Trading Rules:

All the usual -- I prefer SHN, but will also trade for CDR. If you haven't listened to what you are going to send me....listen to it! If there are GAPS, CLICKS, etc., I DON'T WANT IT. I sound mean. I'm not. I love you. I am open for B+P's -- just ask! I'm kind of generally looking for Phish, 1997, and then whatever else is interesting. Please use quality discs. Also, I'm currently ONLY mail-trading shows that are listed as SHN or FLAC formats. I'd be glad to convert them to CDR for you, but I'm not trading shows listed as CDR (it's an archive issue).

Thanks,

-Mike

Psychedelic Supermarket
Boston, MA
1 SHN Brandeis Remastered Quality: Instruments better balanced with the bass much clearer and improved attack on the guitar. Vocals remain undermixed but clearer. Drums remain clear as the recording was centre stage. Volume variations and mike repositioning effects have been smoothed. Noise levels especially tape hiss significantly reduced. Final quality is not as good as Grande Ballroom but very listenable especially in conjunction with the excellence of the performance. Psychedelic Supermarket Remastered Quality: Original recording quality was very low. The remaster has improved the balance but the bass remains dominant (much to the delight of Bruce fans!) but muddy. Noise levels are reduced but they remain noticeable. Final quality can only be classed as reasonable.

2 SHN Notes on Seed Lineage/Quality The reported lineage of the tree seeds is SBD master reel > unknown number of DAT gens > unknown number of CD gens. There is a buzz from the PA system present throughout the recording, and noticable mostly between songs. I am told that this is common for Tuna SBD's from this era. There are significant digi-drops beginning at around 1:15 in d2t6 (Hamar Promenade) and continuing until d2t7 (Walkin' Blues) 2:20. These are the only digi-flaws of any kind that I noted in the seed discs. All tree branches are EAC users, so I expect that no additional digi-problems will be introduced on the tree. The volume drops off at around 6:40 of the last track (Feel So Good) and remains low for the rest of the song. Despite the flaws described above, this is a very listenable recording of an excellent show. I have retracked the seed discs (using Cool Edit 2000 to combine .wav's and CD Wave to re-split on sector boundaries) in order to place track breaks at the beginning of songs or song introductions. (Original discs had most of the track breaks at the end of songs.) http://www.houston.quik.com/phobos/

2 SHN Notes (09/05/02): This show was not taped by any audience members. This source is directly from moe.'s soundboard tape. Huge thanks to those within the organization that were able to seed this gem of a show and those that begged, borrowed and pleaded to get it out of the vaults. The setlist for this show was in part chosen by some people who drove to the show from the midwest, hence the strange segues and appearance of some songs in different keys than normal. It seems the band knew there were no tapers at the show and therefore did some things very out of the ordinary. Enjoy!

1 SHN Early generation version of good quality audience recording, supplied via the ever wonderful Ian Rosen (via Ron). An excellent copy of a great sounding show on what was a "difficult" tour of Europe for Neil. Neil's comments as he restarts Opera Star - "We'd better get this right or we'll be playing on the street next time" hint at a tour where many fans had deserted him. But the sound and energy of Drive Back, Surfer Joe and Opera Star on this show really jump out at you and See the Sky About to Rain is always worth hearing. Probably the best example of the 87 Europe shows ....

Back in 89 I happened to be on the west coast and had the good luck to record this show while visiting a friend. She had the only 1st gen copy, and has since died. I don't know what happened to her tape or if she made copies. Even if she did, this version will sound better. There must have been other tapers at this show as well. Are there other versions available? I like to hear other versions of shows I recorded! Wonderful acoustic outdoor show. Bright, transparent sound. Open on the high end with plenty of bottom on the acoustic guitar thanks to outstanding engineering. The crowd noise is not a serious distraction. I ran out of tape so the last song in missing. Funny how Neil demonstrates democratic values better than most American bands do these days. A great American considering he is Canadian. Blame Canada!! thanx chriss for setlist..

Lots of tracks were cut wrong and were merged with CoolEdit then recut with CDWave. There's a major dropout in La Grange. The silent section is obviously the wrong length but I left that alone. There were various other smaller things that were done before running the whole thing through shntool to fix sector boundaries. I hope you enjoy the less than perfect results. bmitchel@citlink.ne

There was only room for about a 10% increase without clipping; you could probably go up to 150% or so if you clip the peaks. I figured for this show, since the levels were pretty good, I'd leave it alone and let everyone have an unadulterated source.

Source: unknown aud (seems like a DAT recording) > ? > CDR > EAC > WAV > editing > SHN Setlist: 01 Pyramid Song (was then called "Nothing To Fear") 02 Street Spirit (Fade Out) 03 I'll Wear it Proudly (Elvis Costello cover) 04 Lucky 05 Karma Police 06 Exit Music (For a Film)* * seems to be taken from another source! Sounds like FM/TV/etc... (Could be from a completely different show, even - although there's no evidence to that.) edits: Files joint and re-tracked. There was TINY gaps between tracks (not cut on sector boundaries!). Also some pops/short digi-noises removed throughout the show. (I tested it with a freqency analysis -- it is DEFINETLY not MP3 sourced....maybe TAO WAY back in lineage???)

1 FLAC Source: AUD (Taped by Steve Keyser) > ?? > CDR > cdrparanoia > WAV > repairs (Amadeus II 3.6) > FLAC Repairs by Dirtybrew (meltingsoul@hotmail.com) I moved the tuning and chatter from the beginning of each track to the end of the previous track. -There are many small noises that sound like something brushing against the microphone. Since almost all of them are between songs, I chose not to fix most of them. -I eliminated the hiss by using a filter to dampen the high frequencies. The rest of the recording was unaffected. -t03: Fixed bad static in right channel, but there is still some fluctuations in the right channel from 5:20 to 6:05 (between songs). -t05: dropout from 6:50-6:53. Not repaired. -t12: Static burst at 0:00-0:01. Couldn't fix. -t13: Mono track. Cut out static bursts during end applause and faded out. The intro is also cut off, I'd imagine because this song seems to be an encore from later in the show and the recording equipment was probably hastily set up when the band came back on.

While the original source was compressed, this is the best source out there, and editing and tracking required upsamplig it to a .wav file. I didnt want to recompress it with another lossy codec, so here it is. There is also a 128k mp3 version circulating, made from these FLAC files.
