CommentVery, very rare concert - in superb fidelity - of Goodman, Krupa, Wilson and Hampton in their first Carnegie Hall appearance since 1938. Though Gene Krupa was quite ill at this juncture, his playing is superb, as is the playing of the rest of the group. Bassist Slam Stewart was added to any of these reunion dates, and often referred to as "The King" as our "designated hitter"

CommentJames Taylor performed at Carnegie Hall on May 26th and May 27th in 1974.
These two shows were probably the final two shows of JT's four-week U.S. tour to promote "Walking Man." The DIR Concert Network had permission to tape both shows and it is not clear whether this version represents one of the shows or a combination of both shows. A shortened version of the show was broadcast by the King Biscuit Flower Hour (KBFH) on 6/30/74 and it may also circulate under that date or the date July 16, 1974.

Comment* With The Lost Tribe Percussion Ensemble

Riding on the unexpected wave of La Bamba hysteria in 1987, the band chose to take the artistic high road and release "La Pistola y El Corazón". This show is the pinacle of the traditional/acoustic tour that followed - the band performing at Carnegie Hall. Check out the statement they make with the high-octane traditional version of La Bamba.

CommentComments: Very recording a one-off appearance for John Mellencamp in preparation for his 1992 world tour. Mellencamp expresses surprise at the sold-out show, saying he viewed it as a warm-up for their upcoming tour in which he wanted to see how his new material worked in front of a live audience. More than half of the show consists of material from "Whenever We Wanted," and the songs sound great, despite John sounding a little ragged and out of breath. (At one point, he tells the audience that he hasn't performed in 3 1/2 years, and goes on to explain his breathlessness by calculating the number of cigarettes he'd smoked since he'd been onstage last.)

CommentThis is NOT the whole show. There was a goof with recording and the first hour of the show was missed. This starts with Ring of Life which was the 7th or 8th show played. The levels are pretty low too except for some loud audience members nearby. However, it is the only recording of this particular show thus far. I'll take it down if a better version arrives.

CommentBerlin Philharmonic Orchestra
The Westminster Choir College Symphonic Choir
with
Camilla Tilling, soprano
Bernarda Fink, mezzo-soprano
Simon Rattle conducting

"The Berlin Philharmonic is inarguably one of the finest orchestras in the world,
with an ilustrious history that includes names like Furtwängler and Karajan.
Another name associated with the orchestra is Mahler.
It was the Berlin Philharmonic that gave the premiere of Mahler's Symphony No.2,
the "Resurrection," in 1894, with the composer conducting.
Now Sir Simon Rattle brings the Philharmonic to Carnegie Hall
to perform the "Resurrection" Symphony, with the Westminster Symphonic Choir,
soprano Camilla Tilling, and mezzo-soprano Bernarda Fink.
Also on the program are three short works by Mahler's contemporary Hugo Wolf."
