Most of the ghosting images, red glow, and the hazy analog noise in the background are now gone from this video. There's almost always a little give and take when doing something like this. The take was getting rid of the aforementioned "dirt." The give was having to darken the video a bit. However, due to the way this was originally lit, I think it's a more than fair swap. There will be times when things that were originally visible in the background area (like speaker cabinets) are no longer visible. But the people - especially Bowie himself, was always pretty well lit, so you can still see him just fine. I also did some color correction and lowered the saturation. Encoding: VBR 2-pass 9,000 max - 6,400 avg - 500 minimum using the Main Concept Encoder in Vegas Video. Audio encoded at 224 .ac3. I authored this to DVD in DVD Architect v2. I captured the video from the "Savage Jaw" DVD (many thanks to Canadian Dimer gibby299 for sending that to me) and got audio off of a VHS tape sent to me by Dimer purrcafe. This was truly a case of several Dimers coming together and pooling their resources and skills to create an upgrade of a great, historical performance. I tweaked the audio a bit to raise the high end just a touch. I was very tempted to try and take some of the hiss out of the audio. However, after trying a few hiss removal settings in Cool Edit Pro, the end result wasn't worth it because some of the other audio spectrum got cut out with the hiss, and there wasn't that much hiss to begin with (you only here it between songs for the most part). NOTE: This is clearly marked in several spots with text embedded in the video that it is "not for sale - free trade only." If you plan on selling it - be prepared to have to explain the aforementioned text to your customers. |
