| J-Card Comment | The Smiths were very warmly welcome to Detroit. Security had to line up on stage because fans were absolutely rabid. No changes were made to the setlist. Between "Stretch Out And Wait" and "The Boy With The Thorn In His Side" Morrissey announced that the former or the latter had been written or made famous "...by Whitney Houston," then added "I don't think so..." The yet-to-be-released "Is It Really So Strange?" was followed by the line "That song was called 'Is It Really So Strange'... what?..." Long stretches of "That Joke Isn't Funny Anymore" were done as an instrumental, probably because there was too much action on stage keeping Morrissey away from his microphone. An audience recording of the concert has made it to common circulation. Its sound quality is good, but the version commonly circulated was very badly edited by the person who shared it. It lacks the end of "How Soon Is Now?" and most of the interaction with the audience. Thanks to wolfsbane at G101. Rare Smiths - enjoy! x |
