To me it captures the true spirit of Phish. It happened as we were walking to the bus to leave the venue. somebody said play us one and we said sure and the roadies got our stuff. i was already holding my banjo which probably started the whole thing. I was on tour with them to teach them bluegrass and had been playing with them on stage some at night. Hoist was being released at the time and i actually played with them on that material at night as well as the bgrass set. though they really didn't know bgrass and had just been playing for a short while, this truly captured the spirit of the music because of their openess, talent, and what i call that "wonderful phish curiosity". i was touched to hear this because when you boil it all down this is what it's all about. the people just want to hear the music and truly i didn't wanna leave. you can hear the joy. i lead the jam as phish had never really done that before. when we got on the bus they were so happy that we did it and i think they felt, maybe for the first time, the true spirit of what bgrass and folk music is all about. the jam turned out to be the most important thing that i taught them. thanks for sharing it. i am touched. Truly, "rev" Jeff Mosier Blueground Undergrass www.bluegroundundergrass.com
12/30/94 Ed Sullivan Theater .shn 2 A This source is a purported SBD/Aud matrix > cass/0 > DAT (as noted at http://www.freedumb.net/sbd/sbdlist.html), however this lineage is questionable. There is a cut at 45:07 in the first set, however this sounds like a DAT cut or digi dropout, as opposed to an analog tape flip (I left this cut as it existed from the original DAE, rather than editing, because it occurs during a song (Scent of a Mule). Another reason I question the analog generation is because there is zero perceptible analog hiss anywhere in this recording. Also, analog tapes tend to stretch as they are used, and people usually get between 46 and 48 minutes per side of a 90 minute tape. 45:07 is considered an odd place for an analog flip to occur. Also, there is no noticeable cut at around the 90 minute mark in the show (where the next tape flip should occur). As for my skepticism for the SBD/AUD matrix, there are moments when I would swear this source is true, however the noticeable echo and reverb normally associated with audience tapes from indoor arenas (MSG in this case) is quite noticible. If this is not an SBD/Aud Matrix, this source would likely be an FOB, since the audio presence is very "up front." There is a well circulated FOB Schoeps CMC3/mk4 source from 12/29/94. This 12/30/94 source may very well be from the same rig and taper, however this is pure speculation.

10/31/97 State Theatre .shn 1 A * This show copy went through major surgery. Disc 1 originally ended with the first half of Bob's and Disc 2 began with the beginning of Bob's. I pasted Disc 2 to the end of Disc 1 and removed the extra portion of Bob's from Disc 1. Now the show was returned to it's original 85 minute state. Next, The beginning of the show was extremely loud with a noticeable level drop mid-way in Tweekers. Using Cool Edit's Amplify feature, I turned that down 20% and it matches perfectly. Lastly, this show copy went through 2 rounds of the Cool Edit's Noise Reduction Feature to remove the analog gens. Now the hiss is virtually unnoticeable. I grade this remastered show copy "A" for the following reasons: 1. It sounds pretty damn good. 2. It's not Phish! 3. Look at the setlist! 4. There is not another copy out there to my knowledge. 5. It is complete and flawless.. meaning, no pauses, pops, clicks, or analog flipping issues. Enjoy! Linda Webster www.phishhook.com/lists/philandlinda

11/12/95 The Mountain Sun Pub and Brewery .shn 1 A SHOW NOTES: This is good early cheese. It is interesting to hear the band explain the history of many of the songs that they play. SEED NOTES: I do not believe that this is a complete show. To my knowledge this is all that circulates. No setlist databases show any additional songs, and no people that have this show posted on db.etree.org or Phishhook note any additional songs. To my knowledge all copies of this show have the cuts denoted above by //. My speculation is that this show was originally recorded on a 90min analog tape. The cut in Little hands occurs at approximately 46:00 which is about where the tape would run out. I used this cut to create the break between disc 1 & 2. You will notice that disc 2 times out to approximately 45:00 as well. The band also mentions that, "we got that on tape" after finishing the Chicken. If anyone has any additional information please let me know. I spliced blackberry blossom and legends together in order to create a clean break at the end of disc 1. This splice is unnoticeable. Fades were added at the beginning and end of each disc in an attempt to soften the intros and cuts. Color covers for this show are also available. Enjoy the moldy cheese! -Brian
