[2] First known performance
[3] First known Phish performance; Jeff on vocals.
[4] Marc Daubert on percussion.
The setlist for this show might be incomplete, as the recordings that circulate cut during Drums. Marc Daubert made a guest appearance on percussion. This show featured the first known performance of Camel Walk and the first known Phish performances of Wild Child, Bertha, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Eyes of the World, and Whipping Post (which featured Jeff on vocals). CYHMK included a St. Stephen tease. Copies of this performance often circulate with the incorrect date of November 3, 1983. Also, it is possible that this show was actually on Friday, November 2, 1984, as a photo of a flyer for a show on “11/2†was printed in The Phish Book. |

[6] First known performance; Dude of Life on vocals.
Skippy and Fluffhead featured The Dude of Life on vocals. The jam after Camel Walk may have been Back Porch Boogie Blues. Spanish Flea included an introduction of the band members. Don’t Want You No More was not performed in its entirety, as it lacked the final lyrics. The lengthy percussion jam featured a guest appearance from Marc Daubert. Mike recalls that there were approximately 200 people in the audience. This gig featured the first known version of Slave to the Traffic Light and Fluffhead, the first known Phish versions of Fire, Don't Want You No More, Cities, and Skippy the Wondermouse, and the only known Phish version of Spanish Flea. This performance was on the upstairs level of Nectar's. |

This show was an African Relief benefit for OXFAM. Fire Up the Ganja (which is the song Fire on the Mountain with different lyrics) featured Bobby Hackney and Jah Roy of the band Lambsbread on vocals. This setlist is incomplete and featured the first known version of Anarchy and first known Phish version of Fire Up the Ganja. This is the first known version of Skippy to have McGrupp lyrics. (This song was called Skippy by the band at this time, even though it eventually became McGrupp.)
http://phish.com/tours/dates/mon-1985-03-04-hunts
This was Phish’s 13th show, an African Relief Benefit for OXFAM dance party that was connected to a WRUV-FM Valentine’s Day Radiothon with a fund-raising goal of $13,993.00. Local reggae band Lambsbread was supposed to play too but they canceled so members of Lambsbread performed with Phish. This show featured the 1st public performance of Anarchy, which is an extremely short punk rock spoof. Fire On The Mountain was performed with Bobby Hackney and Jah Roy from Lambsbread, who sung the lyrics “Fire up the Ganjaâ€. In Mike’s words, Jah Roy was the other singer from Lambsbread (in addition to Bobby) with huge dreadlocks who did the authentic Jamaican dub style. While the band still referred to the song as Skippy The Wondermouse, this version of Skippy was the 1st to contain the narrated lyrics to McGrupp And The Watchful Hosemasters, which Tom had recently sent to Trey. Tapes of this performance, sometimes combined with parts of 5/3/85, were often mislabeled 4/19/85 or 5/19/85. |

[4] First known Phish performance.
This show was performed at the Last Day Party on UVM’s Redstone campus. It marked Page’s debut with the band, as he sat in during portions of the third set. In fact, Big Leg Emma was preceded by an announcement from Trey that “our friend Page, from Goddard, will sit in later.†Bring it On Home featured Bobby Brown on harmonica and Whipping Post featured Jeff on vocals. McGrupp was dedicated to Fish. Makisupa featured a reggae jam. This show featured the only known Phish performances of Bring It On Home and The Other One. |

[2] First known public version.
[3] Lyric referenced pumpkin pie.
This show contained the first known version of Harry Hood and the first known public version of Dog Log. Trey remarked during the intro to Hood that "this one is a story of the man who lives directly across the street from us right now." (The house on King Street where Trey, Fish, and Brian Long lived was across the street from the Hood factory.) Slave was dedicated to “Brickle.†Trey’s humorous comments about being “back on Planet Earth†were in reference to the events at Goddard on October 26. Alumni had a reference to pumpkin pie. This setlist is likely incomplete.
This show was part of New Music Night at Hunt’s. Oblique Wave also played. This show featured the 1st known performances of Harry Hood. During the Introduction of the band that preceded Harry Hood, Trey said “We hope you’re ready to danceâ€. He explained that this was the story of the man who lives across the street, Harry Hood. It is the story of him going to the beaches of Greece, which he explained came about when his friend Brian put a carton of Hood milk in the refrigerator and said HARRY…HARRY…â€. As the song ended, somebody (maybe Fish) said that they’re going to get Hood to sponsor them someday. During Possum, Fish made some reference to the television show “BJ and the Bearâ€. Before Slave To The Traffic Light, Trey thanked anybody who was at Goddard last week and dedicated the song to a friend of his named Brickle (?). While the band was tuning before I Wish, Trey announced they were going to play a dance song – a Stevie Wonder cover. Fish quipped that “hippies have a right to dance too.†This was the 1st and only known Revival (Dickie Betts cover) played by Phish. Before Prep School Hippie, someone (likely Fish) said they called themselves Phish for no good reason. He asked the crowd to give them “a good reason to call themselves Phishâ€. |

This list for Set II is likely incomplete, as the only recording that circulates fades in and out at points. The “Whipping Post Jam†fades in after Mike’s Song on the recording that circulates. This “Jam†contained jams reminiscent of The Grateful Dead’s The Other One and Dark Star. It also featured Norwegian Wood teases from Mike, and a jam reminiscent of the early intro to Harry Hood. Antelope fades in after the “Whipping Post Jam†fades out. The complete lists for Sets I (featuring the first known Phish performance of Wild Thing) and II are not known, although Mike has referenced the first set Wild Thing in interviews and in The Phish Book. |

[2] "It's alright" quotes from Trey.
[3] Jeff Holdsworth on slide guitar.
[4] First known Phish performance. With Zenzilé Madikinea.
This show was an African National Congress Benefit featuring Phish and South African dub poet Zenzilé Madikinea. Antelope featured Jeff Holdsworth on slide guitar. Russ Flanagan sat in on fiddle for parts of this show. Alumni was played by request. Letter to Jimmy Page contained quotes from Trey of "It's alright" before eventually returning to Alumni. Some recordings erroneously note that this show was a double-bill with The Joneses. This show contained the first known version of You Enjoy Myself, although it is possible that the correct debut was on 2/1/85, and the first known performances of Zenzilé's pieces (all with Phish) Tonight, The Pendulum, Babylon is Burning, and Dec 1661. The first set of this show is identical to what is listed for 2/1/85. The setlist for 2/1/85 is possibly incorrect.
This show was an African National Congress Benefit featuring Phish and South African dub poet Zenzile. Admission was $4. For set II, Phish accmopanied Zenzile for his African rhythmic chants and rap. It’s worth noting that this show corresponds to the setlist of 2/1/85 Doolin’s and may indeed be the correct date of that show (meaning there was no 2/1/85 Doolin’s show or at least that this set I setlist was mis-attributed to that gig). If that is true, then this is the 1st known public performance of You Enjoy Myself. This show also marked the 1st known performances of Zenzile’s pieces – all performed with Phish – Tonight, The Pendulum, Babylon Is Burning and Dec 1661. Russ Flanagan sat in on fiddle for parts of this show. |

[4] Spoken in Dylan-esque fashion.
[5] First known Phish performance; with The Joneses.
This show was billed as Hunt’s Festival of Fools. Phish and The Joneses switched off for 45-minute sets; the two bands performed the encore together. The Pendulum, which was a recital of revolutionary poetry, featured guest Zenzilé Madikinea. This gig contained the first known versions of AC/DC Bag and Icculus, the first known Phish version of Have Mercy, and the only known Phish performances of Help on the Way, Slipknot and Not Fade Away. McGrupp was spoken in a Dylan-esque fashion, in keeping with Trey’s jokes about Phish being the “Dylan Band.â€
This show, known as Hunt’s Festival Of Fools, was presented by the Moodsters. Admission was $2. The Joneses also played, switching off sets so the lineup went Phish, The Joneses, Phish, The Joneses. Pendulum featured Zenzile on vocals. This show yielded the 1st known performances of AC/DC Bag, Have Mercy (The Mighty Diamonds cover) and Icculus and the 1st and only known performances of Help On The Way and Slipknot! (Grateful Dead covers) as well as Not Fade Away (Buddy Holly cover). After Dave’s Energy Guide, Trey announced they were “The Bob Dylan Bandâ€. McGrupp was narrated rather than sung. Alumni Blues > Letter To Jimmy Page > Alumni Blues included special guest Jim Tasse from The Joneses. The Encore, Not Fade Away, integrated members of The Joneses in a “Monsters Of Guitar Jam†featuring all the Joneses guitarists (Jim Tasse, Tim “TJ†Johnston and John Carlin) plus Mark Jensen on percussion. |

The third set listing is incomplete; recordings that circulate have cuts before Cantaloupe. The Clod encore began with an impromptu kazoo solo from Mike. This show contained the first known versions of many Phish songs, including Lushington, Shaggy Dog, Roll Like a Cantaloupe, Sanity, and Clod, as well as the first known Phish versions of Skin It Back, Peaches, Swing Low, and Mustang Sally. [5] Freestyle reggae rapping from Trey.
[6] Unfinished.
This show is mislabeled on many recordings as 8/27/87. Teases were everywhere, including a Trench Town Rock quote from Trey before Hood, a Whipping Post tease from Fish and a Jingle Jangle Jingle tease from Trey after HYHU, a full band Sneakin' Sally tease before Golgi, a Smoke on the Water tease after Sparks, La Bamba lyrics in the Low Rider Jam, as well as a full band HYHU tease and a Slipknot! tease from Trey before McGrupp. Harpua was played by request and was restarted after the opening lyric, which was repeated. The intro to Sparks was extended while Fish relieved himself. McGrupp was introduced as "The Gala Event." The third set was heavy on jamming and light on lyrics. Trey delivered some freestyle reggae rapping before and during the Makisupa Jam that some fans have labeled the “Mouse House Rap.†Mike's included a DEG tease from Trey. David Bowie contained a Tom Sawyer tease and was unfinished. This show contained the first known performances of Bundle of Joy and BBFCFM and the first known Phish performance of HYHU. |

After Dear Mrs. Reagan, Trey introduced "Alex," a new waitress at Nectar's. I Didn't know featured Fish on trombone. Happy Birthday was dedicated to Trey's sister Kristy, who was running lights for the show, "Roz," and "Meg." He brought Kristy, "Roz," and Del Martin (because "Meg" was not there) on stage. This show featured the first known Phish performance of Phase Dance. Mockingbird also made its debut at this show and was played without Forbin’s. Before Whipping Post, Trey introduced Lizards as "Where Have All the Lizards Gone?" Suzy was stopped in its intro with Trey jokingly saying "good night" before restarting the song. Trey teased DEG in Good Times Bad Times. |

| 02/20/88 | , ATO Fraternity House, St. Lawrence Univ., Canton | cd-r | 3 | This show was an ATO Pledge Party and previously circulated as September 27, 1987. Trey teased Who Knows in Fire and DEG in Whipping Post. There was a third set to this show but copies do not circulate and no list is known. Some copies of this show in circulation are incomplete and out of order. These copies are usually mislabeled as “Pledge Party, Burlington, VT.†Other copies circulate with the complete recording (except for BBFCFM) but have Slave before Bowie; this order is incorrect. Good Times Bad Times, Slave to the Traffic Light, and Big Black Furry Creature From Mars were shot from a video by (or for) Mike. It is unclear whether BBFCFM closed the set or was the encore because a recording of it does not circulate.
Setlist incomplete. A third set was played.
Notes from Scott Judd, a member of the ATO Fraternity House where this show was performed:
This performance has circulated dated 09/27/87. Charlie Dirksen from Phish.net suggested that various musical elements of this show, along with the presence of a few videos in the band's archive, almost certainly dated this show to Feb 20, 1988. With this information, along with input from several friends who were also in attendance, we concluded with a high degree of certainty that 2/20/88 is the correct date, replacing the originally listed date of 9/27/87.
The presence of Phase Dance (Pat Metheny) was a key distinguishing factor in correcting the date, as this song was only performed by Phish four times, all in Feb. 1988. Charlie also noted that this particular arrangement of Fluffhead is consistent with the revised date, and would NOT have been consistent with Sept. '87 renditions.
Given the corrected date of 2/20/88, prior notes about this tape containing the first ever version of I Didn't Know have been removed.
Charlie Dirksen tells me the band's archive contains as-yet-unseen video of Good Times Bad Times, Slave to the Traffic Light, and BBFCM from this show, presumably shot with Mike Gordon's personal video camera. BBFCM does not appear on any circulating recordings, but is vaguely recollected to have come from a short third set on this date.
This was one of Phish's first shows outside of Vermont. Our fraternity (ATO), having completely exhausted the limited stock of quality area bands at prior events, hired Phish with no prior knowledge of their music, not even so much as a demo, based on a recommendation from a friend-of-a-friend in Burlington, VT. I had the good fortune of assisting the band with load-in and setup, which resulted in a private performance of Golgi Aparatus during soundcheck. Needless to say I was mightily impressed, and spent much of my evening spreading the word to friends about the upcoming show. |

| 10/31/94 | , Glens Falls Civic Center, Glens Falls | cd-r | 3 | [1] Vibration of Death; "The Vibration of Death is gone" replaced the usual "The storm is gone."
[2] Phish debut.
[3] Phish debut; lyrics changed to "I told you 'bout Guyute the pig."
[4] Phish debut; instrumental.
[5] Phish debut; ended with band singing "I've got blisters on my fingers" a cappella to the tune of Back In My Hometown.
[6] Phish debut; lyrics changed to reference "Cactus."
[7] Phish debut. Fish on vacuum.
[8] Phish debut. He Ent to the Bog was played on a tape in the background. Fish on vacuum.
Trey teased Buried Alive in Divided Sky. Harpua included the Vibrations of Life and Death. Jimmy decided to put on his favorite album Barney's Greatest Hits, but turned his turntable on the wrong way and started playing it backwards. Fish then proceeded to sing a verse of War Pigs (with the band playing the song as well. Trey subsequently quoted I Love You (a.k.a. the theme to Barney & Friends) before Harpua resumed. Poster was swallowed up into the earth by the Vibration of Death. "The Vibration of Death is gone" replaced the usual "The storm is gone." Prior to the Vibration of Life, Wilson was teased and quoted and Page teased Call to the Post. A Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon tease (the heartbeats from Speak to Me) was pumped through the P.A. at the beginning of the second set. The second set "musical costume" was The Beatles' The Beatles (also known as The White Album) and was selected via fan vote. All of the White Album songs, other than Piggies, were Phish debuts, although Ob La Di, Ob La Da had been jammed or teased on many occasions. Glass Onion's lyrics were changed to "I told you 'bout Guyute the pig." Piggies was played for the first time since November 14, 1985 (884 shows). HYHU was teased prior to Why Don't We Do It in the Road. Birthday wasn’t sung; Page and Mike noodled a bit while Fish presented a birthday cake to Brad Sands, who accepted it while wearing a Jon Fishman dress. Helter Skelter ended with the band singing "I've got blisters on my fingers" a cappella to the tune of Back In My Hometown. Honey Pie's lyrics were changed to reference "Cactus." Cry Baby Cry ended with Fish on vacuum with Revolution 9 segueing out of the vacuum solo. The background tape playing along with Revolution 9 was Mike’s composition He Ent to the Bog from Phish’s White Tape. The song ended with Fish stark naked and running around while the band blew bubbles and waved. Good Night was taped from the album and closed the second set. The third set began with a Custard Pie tease from Trey and an Overture tease from Page, while Bowie contained a Gilligan's Island theme tease from Mike and Antelope's intro contained a Stash tease from Trey. The Costume Contest contained a "Charge!" tease from Page. This show was officially released as Live Phish 13. The soundcheck's Jam was released as an iTunes bonus track called "Glen Falls Soundcheck Jam" and contained a Frankenstein tease from Mike and a May The Force Be With You (The Force Theme from Star Wars) tease from Trey. The Poor Heart and Dog Log in the soundcheck were slow versions. |

Encore Notes: Most of Harpua had Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde from Primus. After the opening, Les did a rap about a weed or something like that. Then more Harpua and the Jimmy story (Jimmy and Poster Nutbag going to Vegas). They stop and camp. At the campsite, they start yodeling, at which point John McEuen, Heather and Anamiekl August did a country/yodel tune. The story continues, Jimmy and Poster meet up with four Elvis' on the edge of Las Vegas and have a duel. The four Elvis's sing the first few verses of "Suspicious Minds" and then Fishman continues. Jimmy is victorious. Then the dog and cat fight occurs. Harpua wins and the song finishes. At some point everyone returns and then Brian Mantia, the drummer for Primus, shows up for "Suzy Greenberg." "Suzie Q" is lead by one of the Elvis'. |

* - Includes Cities Jam
^ - Includes Art Jam. The band members take turns painting large designs at the side of the stage. Then, the crowd carries the pieces of this design to the side of the venue where it is assembled and hoisted for eveyone to see onto a tower. This wood tower is tall and covered in painted plywood and has been built during the two shows. As Harry Hood goes into the jam, Trey again asks Chris Kuroda to turn the lights off and the band jams while the front section of the crowd has a gigantic Glow Stick War. Trey tells the crowd at the end of the Jam to "go and get more of those, because that was cool."
# - The entire assembled art design is burned. |

He then encouraged people to get naked and make passionate love, but again no one did. | 12/31/02 | , Madison Square Garden, New York | cd-r | 3 | Pre-show music on the PA included the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme, "Reunited," "The Boys are Back in Town," and "Foreplay/Long Time."
* Preceeded by footage from the movie "Castaway" on the jumbotron screens on the scoreboard (scenes in which Tom Hanks's character is yelling for his befriended volleyball named "Wilson"); with 'Tom Hanks' (actually Page's brother, Steve McConnell) on vocals for the "Blat Boom..." part.
** During "Seven Below" a disco ball was lowered from within the scoreboard and it began snowing on stage; several dancers in white with blinking light "stick figure skeletons", dressed as snow creatures (with a vaguely "winter/forest kingdom" fantasy motif, including white costumes with fur and some horned helmets) came out and began circling the band on stage before moving off into the crowd - while in the crowd several grew into large snow angels by adding stilts to their costumes; midway during the song snow began falling on the fans on the floor from a pair of snowmaking rigs on the right and left sides of the scoreboard above the floor; shortly before midnight, the snow angels began shining small spotlights around the crowd, appearing similar to search lights
*** At midnight, pyrotechnics spiraled around and behind the stage (some coming from the snowmaking rigs) and enormous white balloons with snow designs were dropped onto the floor.
