Importing from Phishook

For a few reasons I'm posting this to the 'L:
1. This is probably a question most Phooker's have.
2. It turned into a book, and the info can be used by many.
3. Learn from my mistakes: I ended up doing it myself and ending up with
creating doubles of all my shows! :( LOL. It says I have 654 shows! LOL..
too bad I have to delete every single double entry by hand!

>I wanted to know how I can import my Phishhook list on to
>Etree.

Step one is to visit http://db.etree.org and set up an account if you don't
already have one:
o click here: http://db.etree.org/adduser.php

>You mention a CSV file, what is that?

Alright, now that you've got an account we can work with a CSV file. CSV is
an acronym, it stands for C.omma S.eperated V.alues. Meaning that the file
your going to import has it's data like this:

Date, Band, Source, Something, ThatOtherThing?, ThisToo?
Etc...

Get it?

Okay, now step three. Visit www.phishhook.com, click on "Prefs"
(Preferences) and login if necessary. Down about half way through all your
options you'll see "Export List", click the hyperlink to do so.

Now your onto the Export List options page.
o Select the list you want to export (Typically Primary List)
o Make sure to click the option that says include header! YOU NEED YOUR
HEADERS!
o Click the Export button:
- It will prompt you to download a file with the name "export.cgi":
* Click "Save this file to disk"
* RENAME THE FILE TO : export.csv
* Save it to a folder where you'll remember it's location!
* Hit "OK"
- My list is kinda big at around 325 shows so the CSV file was a little
hefty at 93k in size, FWIW...

o Now the file is on your computer and ready to be used! You can open .CSV
in Excel without a problem!
o Go to http://db.etree.org and click on Import, this is where it gets
kinda tricky.
- Read all the detailed instructions on the page before giving this a
try!!!
- Hit the 'Browse' button and surf it to your 'export.csv' file.
- Hit submit, from here it will open a new page and will show you how the
program is adding your shows with the "- show added Ok" after each show
successfully added to your list, those that are a problem are marked in red,
make a mental note (or write them down) to check why or to add manually.

o From here are in your all set, to visit your list to see what it looks
like your address is: http://db.etree.org/THENAMEYOUPICKED, like mine is
http://db.etree.org/npsinboro.

o Now you can customize what fields you can see, in what order, and even
change the 'skin' or look of your list easily, but its all another story and
another advantage to the more configurable db.etree.org!

o Tip for the future:
- Keep your db.etree.org list up to date and export it to CSV as
importing to www.phishhook.com is a lot easier and more user friendly! Also
conversely it's easier to export in db.etree.org land :)

>Any help would be appreciated.

Here ya go! :)

Take care,
Nick
