CommentInspired by by all the fine torrents uploaded by tonyt of contemporary Irish Singers, I put this collection together from my BBC 'Folk on 2' tape archive.
For those who are not familiar with De Danann, they first came together in the mid 1970's as a fairly traditional Irish instrumental group, with vocals by Delores Keane. The core instrumental lineup has not changed that much over the years, but the vocalists seem to do so with almost every album. Delores Keane, Mary Black,Maura O'Connell and Eleanor Shanley all came to prominence in De Danann.
These recordings feature two of the above vocalists and are sequenced as far as I am able to tell in performance order - as usual with Folk on 2 recordings from this period I do not know the actual dates of the recordings, only broadcast dates - and these sets were often broadcast out of order.
As with some of my previous offerings, there are some differences in audio quality, due to the different equipment/tapes, etc used over the years to capture these performances. There is a little digi-noise noticable during the spoken introductions and on the solo bodhran, but overall I think this sounds pretty good!
