| Notes | ... In San Diego, there is an event called Street Scene, which is California's largest music festival.. every year over 100,000 people attend over 3 days in downtown Gaslamp area... Real big names perform... In 2001 & 2002 we (I'm part of the management for the production company) did a Tribute To Hendrix, produced by the Hendrix estate (Bob Hendrix, and Jannie)... 2002's event saw Buddy Miles, Bill Cox, and Mitch Mitchell joined by Robert Randolph, Bernard (son of Luther) Allison, John Popper, Los Lobos, Kenny Wayen Shepard, Living Colour, Slash, Dave Navarro, Stephen Stills and Mick Taylor who played an amazing version of Red House with the great band Indigenous as his backup... I recorded both the rehearsals that took place in the afternoon and the concert in the evening.... the concert recording itself is missing the first 3 songs, and the last song (Stills doing Hey Joe w/ Billy Cox and Mitch Mitchell) I was unable to record, BUT I recently unearthed an alternate source for the Stills track), .. also the afternoon rehearsals for the show were a loose affair... artists coming and going, but throughout the whole rehearsal, Mitch Mitchell, and then Buddy Miles sat in on the drums, with Billy Cox playing bass for everyone.... there were not much vocals done in the rehearsals, but it is very interesting to hear how these songs were put together..... On the rehearsals, the Mick Taylor/Indigenous version of Red Houseand Robert Randolph working out Purple Haze w/ Cox and Mitchell, and Slash working out Stone Free w/ Cox and Buddy Miles are fascinating. |
