12/31/98 The Electric Factory Philadelphia PA Shn. 0000808605 DSBD+Matrix mix(mics unknown)>DAT>CD-R>EAC>SHN Text File: moe. December 31, 1998 The Electric Factory Philadelpha, PA Source: DSBD+Matrix mix(mics unknown)>DAT>CD-R>EAC>SHN Seeded by: Brian Leonard (peyote@mindspring.com) I received this show on CD from a kind individual passing through town for a show and EAC'd his discs. The exact source he acquired it from is unknown. Notes: Noted Digipops @ d1t01 0:05 & d3t01 0:02 & 0:05 (the last two I cleaned up because they occur through music, they are still somewhat noticible but much more bearable) The matrix mix begins to change around the end of d1t07 as the sound engineer lowers the board levels and raises the mic mix, to bring in more crowd (I suppose). The effect makes this sound like AUD at this point and causes some overproduction, but the source is the same I promise! If you listen closely you can hear the gradual change. This lasts through the end of the set (d2t01). Start of set 2 the sound returns to normal. Thanks to moelinks.com for the setlist and show notes. Enjoy! -B Disc I - Set I 1. Moth 2. Timmy Tucker 3. You can combine D2&D4 if you dont mind things being out of order, to each their own. D1T4 @ 7:20 I removed a nasty balloon pop that occured less than 5' from the mics. I also heard what appears to be some wind noise on the tapes in a few places. I consider it pretty minor and its only really noticeable in places when the band wasnt playing. Had to fade IN>OUT between set 2>encore, taper flipped tapes, although you can't really hear the fade in>out, it is there. Compiled 9-24-2001 (medlhuber@hotmail.com)

Notes: This is the easiest and only way i figured out how to transfer this show w/o any cuts in segues. I don't use 80min cd's, but i'm almost certain it doesn't fit any nicer on them. 4 discs are necessary. BBFCFM will fit on disc four if you want to keep the cohesion of one full set on a disc. Notes from HPB: This tape has been circulating as 08-27-87 for years due to a handwriting error on the master. Also, a song ("Love on the Telephone) frequently follows this show on tape, but it is filler of a band called "Of the Cuff." Enjoy!!! -jon <ebeneezer@etree.org>

This was followed by the countdown and a balloon drop at midnight. The balloons broke both Page's and Mike's mics. ^With a "Birdland" (Weather Report) tease. $Page sang this Frank Sinatra cover (first time played). Known flaws: There are some strange noises in some parts, but I don't think any are flaws in the recording (including the most noticeable, a pop at 10:51 on d3t01), because they are on the other sources I've heard for this show, too. ph97-12-31d1t01.shn 98,035,229 ph97-12-31d1t02.shn 53,771,901 ph97-12-31d1t03.shn 20,086,901 ph97-12-31d1t04.shn 15,309,737 ph97-12-31d1t05.shn 62,912,605 ph97-12-31d1t06.shn 61,020,145 ph97-12-31d1t07.shn 6,433,413 ph97-12-31d1t08.shn 32,435,677 ph97-12-31d1t09.shn 25,510,181 ph97-12-31d1t10.shn 43,828,525 ph97-12-31d2t01.shn 50,048,645 ph97-12-31d2t02.shn 85,245,209 ph97-12-31d2t03.shn 46,273,469 ph97-12-31d2t04.shn 33,958,581 ph97-12-31d2t05.shn 36,710,337 ph97-12-31d2t06.shn 112,508,133 ph97-12-31d3t01.shn 82,475,549 ph97-12-31d3t02.shn 11,153,277 ph97-12-31d3t03.shn 77,458,029 ph97-12-31d3t04.shn 100,158,349 ph97-12-31d3t05.shn 48,478,001 ph97-12-31d3t06.shn 57,334,889 ph97-12-31d3t07.shn 18,805,489 ph97-12-31d3t08.shn 27,169,441

Cale cover from the album "Naturally" best known for the Eric Clapton version; first time played **** - (11:35pm) Set began with Father Time on stage pedalling away at a stationary bike, powering a large clock, the sound of the gears are heard over the PA. At approximately 11:50pm Father Time collapsed from exhaustion and the clock stops. At this time a fan boat was heard from a set of speakers in the back corner of the concert field and a large fan boat entered the field from halfway back, stage right. After crossing 1/4th of the field the sides and top of the fan boat were blown off to reveal the band riding in the hot dog from the 1994 NYE show. The hotdog crossed the concert field and the approached the stage as the band threw lei's and other goodies into the crowd. As the hot dog neared the stage, an instrumental version of "Meatstick" came over the PA. Once the hotdog reached the stage, the band disembarked carrying several meatsticks which were fed to Father Time, reviving him so that the clock could continue moving towards midnight. ^ - instrumental version with the band picking up the song from a pre-recorded version played over the PA for the last 45 seconds of the year ^^ - with vocal/instrumental jam as Trey, Mike and Page sang the notes as they played them ^^^ - recorded live for ABC TV's Millennium coverage (aired between 3:15 and 3:30am EST); Trey instructed the crowd to chant the word "Cheesecake" rather than clap and cheer at the close of the song in an attempt to confuse the TV viewers (similar to the "secret language" additions for the 1992 NYE show); Trey introduced the band for the recorded footage and offered a message of peace and love for the world about the importance of the left lane of the highway being the passing lane % - with "Cheesecake" vocal jam %% - Trey solo acoustic %%% - from "The Siket Disc" with Mike holding up a voice box repeating the phrase "Quadrophonic Toppling" %%%% - with Jon on vacuum; Jon introduced Page before the song and Mike and Trey afterwards, and the band as being Phish 2000 $ - no encore; post-show music over the PA was the Beatles "Here Comes the Sun"

E: Aqui Como Alla 6. Row Jimmy 7. Pistol * There has been a bit of discussion about this track break. I chose to leave this blues jam as one track because (a) I'm not familiar enough with this tune (or these tunes) to know where to separate them, (b) it's all basically one jam over the same bass riff, with one significant modulation. I couldn't tell if the second tune was supposed to begin at the modulation, or if it begins with the tune Trey plays as a melody towards the end of the jam. In either case, a track break would interrupt the flow of one cohesive jam (like if you had your player on random, e.g.). I hope no one will be too terribly upset over this. Once you hear it, you'll probably understand why I left it as one track. I sort of half-expect to see a revised setlist for this show some day that will exclude one of those two titles. One can always hope for such vindication, at least. :)
