Don't know the origin of this video. Looks like it's
backstage (early morning?). The song isn't very good,
but it's great to see Jerry, and you can also see
Bob standing next to him. |

>From www.deadlists.com:
Grateful Dead with members of Jefferson Airpane (definitely Jorma, Jack, and Joey Covington, who handles some vocals). Baby What You Want Me To Do is also known as Peepin & Hidin. The drummers start Wipe Out (apparently also sometimes referred to as "Pipeline") in response to a request from the audience for "Wipe Out." |

Discs 1 & 2 are a compilation of multiple Audience sources which were used to piece together
the complete 1st set and first 4 songs of the 2nd set. A big thanks to Mick Etherington,
Dave Lang, Simon Mould, Simon Phillips, as well as Chris Jones- the only taper we can
identify- for supplying their copies of this show, as well as Alan Schlissel and Steve Barbella
for getting the different versions all in one place. The various versions were all speed
corrected, but there are still some speed fluctuations and "wow and flutter" here and there.
Discs 3 & 4 are supplied from a Master Soundboard Reel > DAT source. The previously
circulating, 2nd set partial Betty Board was used to patch "The Other One".
There is a 5th disc which contains the NRPS set and is not for the faint of heart |

Notes:
- My entire recording is included on these discs, including radio announcer (Old Saxophone Joe) intro and outro. Only material missing are two promos for Ampex tape.
- ~2 sec. dropout on Mission (3:28) was during broadcast and not a tape artifact.
- d2t05 - The Wheel from unknown AUD source (not included in original broadcast).
- d3t05 - 5:54 Around ends; remainder of track consists of crowd noise waiting for encore; 7:27 radio announcer comes on discussing encore.
- d3t08 - 2:56 Weir says "Thank y'all and good night"; 3:17 radio announcer comes in and continues through end of track. |

half of Jerry, Billy, and possibly some of Phil, is missing; Keith is minimally audible.

This is the complete show, including both encores
: Brent's first show
: First time Mickey used The Beast
: Set 1 is tracked for an 80-min CD
: 10 db hiss reduction applied in Cool Edit Pro to reduce non-trivial cassette hiss, on set 1 only. Where's that super-clean Betty Board?
Fadeout at the end of disc 2 and beginning of disc 3 on source CDs
: 2nd set sounds significantly better than Set 1. Thanks, Jeffrey! Beware: Phil is rich in the mix (peaks a bit at times) |

The '81 European Gift story: Several years ago, a friend of mine had a job at a very large airplane manufacturer near Seattle. One day, someone he'd never spoken with walked up to him in the plant and handed him a briefcase, saying only he'd heard my friend was a deadhead. What he found inside was SBDs of nearly the entire Fall '81 European Tour (the only shows missing were 10/11/81 and 10/15/81 at the Melkweg). I was recruited to dub the tapes for him, and made a set for myself. Many of these shows are now in circulation with better gens, but this is one of several that don't circulate either at all or as SBDs as of the time of this seeding. Enjoy, and let's see if the masters surface! |

.All of Ramble On Rose and the first 3 minutes of Minglewood Blues had reel issues, the left channel would come in and out. This was fixed in soundforge using channel converter, The new left channel became a mix of 40% old left and 60% right. Right channel remained 100% right. This greatly reduced the problem without destroying the stereo image. The last 20 seconds were crossfaded back into the normal channels

Diginoise in Hey Pockey way at 0:24 during the audience and at
0:27 opening note. The AUD used for patching was very bad so I only
patched in what was missing in this show.
- Patched in audience between Little Red Rooster and Cumberland Blues
- First 8 seconds of Cumberland Blues patched with AUD also slight pop
at 2:42
- Patched in audience between Cumberland Blues and It's All Over Now
- Patched in audience between It's All Over Now and Box of Rain
- During Bertha and Women are Smarter there seems to be a bad cable on
stage. Lots of little noises. It ends with a big spike just before
Ship of Fools.
- Some light pops through out Drums. There is also diginoise at 10:55.
- Space has a large spike at 2:57 sounds like a speaker blew out.
- Drums and Space are cut Drums fades out and Space fades in. This is
how it came to me. There is only about 15 seconds missing. The AUD
was horrible at this point, with people talking into the mics. So
I left this as is.
- Truckin at 2:32 has some kind of noise seems to be from the stage
- Black Peter has diginoise for less then a second at: 5:24, 5:36 and
5:43
- Sugar Magnolia (SSDD actually) has a slight touch of diginoise at
6:38

* noise at 3:34 & 4:16 from the sound system
x 1st part cut comes in at ..."On my way, on my way" right before
"Left my boots in transit" verse
# There are several places in drums begining at 2:58 where a deep bass
drum causes clipping. Its especially bad at 4:58.
The levels on the MC were were very hot, but fortunately only a few
places in drums were clipped.
@ removed small blips of digi spurts at the miracle > Wharf rat
and the Wharf rat > lovelight transtions.
Now it sounds similar to small skips. Before the edit, it sounded like
small skips with digi spurts. Maybe due to some previous tracking which
didnt follow red book standards?

This is a very crispy Matrix, with lots of audience mixed in. Very good sound.
There is no break between I Know You Rider and Estimated Prophet, so those who want to assemble this as a three-disk show can do so seamlessly.
Tape flip between drums and space suggests a cassette generation in there somehwere; missing very little.
