Set 2Highlights: Long and solid show with a very cool opening jam for My Best Friend, and one of the best Twins of the tour.
Alex says: i've been listening to the CD- Rs of anders' recording all day. they are just EXCELLENT. even my father liked them. ;-)
i nominate the bremen version of Twin for the best version of the tour!. the jamming is much much more subtle & the neil young influence is just brilliant. just listen to the beginning, to the way snah finds his way into the theme. this is so advanced to any other version. ok, ok, so the trondheim version had the hard part in the end but this is not what represents the "twins" of the tour because it was the only version that had it. my choice is bremen. period. :)
The different sources: i now have all three bremen sources here with me & gave them all a listen on different stereos (at home, car, with headphones). here is what i came up with:
1) the first MD source is a fine & clear recording with a high bass level. the quiet parts are wonderfully clear. when it gets louder though, the bass becomes too strong for my taste overshadowing everything else. this is very uncomfortable on headphones. the biggest disadvantage of this recording is that the crowd noise comes in pretty loud. there are no cuts.
2) the second MD recording by anders hustveit is a stellar source with a lower bass level than the first MD recording. everything is audible ALL OF THE TIME. most of the time you can really seperate all sounds & instruments. the quiet parts sound similiar to the first source but this one you can crank up & it stays clear & comfortable. you get equal joy out of it on all three stereos i tried. there are no cuts. the crowd noise is more distant due to the mic-stand. an excellent & outstanding recording with more width than darmstadt 2000 for example. also, it has a little more bass than most of anders' recordings.
3) the third source is a DAT source. a fine source at that; if this would be the only source we could be content. this source has a strong bass as well. during the louder parts the bass is more comfortable than on the first recording, but still it forces me to turn the volume down. also, the instruments kind of blur during the very loud parts like the "stalemate" climax. this source might be a good source for people keen on bass but the biggest drawback is a slight amount of hiss. the crowdnoise is as distant & cool (no single voices screaming directly in your ear) as anders' probably due to the recorder's vantage point at the front of the balcony.
i might be biased because i listened to anders' source from the morning after the show & i have listened to it countless times by now ("she used to be a twin") but i am really convinced it is the best sounding one. it is one hell of a great show! enjoy! --alex

Set 2The vibe is always good in Bremen, the audience always behaves, no talk during the songs (not even when Bent goes for the acoustic one), but ovations after every song. The receptions is just fabulous, and you can see that the band immensely appreciates finally being amongst 1200 true friends.
So we get what we always get in Bremen: A great and long set, with lots of smiles and lots of energy from the stage. As always at Schlachthof it strikes me that this band seems to be a different one to the one I know from back home. I see them smiling and happy putting in that little extra. The fantastic feeling of being together with 1200 fellow genuinly interested fans, every single one smiling from ear to ear, everyone diggig the music, and everyone focusing on what happens on stage, nothing else, is undescribable after having spent a week among imbecilic Norwegian crowds.
Sound quality: The sound is clear and undisturbed by audience noise, but one channel slightly overpowers more or less throughout. On my stereo it doesn't bother me, but it is very noticeable in headpones and on bigger and better stereos than mine (like Alex' stereo:-).
Highlights: Close Your Eyes, the first All Is Loneliness of the tour, and the Superunreal combo.
Alex says: "starmelt" saw its tour-premiere here as well.
i was rather surprised to learn that this particular bremen recording did not turn out as great as the one from 2001. although the set-up & the equipment were almost the same there is a huge difference between the 2001 & the 2002 recording:. while the 2001 bremen recording was the best audience tape from the "phanerothyme" tour the 2002 tape might just be the poorest recording from the "love cult" tour [apart from ?rhus and frankfurt]. even bergen with its fucked up sound at the garage sounds better.
that doesn't spoil the *great* performance, though. a great show, heavily on the guitar-side of MP, it is a vivid flashback to 1997/98 elevating it to the best MP-show i saw this year (out of 10). supersweet is the extended intro to "577" (though not on intention, lol) as is the first "vs" i heard since april 2000. another highlight is the transition between "superstooge" & "unreal". not as radical as halden or wien ["superstooge"& "hogwash"] it has the same abstract & heavy vibe, though.
Summary: the poor sound makes this recording a "you had to be there" affair. there are many better "love cult" shows to get. still, it is better than most shows from the second half of the tour (i.e. complete italy).
