With Zakk Wylde filling in for Dickey Betts. The tracks fade out at the end of some songs (I think to fit this show on 2 discs ) but not during transitions or jams so no sense of musical loss is apparent. A very good sounding Aud. recording so proceed without caution. |

Notes: Pink Floyd's David Gilmour performs his first solo gig in London for over a decade. His lead guitar and vocals have created a whole world of sound - expansive, engrossing, seductive. In his solo work and 30 years with the earth-force that is Pink Floyd, Gilmour has inspired our contemporary best.
Technical Details: This source was recorded from Level 4 Terrace, Seat F17 (a few rows behind the mixing desk, and slightly stage left).
This recording has never departed the digital domain. Exact lineage is as follows: Sony ECM-717 (stereo electret condenser mic) > Sony MZ-R30 (automatic leveling) > SONY MDSJB940 > optical link > PHILIPS CDR785 > CDR > EAC > CEPro > CDR.

I made 2 unfriendly transfers of Mini Discs, one after the acoustic set, & one at the end of the show. There's also a point where my mics get bumped a couple of times and there's some unwelcome audience chatting. The sound is great, we were about 75 feet from the stage on the left side of the arena. |

With Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. & sounds like Johnny Carson is there as well.
I'm not sure if the date is 6-20-65 as it was labeled. This sounds like it might be taken from a video and the sound isn't wonderful but it's definatwly worth hearing. |

Comment Deadlists comments, "This circulates as "Tuesday Night Jam" with: Jerry Garcia, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Elvin Bishop, Steve Miller, Mickey Hart, and Will Scarlett. All those names except Will Scarlet are listed on the poster, which says it was a benefit ( admission) - but doesn't say what the benefit was for! The poster calls this a "Rock Jam" and says it will be "Heavy". This used to circulate as "Unknown '67 from the Matrix". Jorma was asked and he does remember this

There is about 60+ seconds of Digi-noise at the beginning of disc 2, during Scarlet Begonias.
This is my show, this is why I'm a Dead Head. I could tell you exactly where I was when I got IT! Second set, second solo during "Fire" That riff from the Phat Man was all it took. I had to rewind it several times to make sure I heard it Correctly. I wasn't there but this is the show that did it for me and if you love the Dead you MUST have this show. |

This is the only source from this show I've been able to find. Unfortunately the drums>space>jam are cut :( It's a little dense sounding, not bad really considering it's from a huge un-accoustic concrete building. |

Axl's vocals are a bit back in the mix for the first few songs. This obviously has an analog source somewhere because it warbles at places. But, it's a pretty cool document from when these guys were the new Stones. |

Strange. This recording was done in a 800 seat theater but the vocals seem distant. There's a decent amount of effects on her voice (I think) but what the problem is really is that the acoustics suck. This sounds like the dream you can't remember having but you know you did. |

"Listen To This Eddie - Definitive Edition" (Jelly Roll - Matrix numbers 24/25/26)
Notes (from Saitoh):
This is the legendary Eddie tape from Mark Millard (who braught us many a zep show with his wheelchair, nakamichi cassette deck, and AKG mics, my god have mercy on his soul...), but missed the typical 20+ seconds of 10 Years Gone. That missing section has expertly been patched from an alterate source of the same night, and the sound quality remains strong during the patch (some speculate that 2 sources were used, others say just one, whatever, its a complete copy, thats what matters). This is the third issue of this show from Jelly Roll, and finally the best version hands down.
Source info (based on what I know):
AUD - (AKG mics > Nakamichi Stereo cassette deck) + (Unknown aud splice in TYG) > Listen to This Eddie Definitive Edition (Jelly Roll).
(Taken from Underground Uprising, aka Tight But Loose)
Listen to this Eddie - Definitive Edition Jelly Roll
1977 was not the greatest year for the band, but one wouldn?t really know it after listening to this legendary recording. Like most excellent Zeppelin audience recordings from the Los Angeles area, this show was expertly taped by the same late Mike Millard. The title of this show, like Live on Blueberry Hill (9/4/70), For Badgeholders Only (6/23/77), Going to California (9/14/71) and Bonzo?s Birthday Party (5/31/73), seems to be as popular as the recording itself. Each time someone re-releases it, they usually keep the name. The first notable CD release of this show was on the European Silver Rarities label, in excellent sound, on their title "Listen to this Eddie: Parts 1,2,3". That label also re-released the show in a remastered format on "Listen to this Eddie Master Series", which contained a great deal of bass frequency enhancement, and set a precedent for the way the tape would commonly be treated by others on future releases. The original Tarantura label put out it?s "Week for Badgeholders" box set, containing all 6 shows from Zeppelin?s 77 stint at the Inglewood Forum, with great results, but their "Out on the Tiles" was not quite as good as the second Silver Rarities offering. The Diagrams of Led Zeppelin (TDOLZ) also put out their own "Power and Glory" box set, similar to Tarantura?s but with better sound on some discs, and poorer sound on others. Their "Listen to this Eddie" contained great sound on the first two discs, but inferior sound on the last one. The Jelly Roll label first took a crack at the "Eddie" show with "Listen to this Eddie: Remastered Version", and the sound was on par with the Silver Rarities Master Series release. They then re-released their tape with this release, "Listen to this Eddie: Definitive Complete Version". It has long been frustrating for Zeppelin collectors that one of the most famous shows has not been available in uncut form.
As most know, all previous releases have come from the same Millard tape that has been circulating for years. Superb sound, dynamic and balanced instrumentation, amazing atmosphere, and a bootleggers dream of a performance (for 77 that is). However, on this tape there have always been two very noticeable cuts: one in the Guitar solo in Ten Years Gone, and one between the Page guitar solo and Achilles Last Stand. Whether or not Millard himself intentionally made these cuts prior to distributing (ED NOTE FROM SAITOH: Millard was notorious for sabatoging his 1st gen copys he traded away so he could track who was circulating what, and these cuts are *likely* his doing, and not a tape flip) or they somehow got put there by someone else in the chain is not known. It is possible that the TYG cut is actually Millard switching or turning his tape over during the song, but the cut before Achilles is too small to likely be on the master. The reason why this second Jelly Roll release is "complete" is because it has used alternate sources to fill both the gap in Ten Years Gone and the one before Achilles. The insertion of the sources is seamlessly done and the sound quality is excellent as well. What makes this release "definitive" is that it not only is the first and only release to have the gaps filled, but has sound equal to, but slightly tighter, than the Silver Rarities Master release. The bass frequencies on the Silver Rarities Master release were excellent, but occasionally too much when played at higher volumes. The "definitive" Jelly Roll release has kept the bass just as powerful, without blowing your speakers. Bonham?s drums are nice and defined, the cymbals are less tinny but still pronounced, and the guitar isn?t as overly mushy with the rest of the sound like it tends to be EQ?d on most other release of this show. The overall sound is more punchy and the tape is processed cleanly without adding any hiss. Keep in mind that the Millard tape is practically perfect as it is, so it really shouldn?t be that difficult to make a good release if one masters correctly. It is worth noting the most recent release of this show on the Tarantura 2000 label, "Absence: Listen to this Eddie". A very expensive, limited edition, and unfortunately inferior effort. Unlike other labels, Tarantura 2000 opted not to use the same bass frequency emphasis on their release. Their release sounds louder with more instrument definition, but only due to an excessive amount of equalizing, which left the tape with a lot of extra tape hiss and much duller on the drums. However, the cut in Ten Years Gone was a few seconds shorter than normal, which was probably the only real benefit of that release overall. But the Tarantura 2000 release came out after the Jelly Roll "Definitive", so the ability to offer a complete show had already been made. Simply a giant step backwards.
As for the performance, it is a high-energy Zeppelin return to the forum. Plant is in the best voice he will be for the tour, and Bonham is unstoppable. The Song Remains the Same is an amazing rendition, with absolutely phenomenal drumming. At the 6/19 San Diego show two days earlier, Bonham wasn?t quite so well, and he obviously is making up for it at this show. As for Page, although in standard 1977 inconsistent shape, he is great as well. His playing is much better than most shows on this tour, but by no means exceptional. His solo in Stairway to Heaven, however, is probably his best of the tour and he does great in Bron-yr-Aur stomp, TSRTS, Sick Again (minus the guitar cut out), and Achilles. But really this show is all about Plant and Bonham. The essential highlights are the first three tracks, a very emotional Stairway, a truly devastating Kashmir, Heartbreaker (although a pale comparison with past tour performances), and an amazing Achilles Last Stand, which is easily the band?s best performance of the song. It is a triumphant night for the band, and the sincere connection with the audience makes it all the more great. This show is mandatory for sound quality, significance, and for being the best overall Zeppelin show of their entire 1977 tour. As for this Jelly Roll release, it is truly the definitive issue. That is, unless the Millard tape is ever released in complete form. Now that would really be definitive! (Mike Magnon Jan 02)

This is a real interesting recording. The sound is HUGE and I swear that it was done right at the foot of the stage but....it has some minimal hiss but more prevelant in the recording is this strange electronic humming or static or something. My theory is that the tapers equipment is picking up signals off of the amps on stage & therefore it won't be possible to get a better sounding copy unless there is a completely seperate source. Technically I'd rate this a B-/C+ but it's worth hearing just because the sound is amazing. I would be extremely interested in an upgrade of this show. |

This sounds like a MD recording because there are 2 edits during the first song, "Calling Elvis" which were probably pauses to adjust levels.
There is digi noise on the second encore of disc 2. Vocals tend to become more distant during the course of the show. Still a pretty decent recording. |

This is more a document than it's a tradeable show. It sounds like it's recorded in mono with a really simple rig. There's no obtrusive crowd noise but the recording is just flat although I'm enjoying it as I write all this. Only if you really want to hear everything that was ever taped.

There are two points in the first song (First Tube) where the sound completely cuts out, but for only an instant. I don't know how else to explain it. Each time it dosen't last for more than 1/2 a second so if you're a completist, look elsewhere. |

This is commonly mislabeled as 9-16-70. In the book "In the Flesh" which is a comprehensive listing of every known show that Pink Floyd played, under this date it reads the following: "A live audience recording session for BBC Radio One in which the band performed "The Embryo, Fat Old Sun, Green is the Color, Careful With That Axe Eugene, If, and Atom Heart Mother (with the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble and the John Aldiss Choir, conducted by John aldiss) for Peels Sunday Concert. It was broadcast on 7-19-70 at 4:00pm and replayed on the Sounds of the Seventies on 7-22-70 at 6:00pm."
I'm willing to bet that 7-16-70 was in fact a Sunday. |

Not a bad recording for 72' standards, all instruments are clear but it has some hiss & teeters on distorting at times which makes it a little annoying but considering it's one of the first DSOTM shows it's worth hearing. Despite the draw backs I still enjoyed listening to it. |

OK, I give this show an A+ simply because it is one of the rawest, most incredible sounding audience recordings made in the 70's in my opinion. Whom ever taped this show deserves a big pat on the back because it truly captures what it must have been like to hear this show live. There is some crowd noise, especially during the second encore but this is probably my favorite Floyd audience recording sound wise along with the 2-28-80 Nassau & the 4-26-75 Los Angeles. Not because it's flawless, but because this is dark & heavy shit being layed on this crowd and these discs capture it perfectly. |

Missing 10 seconds or so of Shine On, possibly taken from the Pulse video but there are times when it sounds like a FOB Aud. recording. Why else would it be missing part of the intro if you had the video to make a master from????? |

This is a great sounding recording but the vocals are really out front in the mix while the "rythm" guitar is somewhat buried. Sounds really different compared to what actually came off the stage. |

This is a pretty boomy & distant sounding recording but that's typical for this venue. The vocals start off almost non existant but pick up in the first few songs as does the sound, I was there & it took the board guys a few to work it out. Worth having if you were there. I have a feeling this was recorded from the side of the stage because people freak out like someones coming to there side |

Comments by The Digital Dan:
A true soundboard from the Presto tour, notably better than the Mountainview mono video source. Still, like almost all the Presto shows, the mix isn't as good as on other tours. There is only one flaw with the source used, the first bit of "Force Ten" was missing. Otherwise it is the complete show devoid of another edits or deletions. It is nice to hear the warm sounding bass and the drums just on the good side of being almost brutal. This is one of those Neil mixes, so if you like drums, you like the low end bass found on this show. Thanks again to Rubicon for helping to procure this particular source. While still not perfect, I can live with a few missing seconds from "Force Ten". As with all Digital Reproductions releases, this is for free trade only and not to be bought or sold. Please keep the spirit of trading alive.

Comments by The Digital Dan:
Well, I was quite surprised when I received this recording in trade. Another soundboard from the Counterparts tour seemed to be a little too good to be true. But Geddy identifies the location as Madison, Wisconsin before starting in with Cold Fire, making it abundantly clear. Definitely a better sounding show than the Critical Mass / Mystic Symphonies show as this source is in stereo. The show itself is one of the better shows from the CP tour, the band seems really up for the show. There are a few weird transitions between songs, the indexing is wrong for Xanadu / Hemispheres / Tom Sawyer, but this is definitely digitally sourced and is very clean. I wish there was more information about the recording, but the artwork will divulge no secrets other than it has the wrong date!

Taken from the Rush Trading Register:
One word describes this tremendous 2CD boot from the Counterparts tour. AWESOME! The sonic quality is fab - in stereo and, of course, it's a soundboard recording. The 2CD's give you the entire concert - only the encore of YYZ is missing. Highlights are numerous with rockin' renditions of Counterparts tracks such as Cold Fire - complete with Country & Western intro! - Double Agent and Stick It Out. You also get some great versions of older tracks with The Trees and Xanadu being personal favorites. The interplay between Alex and Geddy is great - for example when Alex takes the mic to introduce the band members at the end of Closer To The Heart - Ted Nugent, Karen Carpenter and Fabio! I just wish I had seen a Counterparts gig in person (no UK visit on that tour) (or on the current one!-Ed). Packaging, for those interested is dire with no pictures of the band, and a simple two color cover. Still it's what's on the discs that count and this double CD must ranks as probably one of the best Rush boot offerings out there. Beg, steal or borrow a copy as soon as you can. You won't be disappointed.

Starts off with the vocals very distant, sounds like a plug somewhere wasn't all the way in during the first song but something happens & the vocals become clear. Towards the end of the set there is a ton of talking by some stupid people which makes some of this disc hard to listen to. Jerry sits in in Tea in the Sahara |

A friend taped this but accidently had his deck set to Speach Mode so it fucked up the bass which was apparently completley blown from what he said. He ran it through CEP I believe & turned it into a pretty decent recording but the bass is still very heavy & does distort slightly throughout although everything else sounds flawless. |

Live from Austin, TX on November 22nd, 1987. Source History: D3 / Minimic Master Cassettes -> DAT -> AMD1 SA90 Cassettes -> Sony TC-WR635S Cassette Deck -> Philips Consumer CDR Recorder (Analog In) -> EAC-Secure DAE -> WAV Editing in CE2k @32 bit (S. Vahey) -> CD WAVE Editor -> WAV -> MKW Audio Compression Tools 0.97 BETA 1 -> WAV/SHN Conversion
Review from Steve's Concert Trading Page run by Steve Vahey
NOTE: This is from a nice, clean D3 source recorded most likely with the Minimic. This was a really clean 1st generation cassette conversion to cd. No EQ adjustment or noise reduction were needed at all. Just some digital editing was done at 32 bit to remove some gaps, increase the levels, and fade in/out. The tapes were recorded at a good level, so there's really no audible background noise on this. These tapes were a real pleasure to convert compared to some shows I've worked on.
The first couple tracks are slightly less clear than the rest of the show. By track 2 (I Will Follow) the taper starts to get his mics up and it's pretty consistently excellent for the rest of the show. No nearby crowd noise and no conversations. Taper had good positioning, although it's slightly distant (kick drum is not very punchy). This is a complete recording. There are two short distortions at the beginning of Disc 1, track 5 (One Tree Hill). They sound like they're from the master to me, but aren't distracting at all.
Additional comments: This is honestly one of the clearest Joshua Tree shows I've heard. Honestly, disc 2 even blows away "Rock's Hottest Ticket". If you love the J.T. era (and who doesn't), this is a MUST HAVE!

Everyone else & their Grandmother patched out of the board, but I....yes I was the only one brave enough to tape his stand to the floor and raise his mics high and proud, so it's the only AUD source out there. THIS is what the show really sounded like! I've NEVER seen the BAllroom rock as hard as this in my 20+ shows there. The floor was jumpin so hard at times that my mic stand hit the railing a few times. |
