02/15/91

Colonial Theater
Keene, NH
3 CDR A- The sets were reconstructed and all cuts or tape flips (indicated by //) have been seemlessly crossfaded. Each cut did have minimal music/material loss at each point. Don't let this inhibit listening to this show, you won't notice the flips.

03/22/91

Inferno
Steamboat, CO
3 CDR B- This show comes from an unknown analog generation cassette. There are times where the age of the tape is really prevalent. There is also some very noticable wow and flutter at times in set 1. Set 2 is much cleaner, and I do believe it to be a cassette closer to the master than set 1. There are PA problems at the start of the show, it sounds like the left channel blew out....still, this is all we got for now till the master DAT's surface.

04/20/91

University of Rochester
Rochester, NY
3 CDR B- Great show...only about 200-300 people can fit into the cafeteria at the U of R. The boys played their butts off for those who were there. The energy is very high all night. Hopefully this will just egg whoever has the master DAT's (or a clone of them) to get off their butts and SHN it...but until that time comes, this is what we have....and with this show, I'll take what I can get! Love the comments about the car giveaway (listen to 9-26-91 for the car giveaway) at the start of set 2....gotta love hearing Fishman yelling the words "YEAH!! DOPE!!! He Probably bought dope with the money...DOPE!!" }}Tech Notes{{ This show has gone through an unknown ammount of analog generations before this transfer. This is by no means a *great* sounding recording. The pitch was way off, more than 1 whole step. This was corrected in Wavelab using the highest quality/accuracy settings possible. Horn still sounds horribly offspeed, but rest assured that it was changed in relation to the rest of the material. The tape, as I recieved it, was in pretty bad shape. The levels of the high frequencies are almost non-audible...I contacted a few others I know that have these tapes as well, and this problem was present on everyone's copies. The high-frequency hiss was so unbearable, I had to try and remove it while retaining what was left of the audible high-frequencies. I did this to the best of my abilities. While not perfect, if listened to with the treble not jacked up all the way it is bearable... I can only imagine what the source DAT's must sound like...the seperation is wonderful even on these tapes. All work was done at the 192kHz sample rate before downsampling to 44.1kHz for final mastering for CD.

3 CDR B+ - The SBD for set 2 had a flip in almost the same place as the AUD source. The AUD source was used as it was missing less music. There is another one later in YEM that was patched with the AUD source. - Sweet Adeline is from the AUD source.

Then more Harpua and the Jimmy story (Jimmy and Poster Nutbag going to Vegas). They stop and camp. At the campsite, they start yodeling, at which point John McEuen, Heather and Anamiekl August did a country/yodel tune. The story continues, Jimmy and Poster meet up with four Elvis' on the edge of Las Vegas and have a duel. The four Elvis's sing the first few verses of "Suspicious Minds" and then Fishman continues. Jimmy is victorious. Then the dog and cat fight occurs. Harpua wins and the song finishes. At some point everyone returns and then Brian Mantia, the drummer for Primus, shows up for "Suzy Greenberg." "Suzie Q" is lead by one of the Elvis'.

3 CDR A * - Before Llama Trey introduces the band, including Jon as "Bob Weaver", Mike as "Michael Jordan" and himself as the "skinny guinea" and pulls up his shirt to show how skinny he is; he then encouraged people to start clapping along while he clapped in an offbeat rhythm before slapping himself on the cheek and then the forehead and encouraging people to slap the face of the person next to them, but no one did. He then encouraged people to get naked and make passionate love, but again no one did. After the song he told that the passionate lovemaking portion of the show was over and that he apologized for not giving them more time ** - unfinished *** - first time played; pronounced "Gee-For-Jay"; Trey on keyboards; similar to recent versions of "Catapult"; **** - Trey sets up delay loop and swings his guitar around so Page plays the ascending riff

3 CDR A *With Trey on keys *With Japanese lyrics; Trey and Mike doing the Meatstick dance. Pre-show music included the Rolling Stones' "The Last Time," which was interrupted to begin Set I. Post-show music was The Beatles' "Let It Be." The crowd did not leave, but stayed and gave the crew a standing ovation as they packed up.

12/31/02

Madison Square Garden
New York, NY
3 CDR A Pre-show music on the PA included the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme, "Reunited," "The Boys are Back in Town," and "Foreplay/Long Time." * Preceeded by footage from the movie "Castaway" on the jumbotron screens on the scoreboard (scenes in which Tom Hanks's character is yelling for his befriended volleyball named "Wilson"); with 'Tom Hanks' (actually Page's brother, Steve McConnell) on vocals for the "Blat Boom..." part. ** During "Seven Below" a disco ball was lowered from within the scoreboard and it began snowing on stage; several dancers in white with blinking light "stick figure skeletons", dressed as snow creatures (with a vaguely "winter/forest kingdom" fantasy motif, including white costumes with fur and some horned helmets) came out and began circling the band on stage before moving off into the crowd - while in the crowd several grew into large snow angels by adding stilts to their costumes; midway during the song snow began falling on the fans on the floor from a pair of snowmaking rigs on the right and left sides of the scoreboard above the floor; shortly before midnight, the snow angels began shining small spotlights around the crowd, appearing similar to search lights *** At midnight, pyrotechnics spiraled around and behind the stage (some coming from the snowmaking rigs) and enormous white balloons with snow designs were dropped onto the floor. ^ Includes "What's The Use" tease Last Time Loves A Hero August 11, 1998 (148 shows) Last Mound November 19, 1996 (272 shows)

IT Festival Tower Set Ambient Jam
Limestone, ME
1 CDR A An all-improvised (and unannounced, though heavily rumored) set from the roof of the old air-traffic control tower, taking place about 2-3am (thus actual date is 8-3-03), with special lighting by Chris Kuroda. Featured many teases, accompanied by dancers on rappel lines down the tower's sides. Admin Note: As this type of jam has been considered as 'Set 4' for this and previous festivals, the date of 8-2-03 is the most appropriate

4 CDR A * Trey said something to the effect of: "Hey, Kevin, there's a post-able version of 'Wilson.' Ladies and gentlemen, the Shortest 'Wilson' Ever! I'd like to dedicated that to our archivist, Kevin Shapiro... And now: the longest 'Bittersweet Motel' ever - I'm kidding!" Then the crowd started an enormous chant for 'Fluffhead.' After conferring with the band, Trey said, "Mike says no" - and the band launched into 'Mike's Song' ** with massive glowstick war ^ Phish played the song in the background as the winners from the '100th Running of the First Annual Runaway Jim 5K' were brought up on stage and announced by Trey with photos on the video screen (the women's second-place finisher was actually Trey's neighbor "from right down the road" and the men's winner, from nearby Presque Isle, had a time of 15min for the 5k) ^^ after the "downshift," Trey thanks the crew and the crowd; when the band returns to the song, they skip the "Rye rye rocco/Marco/Spike" lyrics section # with fireworks behind the stage during the close of the song
