Multiple Lists

Using multiple lists is the ideal way to organize your collection.

To setup your account to use multiple lists:
  • First, [switch your main skin] to Smarty - Your Lists. This is the default skin chosen in [Update Your User Information] and not the per-list skin selected in [Manage Your Lists].
  • Next, go to [Manage Your Lists] and click 'add new list'.
  • Using the edit link on [Manage Your Lists] page, set up the sublist's name, shortname, skin, etc and save it. I strongly recommend you change the skin for your new list to Smarty - Your Lists as well. You can change it to something different once you're more familiar with mulitiple list setups.
  • Finally, click on the name of your sublist to assign which shows should be displayed on it.

To view your new sublist, use http://db.etree.org/yourid/listshortname

You can assign multiple lists for each show you own. This is a little confusing but works like this: if a show is assigned to a list, that show will be displayed when you view that list. If a show is assigned to two or more lists, that show will be displayed on each list when you view it, however, only one copy of that show is stored in the database. If you edit the show, the changes will show up on all lists it is assigned to.

I use the multi-lists per show feature to catgorize each show and group shows. For instance, I have a Bonnaroo list, a shn list, a grateful dead only list, a 'everything but grateful dead' list and others. A show I have in SHN format from a performance at Bonnaroo would be assigned to the Bonnaroo, SHN and non-dead lists.

Assigning Shows to Lists

This page used to be very cumbersome and nearly impossible to work with. It's now quite sleek and fast, if you know how to use it. Here's some tips:
  • The Select None link at the top will unselect every row.
  • All other select links, including artist names, will toggle row selection.
  • Clicking on an artist name will toggle selection for all shows by that artist
  • To view only a specific list, use the links at the bottom of the page.
  • The functions used on the page are quite complicated. IE is very slow at processing some of them. Always use Firefox when you can.
  • When using Firefox, you can click anywhere on a row to select it. When using IE you have to click on a checkbox to select a row.
