In this case better wait until more people have finished the download and are seeding as well. recording info: recorded with Sharp md recorder MD-SR75, Vivanco EM216 mic, Universum stereo mini disc deck ---> soundforge ---> cd wave ---> you center, approx. 4-5 meters away from the stage *********************************************************************************** why did it take so long to upload and what a pain in the ass it was to get this recording done and upped at dime (for those who like trivia) When I read, that SY will perform the entire DDN album on my 41th birthday, 21st June 2007, it was clear that this was the perfect birthday present for me. I hadn`t seen SY live for years (the last time at the Rockpalast festival in Germany, Loreley in 1999). A good friend of mine, A., who had fully recovered from a psychosis (caused by too much dope) is also a big SY fan, so I called him and told him that I already had ordered two tickets, that we would rent a car, drive to Munich (a 4-5 hour drive from where I live) enjoy the show and drive home the next day. The day of the concert went closer and nowadays I don`t go to concerts very often, one or two killer gigs (carefully chosen) a year. Last year: 2 Brian Eno gigs and Steve Reich- this year nothing yet, so SY was a good choice, always is. I was more and more excited. The day before the concert a close friend called and told me that A. had started to smoke dope again and showed some signs of wired behaviour. The next day I called A. and told him that I would not take the risk of taking him with me. Of course he was totally pissed but I kept imagining the risks of a psyched out person (maybe getting lost or whatever)- which is something I need like a hole in the head. On the way to Munich (by car) there were lots of traffic jams, then driving around in a strange city to find a parking lot ... By the time I arrived at the festival site I was very tired. Yet, I heard live music from the distance and got all excited. I brought a box with many SY vinyl rarities covers with me in order to get them signed by the band. The problem was, that this thing was heavy and unhandy (plus I had to watch it the whole time). I also had a camera with me plus the audio recording device. You see, I am a perfectionist in a certain way, I have this huge list in my head and unless I have all points on this list crossed out I can`t really enjoy the concert- -record covers signed (check) -concert photos taken (check) -gig poster in perfect hape taken off the wall (check) -fine audio recording made (check) The festival ground was like a big carnival, many stores, tents, bars, lounges, attractions with a huge (circus) tent in between (where the concert was going to take place). First I treid to get the signatures, usually it is easiest to get them before the show, this way I could get rid of the unhandy LP box. I found the big black band bus behind a huge fence and asked the security nicely if I could hand him the box over in order to pass it to the band. This way, they could sign the stuff whenever they wanted and I would pick the box up somewhere later. He was a very arrogant and totally uncooperative guy and turned me down. He said that maybe after the show the band would come out again to sign stuff. After two hours people started to get in line in order to get inside, from the outside you could hear the band doing a soundcheck, which was really loud and very promising. When I went in (fortunately) the security was only intersted in the LP box and didn`t check me or my pocket. The sound inside the tent was TERRIBLE!!!!! For over an hour I went back and forth in order to find the best spot for the recording. In the end I gave up hope to get a good recording, when the band started to play the vocals were barely to hear, too much bass, too much drums. I had the mic clipped to my shirt (which later turned out to be a good choice). I totally concentrated on the recording, I took no pictures, kept quiet (except in the encores, when Thurston announces Mark (former Pavement bass player), you can hear me howl and whistle along the first track of the encores. (Sorry, I wasn`t even aware of it unless I had the prove taped). During the show I had my bag plus the LP box placed between my legs. All over sudden a guy comes running by, pushes me over (I was totally surprised because I totally focused on my md recorder). Next thing I relaise: My bag is missing. With car keys etc. inside. A guy next to me asked me what had hapened, I replied (like an idiot) `bag, bag`. For one moment I was in a shock. He took his cell phone, set it to flash light modus, dove deep down, crwled between the legs of the people in front of us and 3 minutes later he returned with my bag. If this guy reads this post, thanks again, this was very cool! After the show I tried again to ask the stage worker & security if they can pass the album covers to the band- again very very arrogant and totally uncooperative replies. Then all people were asked to leave. I tried again to get to the band bus from the outside, no luck... I had spotted two gig posters on the concert ground (before the concerts there was security nearby so I couldn`t get one), after the show they were gone (of course!). And except the regular cds the merchendise stand had nothing new to offer for a collector and fan. ..So most of my check list topics remained unchecked I don`t want to bitch, but I kept thinkÏng `Bernd, you are too old for this shit`. I think I was just too tired and had too many subjects on my to do list. After I returned home and had a listen to the recording I was pleasantly surprised!!! The adience surrounding me absorbed most of the bass and the vocals are way more clearly recorded then heard during the gig. This was the moment when I relaxed and (in retrospect) started to fully apprechiate the gig When started to convert the recording I had terrible volume fluctuations. Then the md player died. Then my 2nd md player also died. I bought another one 2nd hand at ebay. Which was also broken. Finally yesterday I received a good one. Hip hip hooray. the fluctuations were not on the recording but due to the portable md that died. Special props and thanks to my good friend fastone, who was so kind to let me have his md recorder and mic, otherwise I couldn`t have recorded this.
