CommentShow notes: these notes don't pertain much to the show (as I wasn't the taper), just wanted to give a little background on "The Center", which housed "The Roof" venue.
A guy named Dennis Wise went in on building it with a couple other guys, and we had this "entertainment complex" in Fairbanks with a bowling alley, roller rink, "Whirlyball" (more on that later), music store, arcade, movie theater, restaurant, etc...
Of course, it was in planning during the "oil crash" in Alaska in the mid 80's, and completed in the middle of that downturn, so it closed about 5 years later, with the bowling alley, theater and roller rink keeping the doors open.
Rumor has it that it officially closed due to Whirlyball (think "lacrosse/squash, with bumper cars") electrocuting a pregnant woman (!!!), but no idea if that's an urban legend or not.
After it closed, it became a Sears store, and that just closed for good earlier this year.
As for "The Roof", it was a bar upstairs in The Center, glass elevators, the whole 9 yards.
And this was one of the only shows they ever had there (BOC/Molly Hatchett and Night Ranger played the roller rink)
