CommentIn 1979 Bill Evans and his Trio appeared in Caracas. The concerts were held at the Los Cedros Theater in La Florida, very close to where I lived. At that time I was fifteen years old and I did not have enough money to pay for the entrance, it was 60 Bolívares, something like 14 dollars. It was recorded on video by Radio Caracas Televisión and later broadcast on the same channel. I could not record the program, since I did not have a video recorder, I only had a cassette recorder on hand and I was able to make this recording, which is unfortunately incomplete, since part of the tape was erased.
As can be heard in the presentation made by the announcer Luís Portillo, drummer Elliot Zigmund enters the stage first, bassist Marc Johnson in second place and finally Bill Evans himself. These are some of the musicians that Bill Evans worked with in his last days, as he died the following year.
I have the great pleasure of sharing with you, fans like me of the great pianist Bill Evans, this home recording with two songs that he rarely recorded. I hope you enjoy it despite the poor sound quality.
