The analogue i/o from PCM to DAT is necessary because one of the data streams on the PCM tape is corrupted. It was burned from the PCM processor to a video tape and the VCR put a little image of a digital clock onto the tape. That is why most of the Betty Board tapes that derive from a PCM source have this alanog i/o layer. Note that this is only an analog i/o from PCM to DAT, *not* an analog generation.
