note: This show has flaws. The venue was packed (shoulder to shoulder) and the frat boy crowd was in heavy attendance. Said fratboys insisted on continually walking over my rig (although I was standing over it) and kicked it many times. During d1t3 @ 4:31 there is a pop where the rig was kicked. This happens again on d2t1 around 7:07. Said frat boys also insisted on yelling things like "rub my clit," "more cowbell" and other idiotic things at my microphones and then proceeded to ask me for a copy of the show. PISS OFF. I hope they never get their mits on a copy. I lost the last 10 seconds of the show as well when another fratboy w00k kicked my preamp. This time it shut off. fockers. I faded the last song about 5 seconds before the end. The venue was anti-taping although most of the bands performing weren't. Therefore I snuck my rig in and ran the j-disc at about 8 feet high. Because of this, there is quite a bit of chatter, but it's not so bad that it makes the recording unlistenable. On the flip side, the crowd response is right on. Anyway, this was a fantastic show. Please enjoy.

SBD David Gans seeded the show (SBD->MR->DAT->Sonic Solutions->CDR).
Adam Jerugim obtained a CDR copy, EAC'd and uploaded it to orf.cx.
Leigh Orf did all the post-processing (Sound Forge stuff).
Note: This is *not* the Betty Board source which has circulated before.
This source came from a different two-track master reel (made by the
folks filming the Sunshine Daydream movie) and is mixed differently. |

NAK 700 (set 1) & AKG 1000E(set 2))> Master Cassette(Sony TC-D5) |
Known Flaws:
The first few notes of Music never stopped were missing on the master cassette.
Two flaws existing on the master cassette were edited using the second pass on soundforge.
The first was a 1.5 second snippet of Mama Tried (~2:23 into the track), which was patched
cleanly from another verse of the song. The second is abrupt level change near the end of
Music Never Stopped (6:30 into the track). This was normalized somewhat, however audible
artifacts do exist on this one. Both original snippets are incluided in the 'covers+archive'
folder on the shn discs. All other editing was crossfading of cassette cuts and flips, all
of these fell in crowd noise, and no music was disturbed. |

I downloaded the original shorten files from www.gdlive.com on 6/12/01.
When I played the directory containing them, with shnamp, I heard the telltale
click of a track not cut on a sector boundary during the Passenger > Cumberland
transition. I checked them with shortentool and confirmed that nine of the
original tracks were not cut on sector boundaries, then ran shortentool's fix
routine to repair the sector boundaries. The output from shortentool is included. |

Fall 1991 DSBD *the original .shns (source was listed as "DSBD --> Dat (that's
all I know) Sound great!!!") were not split on sector boundaries
(only disc 1). I took the original .shns, decompressed them, put
the .wavs back together in CoolEdit, and then cut them up
correctly in CDWAV. Disc 2 was redone as well, just for the sake
of splitting up a couple of tracks that weren't split on the
original .shns. |

Yet another installment on the PCP Fall 97 project, 11/16/97 represents my first attempt at making shn files or md5 sums. The discs are flawless as far as my ears can tell, except for some reason the track split between Scent of a Mule and Poor heart actually comes in at the end of the "mule duel". Scent finishes out and Poor Heart is complete. As my editing skills (and editing software) are lacking, I decided to let everyone deal with this how they want to. I have just left it the way it is. Make sure to email me at the address above if you find anything that isn't kosher. I have listened to both discs (made from unshortening the shn files I created) and everything seems ok, md5's as well check out. Enjoy the show.

Fall 1998 AUD
Notes: Fade In/Out done in Soundforge. I also added a bit of leader
from another source to piper(the start of set 2) because a couple notes
of piper were missed on the master. So @ 52 seconds into piper you hear
the splice. The notes are correct but you hear the difference from being
way back in the tapers section to fob. So the spliced source for the first 52
seconds of crowd noise before piper is Schoeps MK41/CMC6>SX-M2>DAP1
(in tapers section). Thanks to mikey for the smokin tapes.
enjoy~
Compiled 6-18-01 (edlhubermj18@mail.uww.edu)
=========================================================
NOTE: I received these .shns from the person who converted them originally (edlhubermj18@mail.uww.edu), and found, using shntool, that 3 tracks were not cut on sector boundaries. They were:
d1t09
d2t01
d3t04
d2t01 definitely had to be fixed, as it caused a nasty click during the transition from d2t01 to d2t02 when listening to the audio on a CDR burned in DAO mode. d1t09 and d3t04 were fixed for good measure as well; whenever shows start to be put on new media (DVD-R?) and are subject to new tracking, this show can be sequenced in any way desired without any problems.
Original sector boundary errors found using:
SHNTOOL version 1.01
Copyright 2001 Jason Jordan (shnutils@freeshell.org)
.shn utilities page: http://shnutils.freeshell.org/
After sector boundaries were fixed, I converted back to SHNv3 from .wav using MKWact, and renamed all files back to their original filenames, removing the '-fixed' appended to each file by shntool, and redid the .md5s to match the new files (this is the only set of .shns from this show *from this new DAT source* that is available, so having the '-fixed' indicator wasn't necessary; the .shns with errors were never circulated before being fixed).
Log info from shntool output is provided in the file ph98-08-01fob_sector_issues.txt.
RECORDING COMMENTS: Aside from what is written above about the lead-in source spliced for Piper (d2t01; a very minor portion was missing from this FOB source), there is only one questionable noise I can hear on this show after about 4 listens. At 1:39 of d2t08 (Brian and Robert), there is a pop in the left channel. I am 99.9% sure it is a balloon pop, and not a digital error.
What does that mean? This show is clean! Please circulate if you enjoy this new FOB source of this great show over any others already out there!

They do sound like they could be digital skips, but they are not. These are

When Cliff called me the next morning and told me about the show, one of the
first things he mentioned (after the setlist and the recording) was all the
pa bombs that kept happening. Paul was not on the knobs on 7/4...

Note: I received this in audio (no shns, I was told). It sounds pretty good, but had VERY loud clapping and by badly tracked. I pieced the show back together and retracked using my common sense. I then lower the DBs on the loud clapping segments to make for a smoother listen. All digital editing was done with Cool Edit Pro. I think this show sound great in contrast to the difficult nature of capturing an orchestral performance. |

Notes: Vida Blue is Page McConnell of Phish, Oteil Burbridge of the Allman Brothers Band, and Russell Batiste of the Funky Meters. Midnight was celebrated with KISS-like pyrotechnics and a balloon drop. Page did not play on "America the Beautiful"; Oteil dedicated the song to New York because "they'd been through a lot this year." "Light Up or Leave Me Alone" featured Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon of Phish, both playing Languedoc guitars (Mike on a new one recently built for him by Paul, and Trey on the older, butterscotch colored one of his). Phish lighting director Chris Kuroda manned the light board, and Phish soundman Paul Languedoc served as front- of-house engineer. Bullfrog and Kid Koala opened. |
