COMMENTS: Early Show. There is no tape of this show currently in circulation as of
(1/01). There is a bogus tape mislabeled with this date that is actually a bad partial copy
of 3/2/69 first set but not this one. Recorded by Bear (Owsley) on a "Concord" cassette deck
model unknown...laid on an Ampex 90-minute cassette. Restoration & Preservation by
Rob Eaton. Playback on a Tascam 122 mk111 (azimuth adjusted) > db 926 a/d converter > db
3000 s sample rate converter (variable speed) > panasonic 3800 DAT @ 44.1 kHz By Rob Eaton,
DAT>HHb>CDR by Jim Wise. Rob Eaton's list reads this (4.5, 048min, Sbd, A0D0, Cass M->
Dat 0, 48k, Ampex C-90 Master Cass/no dolby->3800 x 0). Yes these disks I ripped with EAC
are the actual CDRS that Jim Wise made. D1t01(Dark Star) Pops @ :20 both channels removed,
Pop @ :54 both channels removed, Pop @ 1:01 both channels removed. D1t04(Lovelight) Digi
Zaps @ 1:46 filtered , Also from 1:49-1:53 filtered as well no more zaps present, Nasty pops
from 7:45-7:50 on different channels at random deleted and replaced with opposite channel
the ones that were on both channels were filtered, At 7:48 a cut (some music is missing).
Well Enjoy!!

RECORDING 180 AUD & 180 SBD: The complete show, except the beginning of
Truckin' and the conclusion of Sugar Magnolia, in good AUD. (5/97) &
excellent SBD (4/00). Minor sound (& vocal loss) fluctuation occurs during the
start of the 1st song.

D1T5 Jack Straw ?Transformed into Silence the last 0.178, starting at
4:59.634 bad data.
D1T6 Row Jimmy ? Removed Pop at 0:08.013 for 0.089.
D2T7 Stella Blue Removed section at 8:09.357 for 0.065. There was a hideous pop
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? and pop removal didn't work well. ?I can't hear
anything missing.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Turned into silence errant section at end at 8:13.176 for
0.587.
D3T1 Trucking ? ?There is a cut/splice at 1:31, the last half of the verse and
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? half of the next verse is cut.
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? From 6:28-6:32 there is indeterminate noise, sounds like
it is on
? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? the board, and not a transfer or digital artifact.
Tracks 2,3 of drums came split, there is a small gap, no sense to put them
together.

Notes:
- There is a drop around the 45 minute mark of each set, causing the beginning of Stash and Sanity to be clipped.
This leads me to believe that this was from an analog master or perhaps an analog higher up in the chain caused these
- There was a gap at the beginning of I didn't know, Chalkdust, and Harry Hood but there was overlapping music on
both sides. I seamlessly edited these using Soundforge 4.5
- There was a second gap at the beginning of I didn't know that could not be fixed because no overlapping music
existed.

2. Drag this text file into the upper pane of the VCD.
This will include this file as a datafile on the CD, which is good for reference (it has no effect on DVD playback).
3. Drag the "Title Set 1.jpg" (or set 2) into the lower pane. This will insert that pictureas a title screen before the movie. Right-click, properties, and change delay to whateveryou like (5 seconds is good, certainly don't leave it as "infinite").
4. Drag the video MPG file into the lower pane. Let Nero verify the file (should take about10 minutes). Burn the disc.Note: Although the file size on Disc 2 is a bit large, it still fits on an 80min VCDbecause of the somewhat more relaxed error correction of this format, which frees morespace on the disc.
Disc I
Set I: Buried Alive > AC/DC Bag > Ghost# > Cities, Limb by Limb, Train Song^, Roggae,Maze##, Golgi Apparatus+
Disc II (needs an 80 minute CD)
Set II: Julius > Meat, Piper > Makisupa Policeman*, David Bowie > Loving Cup E: Possum
# Pause before segue into "Cities" (jam resumed right where it left off).
^ There is the small drop out that was on the DAT.
## Trey pauses (mid-jam) to thank crowd.
+ Trey plays the main riff in the wrong key for the first half of the song.
* With very mundane drum solo; with lyric "stink kind in my head...stink kind all over my bed"; with solos by both Page and Fish. |

@@ With Glowstick War
+ - After Tweezer Reprise, Trey explained that the band wanted to do something to combine ideas from The Clifford Ball and The Great Went,
going into detail about the band/fan artwork from last year, and
announced that the band would do a freeform ambient jam (lyric-less;
nearly an hour long; "in the Brian Eno style of ambient music"), surrounded
by candles that were made by the audience throughout the day. There were no lights used during the jam, the band using
only the light from the candles, which Trey explained is similar to the idea of what happens during a glow-stick war, with the light for the band coming from the fans. Because candles were placed around and througout the stage, Trey
explained that they were in fact playing in a "temple of fire" as the advertisements for summer tour shows announced.
After finishing the jam, the band picked up tiki torches, lit them using the candles on stage and lit a small stone (?) temple at the edge of the stage, which was left burning overnight and throughout the band's performance on Sunday

There are small gaps between some of the tracks that are not TAO errors; perhaps they are sector boundaries? Recording sounds perfectly fine except for gaps. |
