Help! I can't see my list!
We're happy to help you figure out what's wrong. First, does any of this help? Please gather answers to these questions and then reach out for help through the [messageboards] or the admin contact address at [1]:
- What is the URL of the page you are trying to access? Your list is located at http://db.etree.org/your_username Did you type it correctly? If you see Document not found. Return to db.etree.org then make sure you're typing your list address correctly.
- I get a 404 error. If you see anything other than Document not found. Return to db.etree.org, you've got Spyware. Try using a [different browser] to see what the real error message is.
- Blank screen or The site times out.
- Are you browsing from home or work? At work, your IT department may have blocked etree.org. Spyware may also be a factor.
- Your list may be too large to load as a single page. First, choose a Smarty skin from the [Account] page -- "Smarty - Your Lists" loads no shows, so it's a good test skin, and your "Your Smart Colors" can handle up to 1000 Shows or more on a single page. If your list now loads, it may be time to break it into sublists. See AllAboutSkins for more information.
- I see part of my list, but not all of it. Same as above - a partial load is an indicator that your list is too big for a single page - but also try refreshing (Ctrl-F5).
- I get a sql error or 503 Varnish error. This is usually something site-related and likely has nothing to do with your list. It may go away on its own, but if it doesn't, please copy the EXACT text of the error, and what page it appears on, and email it to [The Admin Team].
- I get a proxy error or bad gateway or no database selected. This is because the site is very busy. Give it a moment, and try again. If it continues for more than an hour, we may be doing maintenance. Have a cup of coffee and check back later.
- "I get a 'Fatal error: Smarty error'." This is most likely a temporary problem. Try refreshing or coming back in a few minutes.
- I get redirected to another site. You have (SpyWare).
- Which browser are you using? Internet Explorer 6 does not display some types of pages properly - this is not the site's fault, but instead the fact that IE6 is poorly-designed. We're not sure about IE7. IE8 and 9 are better, but we still HIGHLY recommend using [Firefox] - it is more standards-compliant and more secure. Error messages from Firefox will be much more useful to us.
