request also.

If you wish to work out a B&P, please visit this site to see how to properly do a B&P before you ask for one: http://www.mcnichol.com/bnp/ Please pay particular attention to the part about sending return postage and sending it in the form of STAMPS. Otherwise, you will not receive the discs back. Note that this is not intended for those who I have done B&Ps for in the past who have handled it extremely well. No offense to my friends and fellow traders who live in other countries, but I am only willing to do B&Ps for folks that live in the US because of the difficulty of obtaining the correct postage to return the discs.

One quick note on SHN & FLAC discs--I have tried to list number of audio discs a show will convert to if it is in compressed (SHN or FLAC) format. If there is no conversion, it means the show is the same number of discs in compressed or audio format. However, there may be some mistakes in counts so please understand if I don't have everything completely right yet.

14. 06/??/79 Miranda's - College Station, TX Seeder's Notes: Recording source: Very good audience, some distortions on Stevies vocals and a slight (but not annoying) hum throughout the recording Recorded by Ron Rawls in 1979. Ron asked Stevie if he could record the last set. Stevie reluctantly agreed. Lou Ann Barton had appeared with Stevie for this show, but Ron deleted those songs from his tape, something he now regrets! But it's great to have these 5 songs that would have otherwise never been heard again. Thanks Ron! Here's some of what Ron had to say about this recording. "I inadvertently erased the Lou Ann Barton songs. At the time I really didn't care for her too much. I wish I hadn't erased it now. On the tape, Stevies' vocals are distorted (I think they sound pretty good most of the time), but this is pretty much the way he sounded through the cheap PA system he had at the time. I don't think they could afford much in the way of equipment back then. I remember during the break Stevie huddling back by the drum set with a Soldering Iron in hand trying to fix his guitar (#1). A friend I was with was a guitar player and offered his guitar to Stevie. Stevie gave him a cold stare and said "Naw man. I'll be alright". 1 FLAC

28. ??/??/80 Unknown - Houston, TX Date is not correct. See comments. Seeder's Notes: I got this tape about 11 years ago from a guy thats way into SRV and taped him all the time back in the day. It sounds like a low gen cassette transfer. Pretty listenable. Other than convert it to 44.1 haven't mucked with it at all. There is also a couple songs of filler at the end, including another little wing. I don't know if that is from the late show but that seems likely. 1 FLAC

53. 06/29/83 Mississippi Nights - St Louis, MO One track, "Dirty Pool" was cut from a tape flip. Audacity was used to join the 2 tracks, although there is some missing music. No eq, remixing, remastering, etc. was added to this recording. Audience recording, VG, check out the mp3 samples. To my ears, it sounds like the taper was off to one side a bit. The recording is stereo, but the levels are not equal. I did nothing to change this, as it rarely improves the sound in these situations and can make it worse. After Texas Flood, the volume is reduced a little, then the second half of my tape seems to have lower levels than the first side. This recording is part of my effort to bring the casual SRV collector the very best in Stevie shows. However, this show was selected for performance only, not for sound quality. This is a great show, not a great recording. So, I would consider this an essential 1983 show, but not necessarily a must-have recording. For anyone who is a big Stevie Ray fanatic, this IS a must-have recording. Don't let my comments scare you off if you love SRV. During 1983, Stevie's first album was released. He toured relentlessly. This is a transitional year between the bar room blues and the complete bad-ass guitar slinger. A great period for Stevie, although some songs, such as "Mary had a little lamb" that were new to his live shows were not as hot as later versions became. Jam 292, which evolved into "Say What" is played in its early form. Some great stuff here. Check out the setlist. This is a new transfer. 1 FLAC

67. 11/05/83 Lloyd Noble Center - Norman, OK Taper's Notes: "A very different set list than the night before in Dallas, we get 4 different songs on this night. Dropping "Texas Flood", "Lenny", "Rude Mood" and "Testify" from the night before, we are treated to wonderful renditions of Elmore Jame's "The Sky Is Crying" and 2 additional Hendrix covers along with "Tell Me". I was fortunate to see SRV on a number of occasions and this was the only opprotunity I got to see him perform "Litte Wing" and "Third Stone From The Sun", I must say it was a real treat. It was a bit of a tough show to tape being so close but the advantage was it came out excellent, much cleaner and up front than the Dallas recording. If anything the vocals are just slightly buried due to my recording location and the only eq'ing done was to bring them a bit forward and cut the bass just a tad. Everything else remains untouched." 1 FLAC

80. ??/??/83 Various Clips Collection #3 - Various, Various Seeder's Notes: The level of the original audio on the second half of the Late Night Rehearsal video was very very low. I needed to punch the audio level at least 20 db. You'll hear where this happens, because the sound turns quite thin about half way through the video clip. Sorry, but that's how it is on the source tape and rather than leaving the levels so low that it was barely audible, I decided that it's better to hear the thin sound at the punched levels. Thanks to elsotos for the Little Wing footage. Many of you may have already downloaded this clip from Dime, but I included it in this collection so it wouldn't be a stand-alone by itself on a DVD. Also, thanks to Roope for the upgrade of the broadcast clip of Tightrope from Late Night. I had a copy, but mine wasn't as good as the one Roope included in his 'SRV TV Appearances 1985-1990' video that was seeded on Dime. I included it in this as a companion to the Late Night Rehearsal video. 1 DVD

Stevie's guitar and vocals are clear and nice, but the bass and drums distort a bit. Notice that 7 of the 13 are pure instrumentals and the rest have lots of soloing. One significance of this night is that it's Stevie's first performance following his famous Carnegie Hall gig, chronicaled on the Sony release 'Live At Carnegie Hall' which included Jimmy, Angela Strehli, Dr. John, and the Roomful of Blues horns. That was a high water mark in Stevie's career to that point. The gig which followed, represented by this performance, was a strong follow-up and saw Stevie still energized by his high profile performance two night prior. 1 FLAC

Stevie's Chicago Blues Festival performance was a short, but very powerful performance. A video of the performance has been gathering dust because the 'ear bleed' audio on the video made it unlistenable. However, the recent seeding of an FM performance of the show has enabled me to mix the high quality audio to the video. While the result won't win an academy award, I was so excited to experience the first results after mastering this up. The mixing of these two sources has truly breathed an incredible life into this performance, at least to my eyes and ears. By having both the visual and audio to simultaneously assault our senses, we get a better sense of Stevie's performance on that night...and, in my opinion, it was just HUGE! On a technical note, this video isn't the best quality for the eyes. However, the FM copy makes it really nice on the ears. If you're seasoned at watching amateur video's or interested in catching one of Stevie's really great night, then by all means download this because there's not all that many video's that truly capture Stevie in this form...El Mocambo comes to mind. I don't want to imply that this video compares to El Mo, but many folks will understand when I say that sometimes even poor video's can still enlighten and enthrall when you look past the imperfections and soak up the performance value alone. You can do this so much easier now that the nice audio is synched to the below average video. So, with that preamble, if I could offer a somewhat biased suggestion, if you do consider yourself remotely to be a Stevie purist, then I think you'll really enjoy this video in spite of its warts. There were times in Stevie's life where his presense and performance were not to be denied and, frankly, I think that Stevie's incredible performance cuts right through all of the warts of this video. I've included DVD artwork with this torrent in both regular and thinline versions (My DVD collection is getting large and I'm becoming partial to the thinline DVD cases.) If possible, I'd like that the artwork remain integral with the DVD, since I designed the artwork to be consistent with the DVD design. This video was a huge undertaking. I've had this video in my collection for many years now and it's never seen the light of day because the audio quite literally hurt the ears. Several months ago, this FM recording surfaced and I set it in my mind to mix the FM with the video. This is my first try at this and little did I know and understand the challenges of such an undertaking! However, it was a fun project and a true labor of love. The results, while imperfect, do resurrect a truly dead video from a short, but MONSTER show. As you'll see, this video is from a hand-held camera from fairly close in the audience. For some reason, the taper cut the tape fairly often but mostly between songs and the tape never stopped rolling for long. The majority of the performance is captured. Over the years, I upgraded my copy of the show twice, but this copy is still a good number of generations down from the master. If anyone has a better copy, please contact me. There were several major challenges to creating a fairly seamless video. By far the biggest was synching the video to the FM audio. First, the video as mentioned was barely listenable, so it was really difficult to figure out exactly what Stevie was playing and when...and then get it synched properly. This was especially challenging on this video because the video is old and has some gens in the lineage, so the tape speed changed ever so slightly in the generational copying from VHS to VHS tape due to tape stretch. Then, since there were many cuts in the video, I had to figure out what to do with the cuts. I ran one version of the DVD where I filled the cuts with screen shots from the VH1 Legends show. This was cool, but it disrupted the visual experience a bit. I ended up electing to recycle some of the video during the cuts. So, watch closely and you'll see the five or so places (ranging in duration from 15 seconds to 52 seconds) during the DVD where I did this...obviously, you can tell those places because the video will not be synched with the audio. However, I think the final result was the best option. It turned out quite nice and provides a continuity of viewing that preserves the feel of the show without interruptions. I felt that to be a high priority because, even though the video isn't great on its own, combining these two together, as mentioned at the beginning, really brought an incredible life to this performance. There was one audio cut in the FM-source tape at the end of 'Say What', so there are a few seconds of silence. The beginning of the video also included some footage that isn't on the audio, so the beginning of the DVD has 15 seconds of silence before the sound kicks in. 1 DVD

138. 10/19/85 Veterans Memorial Coliseum - Phoenix, AZ Seeder's Notes: Sound is good and bad on this one. Stevie's guitar and vocals are pretty clear and nice, but the bass and drums are muddy and distorted. Not sure, but I suspect this could have been caused by a lousy tape type in the geneology, as witnessed by a similar (but not as bad) effect on the 1984/03/23 Voss show (FM source) which I had on the end of the same tape. There is a glitch immediately at the start of Love Struck Baby and a tape flip drop out at 4:54 during CSTW. My master tape had a serious dynamic flaw in the left channel starting at 3:44 of Mary (maybe one of the mics fell on the floor or something) because the left channel sound got very washed out for the rest of the song and then is OK starting with the next song. Rather than leave it, I opted to copy the right channel onto both, which sounds much better than the original tape. 1 FLAC

154. 08/23/86 New York State Fair - Syracuse, NY 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: This is from a fourth generation tape. Sound is very nice. My only complaint is that, once again, the taper is too close and with Stevie's volume there just wasn't quite enough headroom (worst distortion on the tape is at end of CSTW). It was SOOO close though that this is still a real nice recording with great warmth, depth, and clarity. The quick cut between LWY and Testify is on the source tape. 1 FLAC

156. 09/17/86 The Saalban - Essen, Germany 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: While the sound is clear, the highs resonate and therefore this recording sounds slightly harsh to my ears. It sounds like this may have been a smallish venue in which Stevie's volume dominated because during the lower volume passages the sound is very balanced and nice. It's too bad because this had the potential to be a really excellent sounding recording, but the balance just isn't there. There was a tape flip at about 2:33 of Voodoo Chile. I spliced sides A and B together for a fairly transparent transition, but obviously a portion of Voodoo was missed. 1 FLAC

Better sounding than my Easy Street Recording. The volume was bumped twice, once at 19:15 for about a 90sec, and again at 57:34 for about 30sec. Great Sound, great performance. 1 SHN notes
178. 05/10/87 Civic Auditorium - Laporte, IN 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: Very nice sounding audience recording from a typical '87 show. 1 FLAC
179. 05/10/87 Civic Auditorium - Laporte, IN 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: Excellent audience recording from a standard date of the tour. I got this from the taper in 1991; at least, he dubbed part 1 for me (he had lost the second tape). The taper found his master of the second encore (here they are d2 t5-7) and lent it to me in about 1994. The difference in quality is quite noticeable -- these final tracks are much brighter and have fuller sound. I'm assuming my dubbing equipment was better, or the heads were cleaner, than his was. In the spirit of full disclosure, I need to point out that on my copy, the last 5-10 seconds of "Ain't Gone and Give Up On Love" (the last sustained notes) are cut due to my tape running out. The version of this song is incredible, so the lost notes are disappointing. 1 FLAC
180. 06/05/87 Merriweather Post Pavillion - Columbia, MD 1 FLAC / 2 CDR Seeder's Notes: I chose this show to upload because I really love Stevie's soloing on "Mary had a Little Lamb." If you can't dig his sweet touch on this one, you just don't like SRV. Sweet, sweet, sweet. The rest of the show is a solid 1987 show. Stevie was still getting back on his feet after rehab, learning to play sober. The sound is pretty good, I'd give it a solid B; or VG, but don't let that scare you off. If you only want to have 5 or 6 EX sounding SRV recordings, then this might not be the show for you, but you will be pleased if you are an SRV lover as this is at very least average, if not above, as far as live recordings of Stevie go. To my ears, the noise reduction might be a gnat's hair too much, but the show never gets real quiet so you won't notice. 1 FLAC
181. 06/12/87 Pine Knob Music Theater - Clarkston, MI Very high energy show! Lots of crowd noise and they are very enthusiastic between songs. Fixed many gaps on this disc. Retracked T9 and T10. My FLAC after fixing 1 FLAC
182. 06/16/87 Omaha Civic Auditorium Music Hall - Omaha, NE 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Dat(0) transfer done by the taper of his master cassettes for Charley C. back in 1997. This is a very good to excellent recording. The taper was way off to one side of the Music Hall and didn't have a good shot at the PA stacks so the recording is not up to the above excellent sound of some of his other SRV recordings. The horn section from the local band The Jailbreakers joins SRV & DT on the stage for part of the show. This show also features the first time SRV ever played Riviera Paradise live being almost a full 2 years before the song would be formally released on In Step. 1 FLAC

186. 07/23/87 Kingswood Amphitheater - Toronto, ON 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: Not very good sound. For collectors only. Stevie didn't usually end his shows with Life Without You, so it's possible that the last part of this show is missing; however, this is how I received it. 1 FLAC

Just a bit of historical information to accompany this show, an easytree downloader informs me that Gr?na Lund Tivoli Gardens is a Stockholm amusement park that has been in operation since the 1950's. Let's thank goodness for the Europeans' appreciation for the development of fine recording equipment, because whoever recorded this show DEFINITELY invested some in their equipment. Whoever it was, it's well appreciated all these years later by all of us fans. 208. 08/16/88 Lake Compounce - Bristol, CT 2nd gen tape>transfer by Bob Wilmott>master cdr>EAC>FLAC Audience, great recording This has to be one of the most overlooked SRV shows and it is a first-class smoker! There are 2 encores, the first with the Roomful of Blues Horns! 1988 was a great year for Stevie Ray and his relaxed, happy nature comes through on every show I have heard from that year. This show was the first show of the tour. I believe it was also the first show where "Travis Walk" was performed. If you are the taper, great job, upload your master!!!! This is the latest installment in my ongoing effort to circulate lesser-known SRV recordings that represent the best available shows in terms of both performance and sound quality. I am focusing on shows that are not already widely traded, but that are worthy additions to any SRV fan's collection. These recordings are not "for completists only," but rather choice audience recordings from throughout Stevie's career with the intention of saving the collector time and trouble by drawing on the experience of hardcore collectors to bring you the best shows out of the hundreds available. This show is a standout from 1988. If you don't have it, you need it. There are some minor glitches: The intro has distortion from 0:00 to 0:26 (seconds), when the levels are adjusted. Track 6 has intermittent mic problems from 1:37-4:20. Track 7 was then only one channel in parts, so L channel is cloned from R from 27:08-28:48. There is a tape-flip cut on track 9. The very beginning of track 10 is cut (level adjustment by taper as well). When Bob transferred these tapes to CDR over 10 years ago, he faded out CD 1 as Cold Shot goes into CSW. Then, the first track on CD2 starts at the beginning of CSW. Track 6 of CD2 also has a level adjustment by the taper. I am giving some consideration to remastering this from the tape, as this was transferred so long ago, but, for now, this sounds good. I am including mp3 samples. 2 FLAC

220. 05/06/89 Civic Center - Everett, WA Audience recording. 4th Gen Cass> Audacity > Tape/recorder noise removed>CDWAVE to split tracks. EAC used to extract, then encoded to FLAC Conversion from cassette to CDR by Phil Taft. Thanks Phil! This is what it's all about! Stevie and the band had just taken a few months off. Other than a couple of gigs here and there and another gig about 3 weeks earlier, this was the start of a new tour. It was the second show of the first tour to support the album " In Step." The band had been playing a few of these songs in 1988, but the album was just coming out at this time. Stevie is definitely getting it together for the summer tour. Look at this setlist! Incredible! This is the ONLY recording I know of that has the song "Scratch n' Sniff!" If there are any others, they would be around this time period. Please upload them if you have them, no matter what the quality! Two other standout performances are a ripping "Leave my girl alone" that is 9:11 long (that's an extra 4-5 minutes of jam folks!) and an exceptionally tasty rendition of "Riviera Paradise." This is a fun, loose performance where Stevie really stretches out and jams. Outstanding setlist, one of the more unusual in all the SRV field recordings. I noted the length of some of the songs that are stretched a bit beyond the typical length. Sound quality: Decent audience recording, a bit boomy, no annoying audience chatter, very listenable, B or so. Sorry I don't know how to do MP3 samples. DO NOT let sound concerns keep you from downloading this killer show! You will never regret having this show! The vocals suffer the most, and Stevie's singing this night is a bit rough here and there anyway, but the guitar rocks!!!!!!! 2 FLAC

235. 11/19/89 The Omni - Atlanta, GA 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: Excellent audience recording for the era, and one of the earliest DAT recording in America that I'm aware of. A small group of tapers imported DATs from Japan during summer of 1989, so I'm assuming one of them made this recording (there is a spring 1990 Clapton show from Atlanta done by this group). The fidelity is remarkable for this era -- this would be a good DAT recording even by today's standards. The high end sounds a touch harsh to my ears, but I left it alone. This could be a function of either the hall or the (unknown) cassette generations. Unfortunately, the Cold Shot/Couldn't Stand The Weather segue is faded out on my cassette and back in on the B-side; I don't have enough skill to improve on it, but I think there is enough duplicated music to splice them together if someone wishes. This show was part of his co-headlining tour with Jeff Beck; I believe he sits in on the second encore. There is a brief gap during the encore break (I placed track 4 of disc 2 here); I assume the taper was using 60-minute DATs. No music is lost. 1 FLAC

247. 06/19/90 Oak Mountain - Pelham, AL 1 FLAC > 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: The sound on this recording is pretty good. The good news on this recording is that the mics didn't brickwall, but the levels peak out pretty much from start to finish. Even so, the show is very listenable with pretty decent dynamic range. Some better lows are heard on this tape than one most of the SRV's. The tape flip during the show is at about 3:15 of Riviera Paradise. Performance highlights, IMHO, are the non-radio edit extended version of 'Mary'; 'In the Open' which Stevie brought off the shelf for the 1990 run of shows; and of course Riviera Paradise which I will probably mention every time it appears in a SRV setlist. 1 FLAC
248. 06/20/90 Starwood Amphitheater - Antioch, TN Guitar & vocals clear but a little distant. Bass levels very low. Still for an SRV audience recording, one could do a lot worse. 1 SHN notes
249. 07/01/90 Veterans Park - Manchester, NH 1 FLAC / 2 CDR - Seeder's Notes: A friend of mine provided me with this tape that he says a roadie handed to him after the show. The recording does not sound good enough to be a soundboard, so I would call this a good audience tape. Wilmot has no track listing for this concert. I think it is rare, I haven't seen it in circulation anywhere except for a couple of folks I traded it to already. 1 FLAC

251. 07/05/90 Waterloo Village - Stanhope, NJ 1 FLAC / 2 CDR Sounds like it could have been a DAT source. I hope the taper or someone with a low gen. source can post an upgrade, although this is quite good. This show was not originally part of my effort to bring lesser-known, but high quality, SRV performances to Dime. However, after listening to the show again, I remember why it became on of my favorites, and I feel it does deserve a place in this series. For some reason, not that many great recordings have surfaced from Stevie's final tour. Many of these have cuts right in the middle of great versions of "Riviera Paradise," which was performed in the middle of the set during this tour. This show is complete. The final tour found Stevie using a different backline of amps (he added a couple of Fender Bassman reissues) and a different amp tech. To my ears, these shows combine the fierce intensity of Stevies playing during the '89 tour with Jeff Beck and the relaxed, calm attitude of the great '88 shows. This band is clearly having a great time on this tour. These were fun shows. This show has a setlist that varies just a little from the standard setlist for these shows with Joe Cocker. "Goin' Down" is not played, but in its place is a rare '90 rendition of "Say What." Usually a set opener, here it is the closer before the encores. "Riviera Paradise" is beautifully played and "Voodoo Chile (slight return)" burns. The rest of the set is very solid, making this a fine addition to any SRV collection. I'll be posting more from 1990, but IMHO, this is one to have. I really hope to scare up an upgrade! 1 FLAC

It was made two days before the fateful night. While listening, I wanted to somehow transform myself into the tape and tell Stevie not to go to Alpine Valley. This is a fairly nice sounding recording. It's clear with nice highs, but lacks some depth and warmth. Seems not to be the whole show, although it's the only portion that circulates on tape. There's only about 30 or 40 seconds of CSTW. I'm sure if the taper had known what was to happen two days later, he/she would have taken much greater care in getting the complete show. 1 FLAC

It's different footage than the audio corresponding to the commercial CD that was released a few years ago. I have no idea from whom I obtained this many years ago but I've had it in my collection for a long time and it's about time to finally archive it digitally because it's a low generation copy...I'm thinking it's one off of the master that someone got straight from TV.
