| Tech Notes | LDB Special Series #144 Out of my 7,000+ shows and radio broadcasts, I have many concerts that were special for some reasons: the setlist, the musicians, the venue or unexpected events. These are the ones I'd like to propose you. Most of these come from my cassettes collection, so they will be released at a slower pace than my Master Series! But you won't be disappointed! I will try to gather the most unusual things I have in my collection and, as always, your feedback and comments will be my reward for all the work involved in this project. DO NOT share this music on mp3, just convert it for your own use. Sharing mp3's is the right way to make me stop sharing music here. U2 Belfast, McMordie Hall @ Queen's University, Northern Ireland January 23, 1981 01 The Ocean 02 11 O'Clock Tick Tock 03 An Cat Dubh 04 Into The Heart 05 Another Time, Another Place 06 The Cry / The Electric Co. 07 I Will Follow 08 A Day Without Me 09 Out Of Control Lineage: Soundboard or TV > n generation tape > Aiwa Tape Deck TC-WE475 > Audiophile 2496 Soundblaster > HD > SoundForge 7.0 > CD Wave > FLAC Frontend (level 6) I had this show in two parts on two different tapes so I decided to get things right, delete cuts, balance overall sound and improve it a bit. Then it came the issue of venue & date. The tapes were labelled Belfast, Eire Council 27/01/1981 but no show fit with that venue & date. The setlist definetely looked like the 1st leg of the European Boy tour, so it must have been between december 1980 and january 1981. Bono mentions indeed that the band is playing Belfast so there was no doubt about the city. A closer look to the tour history showed that U2 played at Queen's University on the 23rd and that the show had been filmed by the BBC, but with 5 tracks only broadcasted. This one has 9 tracks and seem to be sourced either from the TV broadcast, or a soundboard. The sound is not superb but definetely this is clear enough to be sourced from a non-audience. Quite an energetic show. Again, some mysteries around he setlist because A Day Without Me is not listed but the version present here is indeed from Belfast. Enjoy! ldb |
