Fourteen shows were played from the 18th through the 23rd. Only three of those circulate with unknown dates. Here they are, presented together for the first time, in segments. This is meaningful partly because of Bob, Peter, and Joe, and partly because it's historically accurate. Each segment has it's own text file with some notes. So big respect to the kind traders who kept these alive for so long. Jah bless them and Joey Newlander who compiled these and opened his collection for us. nibs/2004/ezt The Wailers Upstairs at Max's Kansas City New York City, NY July 18-23, 1973 Segment #1 Source: Audience to reel , However, possibly through the board. Lineage: Reel > C > DAT > CD > Plex 48A > EAC > CDWav > FFE > FLAC Length: 33:36 min 1) Bend Down Low [3:54] 2) Lively Up Yourself [3:54] 3) Slave Driver [4:45] 4) Stop That Train [3:52] 5) Stir It Up [5:08] 6) Kinky Reggae [3:47] 7) Get Up, Stand Up [4:27] 8) E: Rude Boy [4:25] Notes: The Wailers began the Catch A Fire North American Tour with a trip to Ontario, then a fourteen show run at Paul's Mall in Boston from July 9th - 15th. They then hit the Big Apple for a fourteen show run opening up for Bruce Springsteen at Max's Kansas City, Upstairs. There were two shows per night and three shows on the weekend. It is highly unlikely that these were the first US appearances by the Wailers, as they apparently did a mini-tour of New York and the Northeast the previous December around New Years. All three recordings we have from this run are most likely mastered by the same recordist. Definitely two of the three sets appear to be either the same night or two consecutive nights. My guess is that these recordings were made at the soundboard, if not through it, either by the engineer or someone associated with the venue. This lends high hopes to the existence and survival of the remaining 11 sets. This show has a great Stir It Up that begins with a terrific keyboard rhythm. The Kinky Reggae that follows picks up on the same energy, as you get to hear Peter Tosh and Joe Higgs on backing vocals. Joining in the energy, Aston Barrett delivers a blazing bass line during Get Up Stand Up. Flaws: There is slight overmodulation and hiss throughout the recording. t5 - 1:33 - Subsecond drop out t8 - 0:47 - Subsecond static pop Credits: To Joey Newlander, aka cosmofone, for providing the compilation to be seeded to Easytree for the Wailers fans out there.
