CommentWill Oldham - vocals / guitar / percussion
Cooper Crain - synth / FX
Robert Frye - flute / saxophone / ukulele
Dan Quinlivan - synth / FX
no one knows quite what to expect from this show
these shows
there are three of them, after all
and it’s will – so surely there will be much variation across the three nights
so does that mean, each evening, that we’ll get a bajas set, a bonnie set, and a third collaborative set?
in the end, it’s only the latter
and it’s gorgeous
but hard to see how they’ll change it up much from night to night
but maybe that’s not the point
it’s intensely meditative
several people around me struggle with the necessity of abandoning themselves to it
they shift awkwardly in their seats
they giggle nervously
they frown at each other, furrowing their brows
but the only real way to deal with this is to lay back in it – like a salty ocean on which you can bob freely with no fear of sinking
and maybe three nights of it will have a cumulative effect
maybe, when we leave on thursday, we’ll all notice that we’re floating an inch above the ground
or maybe not
only time will tell
in the meantime... enjoy

CommentWill Oldham - vocals / guitar / percussion
Cooper Crain - synth / FX / ukulele / cymbal
Robert Frye - flute / saxophone / ukulele / floor tom / autoharp
Dan Quinlivan - synth / FX / autoharp
second of these three shows
and some instruments have been added a pair of autoharps, a floor tom
and a cymbal the percussion, in particular, adds something quite
different to tonight's experience things seem a little more urgent -
though urgent is probably not a word that would first spring to mind for
this music.. a little more… propelled, perhaps
will starts the show dressed for what appears to be orienteering and
plotting a course for this journey is perhaps something that has to be
carefully undertaken but as the evening progresses, the hood comes off,
and we abandon the marked path and when he turns and stares us deep in
the eye, imploring us to heed these words of wisdom, we would follow
this errant scout leader anywhere truly, perhaps, the only important
thing is to keep putting one foot in front of the other
keep on keeping on
indeed
enjoy

* Charles Hayward - percussion / melodica
and so we come to the end three very different nights of a very similar
thing what's the same is the mood created the warm, buoyant ocean -
simultaneously enveloping you and pushing you up towards the sky
what's different is how that ocean is conjured up tonight another
magician is added to the circle - this heat's charles hayward dour of
countenance but prodigious of talent, the floor around him is littered
with every percussive implement you can think of, and several you
haven't and all of them get struck, shaken or rattled at some point
bonnie and the bajas seem extra energised by the knowledge that tonight
is a culmination and pull out every stop to find all the bliss inherent
in the skronk, the chant, the drone, the ebb and flow, and the ever-
circling round lights flash heads nod eyes close and all is well with
this rainy corner of the world
their hard work has paid off
