Then more Harpua and the Jimmy story (Jimmy and Poster Nutbag going to Vegas). They stop and camp. At the campsite, they start yodelling. $Based on the song from Jim Stafford's "Spiders and Snakes" album. #With yodelers. John McEuen and Heather and Anamiekl August did a country/yodel tune. The story continues, Jimmy & Poster meet up with four "Elvii" on the edge of Las Vegas and have a duel. ^The four "Elvii" sing the first few verses of "Suspicious Minds" and then Fish continues. Jimmy (Fish?) is victorious. Then the dog/cat fight. Harpua wins and the song finishes. At some point everyone returns and then Brian Mantia, the drummer for Primus, shows up for "Suzie Greenberg". **All of the above musicians; with "Suzie Q" jam lead by one of the Elvii.

*For Elvis Week. #This segment was dominated by the stage presence of Ken Kesey and The Merry Pranksters. Colonel Forbin doesn't meet Icculus this time but rather finds "Ken Uncle Sam Bozo Kesey" (or something near that). At this time Kesey, dressed as Uncle Sam, appears on the stage and accounces that the Bozos have been missing for two years but are on Phish tour now. He calls one by one the Tin Man, the Scarecrow, and Frankenstein (Phish breaks into "Frankenstein") to help him find the Bozos, which soon appear as four white things in costume. After singing about the Bozos which are doing interpretive dance, the Pranksters all leave the stage after Kesey hears the "Bozo Mockingbird". Trey comments that this is what happens "after you do too much acid 30 years later..." Phish had been playing background music (including McGrupp and Ghost teases) which had developed by this point into a deep funk jam. Trey announces that "we are supposed to start 'Famous Mockingbird', but the funk is too deep." The band continues the funk jam and eventually segues into "Camel Walk."

This wood tower is tall and covered in painted plywood and has been built during the two shows. As "Harry Hood" goes into its jam, Trey asks Chris to turn the lights off, and the band jams while the front section has a gigantic Glow Stick War. Trey tells the crowd at the end of the jamto "go and get more of those, because that was cool." #No Muel Duel. ^The entire art tower was burned to the ground.

*With "Crosseyed and Painless" jam. ^Unfinished. #Very little Jimmy/Posternutbag comment; instead, Trey's life-changing experience in the 4th grade (1974, 10 years old): sitting, eating french toast and watching "Lost in Space" (a Saturday morning ritual) Trey realized that Will Robinson and the robot were in the same field as the one behind his school and were sending him telepathic messages, which led to him to collect food and bring it to that field, where he found a pentagram, placed the food and saw his own future, including the band and a figure in white singing (Tom Marshall) though he knew neither. @Proclaimer's cover (from the "Benny and Joon" soundtrack); Tom Marshall on vocals. %With lights down and a glow stick war, and also unfinished. $Before "Guyute," Trey explains that they don't know if they have enough time for one more song, but that there's one more he wants to play...he said they would not encore. After Guyute, the lights did not go on. Page, Mike, and Fish returned to the stage. Finally, Trey came on and the encore started. &Trey has "Toph" (Chris Kuroda) bring the lights down and re-starts the glow stick war during a delay jam which featured he and Fish in some sort of dance ritual at the front of the stage, Fish on vacuum, and then finally just Mike's bass and Trey's guitar loop before finishing Frankenstein

Apparently this show was close to Fishman's hometown (Syracuse), and they were urging him to sing a song. *Keyword was "Burnin' Down" (see encore). **With "Jesus Just Left Chicago" tease. +First time played (Talking Heads cover, from the album "Speaking in Tongues"); with alternate lyric "Vernon Down the house." ++With "Hold Your Head Up" and "Mission Impossible Theme" teases; alternate lyric "drive me to Vernon."

Lemonwheel Day One. *"By request, for a little boy named Sam." **Third verse was about "The Garden of Infinite Pleasantries," instead of the normal verse about Memphis; with "Sneakin' Sally" teases. ^Jam out of which sounded very much like "Tweezer Reprise." ^^With glowstick war. +After Tweezer Reprise, Trey explained that the band wanted to do something to combine ideas from The Clifford Ball and The Great Went, going into detail about the band/fan artwork from last year, and announced that the band would do a free-form ambient jam (lyric-less; nearly an hour long; "in the Brian Eno style of ambient music"), surrounded by candles that were made by the audience throughout the day. There were no other lights used during the jam (the band used only the light from the candles), which Trey explained is similar to the idea of what happens during a glow-stick war, with the light for the band coming from the fans. Because candles were placed througout the stage, Trey explained that they were in fact playing in a "temple of fire" (as advertisements for summer tour shows had announced). After finishing the jam, the band picked up tiki torches, lit them using the candles, and lit a small stone (?) temple (which was left burning overnight and throughout the band's performance on Sunday).

Lemonwheel Day Two. *With glowstick war. +Long and drawn out; Fish introduces "his band": Trey Anastasio on drums, Mike "Cactus" Gordon on bass, "Chairman of the Boards" Page McConnell, and himself as "Bob Weaver." Fish introduces the next song as "a love song about a turtle" (which would have been "Terrapin"), but instead he performed Sexual Healing ("a much better song anyway") after "his band" finally ended "Hold Your Head Up." ++Includes "Sounds of Love" vacuum solo. #With "Sexual Healing" teases in the intro. ^Henry Mancini cover; see 12-01-92. Trey lit a tiki-torch (that looked like a "giant fake doobie") and used it to light a fuse which ran up Page's side of the stage, across the backdrop, down Fish's side of the stage, along the fence to a giant elephant-shaped structure near the stage, which came to life as fireworks went off both above it and from behind the stage. Fish made elephant noises with a trombone. Then, as they played the song, the elephant blew water out of its trunk (while smoke came from underneath it) and led the crowd towards the campground.

E: Smells Like Teen Spirit##
Only about 4000 in attendance. *Acoustic; dedicated to Wendy and Lisa, two women whom Trey and Mike met the night before. **Acoustic; with a "Freebird ending", similar to the 07-20-98 "Poor Heart." Trey dedicated it to the people at the Dead Goat Saloon, and talked about getting free drinks and karoake. He also discussed the band picturing what it would be like if the entire audience were on stage with them, with no one in the audience. So they played it with this image in mind. ^With a tease of the "Monkey Man" (Rolling Stones, from their "Let It Bleed" album). ^Narration was about Jimmy going to Las Vegas and finding it too crowded and crazy (may be related to Trey's walking off the stage during "Ghost" on Halloween, given his comment on how overwhelmed he had felt, followed by a comment that "everyone has an off night"). So Jimmy decides to hitchhike to Salt Lake City, and he rides with a driver listening to Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon." Thus, the section of "Speak to Me" through "Eclipse" is the entirety of that album. #One verse sung twice; another omitted. ##First time played (Nirvana cover).

Dead." ****As the band returned to the stage, the crowd sang "Happy Birthday" to Trey for his 36th birthday. #Trey takes the time to thank the people who have supported them, including the crew (the greatest crew in the history of music) and to talk about the hiatus and how they'll use it to write songs and recharge (so they can come back and play another 17 years) after these next 6 shows before talking about the strange dream he had last night that he was sitting in the middle of a field on a beautiful day, when suddenly he saw from the periphery of his vision people walking towards him...an army of people surrounding him before sitting down. One of them took an apple and handed it to him and explained that they wanted him to eat the apple as a gift, but he realized he had no teeth...but then a giant tooth grew out of his upper gum. But you can't eat an apple with one tooth. He began to get nervous that people would wonder why he wasn't eating the apple and he had a moment of panic. Luckily, at that moment, the sun flew closer to the sun than it had ever been in history, and as a result his first thought was that the earth would burn up, but instead, the earth acted in the way that a grape acts...it shrivled and turned into a raisin version of the earth. The ground wrinkled and became mountains and the people got crushed together into a big pile. Only moments before he'd been panicking, but being crushed together, he realized that all of his senses became much more vivid in the way that a raisin is more intense tasting than a grape...Sounds, emotions, love...And just as the earth was becoming a much more rich and vivid place, he found himself in this pile of people. This pile of people became a groping pile of love and goo and he realized that Gamehendge is a state of mind and you don't have to get there physically. He decided then that everyone needed to know how simple it was to turn yourself into a seething pile of goo, so he called upon the Famous Mockingbird to spread the word about this... ##With Trey on keys. ###Rolling Stones cover; song ended with Trey setting up a delay loop before he and Mike moved to the front of the stage and began a bizarre synchonized duel involving them swinging their guitar and bass at each other and around themselves while wandering across the front of the stage and putting strange hats on Page and Jon; at one point Trey and Mike put both the guitar and bass down on the stage and kicked/stomped the stage beside them to produce more feedback; in the end Trey finally "defeated" Mike before the band walked off stage.

Notes: The sound check information is unconfirmed. Pre-show music on the PA included the "Welcome Back Kotter" theme, "Feels Like the First Time," "Back in the Saddle Again," "Reunited," "The Boys are Back in Town," and "Foreplay/Long Time" which was interrupted by the band coming on stage. Post-show music was "Let's Stay Together" * - preceeded by footage from the movie "Castaway" on the jumbotron screens on the scoreboard (scenes in which Tom Hanks's character is yelling and kicks away, then goes to search for his befriended volleyball named "Wilson"); with "Tom Hanks" (actually Page's brother Steve McConnell; see Salon.com if you want explicit confirmation) on guest vocals for the "Blat Boom..." part; ** - with a very long "pause" (2-3 minutes) and tremendous crowd roaring; *** - "Seven Below" began approximately seven minutes before midnight; during the song a disco ball was lowered from within the scoreboard and it began snowing on stage; several dancers in white with blinking light "stick figure skeletons", dressed as snow creatures (with a vaguely "winter/forest kingdom" fantasy motif, including white costumes with fur and some horned helmets) came out and began circling the band on stage before moving off into the crowd - while in the crowd several grew into large snow angels by standing on covered ladders; midway during the song snow began falling on the fans on the floor from a pair of snowmaking rigs on the right and left sides of the scoreboard above the floor; shortly before midnight, the snow angels began shining small spotlights around the crowd, appearing similar to search lights; ^ - at midnight, pyrotechnics spiraled around and behind the stage (some coming from the snowmaking rigs) and enormous white balloons with snow designs were dropped onto the floor; ^^ - with "What's the Use" teases. (Thanks to ZZYZX for pre-show info, and "Chris" for the sound check list. Thanks also to Ryan Phillips and many, many others for helping out with details.)
