I use a computer burner, and "Exact Audio Copy" to extract, and burn "Disc At Once", please do the same. Please use good quality cdrs, I use Fuji. Please no generics. If a show say's CDR/SHN I have both types for trade if the the SHN uses less discs it is noted with a dash and QTY. Ratings refer to the overall quality of the recording, Any problems that I have noticed are listed in the Details. If you are unhappy with any show you get from me or if there is a problem let me know and I will replace it I will do B&P's. Trade them fast; I burn and ship 1st class and unless I am buried, they go the next day! Keep in touch; Email is cheap and it takes the stress out of this and makes it more fun! My full list is still on phishhook under MATTZS. Please check it out. http://www.phishhook.com/lists/MATTZS And above all else, enjoy life! Matt |

It was broadcast on WNEW in New York city, and it sounds incredible, probably as good as any official release. Rare versions of Kitty's Back and Meeting Across the River only add to the desireability of this show. Hearing Sandy and knowing hundreds of people along the Jesey Shore were listening to the broadcast as it happened is almost magical. During the broadcast, you couldn't walk anywhere on the Rutgers University campus and not hear this show.
| 01/31/98 | Count Basie Theatre | CDR | 3 | A | January 31, 1998 - Count Basie Theatre, Red Bank, NJ With Jon Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, Little Steven, and Others An amazing, magical night, as the biggest names in Jersey Shore rock and roll joined together for a benefit concert at a small theatre. All the performers exchanged vocals on each others' songs, leading to some fun songs. The show was significant for Springsteen fans, as it came at a time when some suspected Bruce had forgotten what his Fender looked like after the long solo acoustic tour. Check out the Come Together concert section. This show is available from a soundboard recording from the fan-produced Fakida label as "Blood on Blood." On Saturday, January 31, 1998, Bruce Springsteen joined Jon Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny, Little Steven, Bobby Bandiera, Richie Sambora, Tico Torres, Max Weinberg, and many others to raise money for the family of slain Long Branch (NJ) police officer Patrick King. E: Brokedown Palace sound is generally a bit muddy, some hiss Pigpen's voice is almost inaudible at times and sometimes distortion & pops from Keith's piano pick-up, the best & most complete version currently in circulation a lot of minor anomalies (mainly clicks) throughout discs 1 + 2 d3t03: tape warble @18:47-18:52, sounds like a master cassette flaw d1t06: very beginning is missing (a few seconds worth) this show was treed on the Eurotraders list by Hanno Bunjes a while ago. i received his version, too, and to my surprise found that it sounded flatter and muddier than my old hissy unknown-gen tapes of the show. therefore, i sent both Hanno?s discs and my tapes to Bill Giles for comparison and Bill told me that in his opinion, the tapes sounded brighter because someone had boosted the high range, whereas the discs sounded like someone had done a bad "remastering" job on them. However, as Hanno got his discs from Jeff Tiedrich who says the discs were made from cassette masters found in Betty's famous storage locker, that cannot possibly be the case. Anyway, Bill proceeded to brighten the sound of the discs using SoundForge, and collected some 3-4 other versions of the show meanwhile, for comparison. Hanno?s (tidied up) version turned out to be the best one he had and i in turn sent a copy of that to Glenn Gillis in the States, who is running a tree of the show on the CDead list right now. Glenn had yet another version of 4-11-72 to compare Bill?s remaster to and told me, Bill?s version sounded "MUCH better" than what he had had previously. in short: even if Bill is not suffiently satisfied to call this "remastered" or give it his "Just About Exactly Perfect Productions" label, this seems to be the best version in circulation now and thus merits another distribution :) Bill Giles remastering notes: "What do you do with an excellent concert that circulates digitally on muddy CD only and for which cassette copies, while superficially brighter, carry a lot of noise and distortion? Frustrating. I suspect the CD's lack of edge is the result of an uninspired noise reduction job [which makes the MC>D>CD lineage questionable]. I've simply tried to brighten it up by re-equalisation. I've also rebalanced the tracks (the right track was relatively overweight) and attenuated a few glitches. It ain't great, but it's definitely better. From the master disc, the opening notes of Big Boss Man are missing, and the start of Good Lovin' is an AUD patch; and there are some crackles, particularly in Brown-Eyed Women and Truckin', and a number of drop-outs and wobbles throughout the concert. I would not describe it as 'remastered' - just 'tidied up'. I guess linage should read: MR>??>CDR>Sound Forge 4.5>CDR" | ||

Sugar Magnolia 9:33 Total time: 76:21 Jim Powell's notes: There are conflicting reports whether the SBD master is on cassettes or reels, but it sounds like it would have to be reels. The last 26 seconds of Here Comes Sunshine is missing on our copy of the SBD and is patched in using an AUD master from a cassette copy of unknown low generation. 22 seconds in Eyes Of The World are patched from this AUD source also. The 22-second cut in Eyes looks like a cassette tape flip introduced when the reels were transcribed to 1st gen cassette. The missing conclusion of Here Comes Sunshine is harder to account for on this hypothesis, but there seems a reasonable chance that both missing segments are intact on the master reels. Meanwhile, this tree. First set highlights include TLEO, Row Jimmy, GSET and China Cat >Rider. The Here Comes Sunshine times almost 16 minutes, is the longest known on circulating tape and probably the best. The Dark Star is the third longest known at 43:28, and one of the all time best. It is the fraternal twin of 11/11/73. Dave Greenberg did the patches. David Gans supplied DATs of the 1st gen cassette SBD and Jim Powell instigated the project, supplied the AUD cassette used to patch the SBD's defects, and wrote this note.

Sweet Baby James Time: 79:10 Source: KBFH master reels > dat > cdr > EAC > Sound Forge 6.0 > CD Wave > 1shn/1cdr Remastered by ALS, March 2003 Comments: James Taylor performed at Carnegie Hall on May 26th and May 27th in 1974. These two shows were probably the final two shows of JT's four-week U.S. tour to promote "Walking Man." The DIR Concert Network had permission to tape both shows and it is not clear whether this version represents one of the shows or a combination of both shows. My gut feeling is that it is probably a combination of both shows. KBFH broadcasted this version of the show on June 30, 1974. This version is superior in every way to the hugely popular and widely circulated "Carnegie Hall" KTS bootleg. The overall sound quality is stunning, crystal clear stereo. The soft songs are perfect, although the loud songs are so full the sound nearly distorts. The KTS bootleg was probably sourced from a second or third generation cassette. The addition of the six songs not included on the KTS bootleg dramatically changes the flow of the show. KTS would have you believe that JT jumped from "Fire and Rain" to "Mockingbird." Not so. JT beautifully built the show to a peak culminating with Carly's arrival just after the start of "Mockingbird." For JT fans this version is essential. Some minor editing was necessary to best represent the original concert experience from the perspective of the audience. I edited out the KBFH announcements. I edited in several "soft endings" where the audience applause would have otherwise abruptly ended (due to harsh KBFH edits or announcements). No edits were made to the music or stage banter.

| 02/14/87 | The Scream | CDR | 1 | A- | slight gaps last 5 tracks pops between tracks 1-3 Jane's Addiction, Rock City Angels, LA fashion show, Scream 2/14/87 There's a reason for this Jane's Addiction's ascendancy in the local constellations of Rockhalla: They're one great band. They've been compared to Led Zeppelin in the past, but to do so now would be selling them short-they cut through the genres and cut out the bullshit, breaking down the barriers and forcefully reuniting you with your primitive self. This couldn't be said about the opening band Rock City Angels. Though they play some good ol' "get 'em drunk and kick 'em in the gutter" AC/DC-inspired rock and roll, it was all by rote and on the whole unconvincing. Tired! Maybe they were just worn out by the LA Fashion Show presented by "Ramp Tramp" and featuring gorgeous gloomsters displaying fur, feathers, thighs, and breast-it was like Thanks-giving at Bob Guccinone's. With these beautiful models mingling with the crowd, this turned out to be one exotic, erotic Valentine's Day night at the Scream. --S.C. Frank Rocker's Report, LA weekly 2/20-26/87 | |

Only mono recording because Dano and friend were able to tap into a line feed until caught during late acoustic set where they had to stop abruptly. From Dan Cole's collection of JGB cassettes. He was using a Sony D5 recorder at the time to record his Master Cassette from the line feed. I recorded directly from his master tape to my computer using Cool Edit, divided the tracks using CD Wave and then converted to SHN before recording my copy onto cd. Dan had this to say about recording this show: "JGB Lunt-Fontanne Once again I headed to New York City without any tickets. I was waiting online for tickets opening night when I noticed a rather attractive lady walking out of the venue. (starting to sound a bit like a penthouse letter all of a sudden, yeah? not that i've ever read those of course... mike) I approached her and asked her if she knew if there were going to be any tickets on sale. She told me that she was a friend of Jerry's and that she would be coming out with Jerry's unclaimed comp tickets before each show. I told her that I was in town for the duration and needed tickets for each show. She said she this wasn't a problem and that she would give me first crack at any extras. This was really cool because every seat she had was either a box seat or in the first 3 rows. The first nights stealth taping went real well, we had enough people around us to conceal everything. Jerry and the venue had a no tolerance taping policy for these shows anticipating a future album release. We did notice about a dozen tapers get kicked out the first night. The Board Tapes The theater had a sitting room downstairs that had speakers set up. I had noticed some tapers hanging out downstairs who had spliced into the speaker wires. They were sending the amplified signals straight into their decks. It was from these guys that the 10-17-87 tapes came from. On the afternoon of the 21st I tried this method myself and walked away with a pretty good tape. The evening of the 21st we met up with the guys who made the tapes from the 17th and we all patched together into the speaker wires. About 3/4 of the way through the first set we noticed Bill Graham checking out the speaker wires and headed directly for us. I have never seen so many tapers scramble so fast. I grabbed my deck and headed upstairs and started dancing with the crowd hanging out in the back. Meanwhile, the Goon Squad had grabbed my buddy Rob and were dragging him upstairs towards the door to be kicked out. This was rather sad because it was Rob's Birthday. I didn't see Rob again until the second song of the second set. He returned with an incredible story about how had climbed up to a ventilation chute, slid down an air shaft into the underground tunnels that connect the Broadway theaters. He went through a door into a hallway that led to Jerry's dressing room. They accidentally woke up a security guard who thought they had snuck in from the show and he proceeded to escort them back into the theater. Needless to say, the speakers downstairs were shut off for the remainder of the Lunt-Fontanne run.." Early show. Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band. "Both Montreux shows were recorded and EMI pressed white label acetates which included interviews with Gilmour in French. However, it it likely that these would have been intended as promotional tools, not for commercial release. 'Just Another 12 Bar' is a title shown on the acetate and is simply an improvised blues instrumental." The CD roio Smoking Blues is apparently from these acetates and has tracks from both performances This is a soundboard recording and well worth seeking out, but one can see why it was not released. Dave has one of his trademark laughing attacks during FOS. During the closing segment of Cymbaline (after the footsteps sequence) there is a particularly bad and prolonged problem with the sound system, causing Dave to burst into laughter once again. Roger introduces the show with a 'good morning' and introduces More Blues with remarks about it being 'too late for mind expanding music, so we'll play some music to calm down by,' presaging his words years later before the concluding encore of the infamous Montreal '77 concert. The crowd is quiet. VERY quiet. You simply don't hear anyone talking in the footsteps scene of "Cymbaline". Boy, what did I miss in those old days! After that, people come to life but don't spoil the record but instead give it a true feeling of being there. Incredible. The most remarkable song "Just Another Twelve Bar" is unique. It is faded in, so the beginning is missing, as is the ending of "More Blues". This version of "Embryo" is also a must for every fan. The Embryo: Best live version I have heard. Harder-edged than the Picnic/Works demo, but still has the other-worldly aspect I love. Dave does the Echoes seagulls here. The first blues is not just a simple blues. In fact it is not a blues, it is "Biding my Time" ! But as the lyrics are edited out, you just have the bridge part and coda. But it is really. After the piece The Man & The Journey shifted out of the Floyd repertoire, BMT was sometime played as a single piece with an extra long jam after the verse (listen to Water's gate LP) To me, this is the definitive 1970 RoIO! Of course, the BBC session (see "Libest Spacement Monitor") is also an excellent performance from that year (and with a little bit better sound quality). But, this time, we have a full concert. This is the best soundboard quality I ever heard for a concert from that year. It's particulary interesting to hear "Atom Heart Mother" without the brass section. BTW, the bass line of "Just Another Twelve Bar" is in fact the bass line from the second part of "Biding My Time". The song is slightly different. It's more bluesy, and there's no trombone.

| 11/23/70 | Anderson Theatre | cdr-audio | 1 | A | Traffic: "Woodwind", Anderson Theatre, Nov 23, 1970 Medicated Goo Pearly Queen Empty Pages Heaven is in your mind Forty Thousand Head Men John Barleycorn Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring Every Mothers Son Freedom Rider Shootout at the Fantasy Factory Low Spark The first nine songs were recorded @ The Andersen Theater in NYC 11/23/70. Personnel includes SW, CW, JC, and Rick Grech. This disc is most notable for the inclusion of Rick Grech to the group near the latter part of their '70 tour. Along with playing bass, he also lends a hand with lead guitar. The disc finds a group which had been on the road for awhile bolstered by a new member to add new flavors to their arrangements. For fans of the '70 Tour this disc offers a rare glimpse of Traffic as a quartet, with the additional freedom offered by another member. The disc starts with an Intro by none other than Bill Graham. Medicated Goo is a bit disjointed although Winwood is in fine voice, and plays a lead somewhat reminiscent of Stranger to Himself from earlier in the tour. A nice version of Pearly Queen is next, with Grech on hand to lend support to the rhythm section, Chris's organ fills break loose a bit to add some color. For fans of the LP version of Empty Pages, this concert version is among the best I've heard. Steve's vocals and keyboard work (sounds like a Fender Rhodes or RMI electric piano) are top notch and the band seem to catch a good groove with this tune. An updated version of Heaven replete with a lovely jam with Chris on sax playing off a vamping Winwood organ to finish off the song, adds new insight to some older material. A change of pace highlights the next tunes. Forty Thousand Headmen offers some lovely flute work by Chris, and John Barleycorn is welcome for a version not marred by lyrical snafus as found in other versions from earlier in the tour. Who Knows finds Grech trying his hand at lead and rhythm guitar. The addition of guitar adds greatly to the feel of the tune, fleshing it out, adding more texture and spark. Steve's soloing is especially tasty and the song offers good ensemble playing. Every Mothers Son is a highlight. Other versions of this song lacked the lovely guitar riff that accompanies the opening keyboard parts. Although the addition of guitar to the song is welcome, Grech is unable to provide the caliber of playing that was on the studio version. One wonders if the reason the live 11/70 release was shelved because the band wasn't comfortable with Grech's guitar work. (That was one of the reasons given for the non-release of the material recorded just days before this gig. See The "Lost" Live Album.) Nevertheless this is a wonderful version of Every Mothers Son, with great tension built up by the dual piano, organ combo and not to be missed. The disc end uneventfully, with a version of "Freedom Rider" without "Glad" preceding. Shootout and Low Spark from On the Road are added as filler. The sound quality of this disc is excellent. These tapes may have been from a "Grateful Dead" soundboard of this show. At any rate well beyond typical bootleg sound! Rating A Review by GA 1/2/98 Winwood and possibly Capaldi joined the Grateful Dead onstage at the Anderson theater in New York City on November 23, 1970. On one tape of the show, Winwood's performance apparently begins during the song "Hard To Handle" (Pigpen vocals), where he plays Hammond organ, followed by "Railroad Blues" (Jerry Garcia vocals), then a medley of "Not Fade Away" / "Goin' Down the Road Feelin' Bad" / "Not Fade Away". Steve attempts the lead vocal on the first "Not Fade Away", but apparently only knows part of the first verse and chorus, which he mangles in a couple of tries. He seems embarrassed, and sings in an odd, low register. Finally, he says "OK, fade away, I sang something" and drops out vocally for the rest of the song. He makes up for it in his playing, which is supportive and fits nicely into the Dead's sound. Bob Weir handles the lead vocals for the rest of the song, with Steve adding some backing. In about the last three minutes of the tape, Bill Graham comes on and introduces Traffic, who kick into "Medicated Goo" just before the tape ends. The Grateful Dead taped all of their own shows, apparently including supporting acts such as Cream and Traffic. | |
