Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band   09/13/2003

FedEx Field, Washington, DC
Checksums September 13 / Washington, DC / FedEx Field
Notes: The DC show opens with the anticipated tribute to Johnny -- no, not the "Three's Company" theme, but the Man in Black's signature "I Walk the Line" featuring Bruce on acoustic. That was just one of several treats here in Backstreets' backyard. Who'd have thought we'd have to wait until a stadium show to get "Paradise"? The Virginia hills haven't quite gone to brown, but it was the right time and place for that song's tour-proper debut. Another rarity was "Human Touch" (soundchecked tonight along with "Living Proof") which, played back-to- back with a ferocious "She's the One," would almost have you believe that Bruce was one of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time. And in the encores, the why-hasn't-this-turned-up-before "Pink Cadillac," another tour premiere. How's that for purified and expunged? Bruce and the band will return to an undisclosed location before taking the stage again Sunday night in Chapel Hill.
