05/21/68 Carousel Ballroom 1 This circulates as "Tuesday Night Jam" with: Jerry Garcia, Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady, Elvin Bishop, Steve Miller, Mickey Hart, and Will Scarlett. All those names except Will Scarlet are listed on the poster, which says it was a benefit ($1 admission) - but doesn't say what the benefit was for! The poster calls this a "Rock Jam" and says it will be "Heavy". This used to circulate as "Unknown '67 from the Matrix". Jorma was asked and he does remember this. One of the posters can be seen here

03/04/85 Hunt's 1 This is all that circulates of this show though at the end of Midnight Hour, Trey says, "We'll take a short break and be right right back," which indicates that this is only a partial show. Since the tape flip occurs about 39 minutes into the 'show', it seems that there may be some more that was recorded previously and has been lost.

02/03/86 Hunt's Bar 1 FIRST YEM !!!!!
03/21/88 Nectar's 1
08/03/88 Fly Me to the Moon Saloon 1 -I choose not to do any hiss reduction since the hiss level is pretty low and I would prefer not to do any unneccessary resampling. If you feel otherwise, go ahead. -According to "The Phish Companion", the venue is often mislabeled The Roma -JJLC is definitely the end of the second set as Mike? states, "We're gonna take one more short break" after YEM, but then Trey says, "We're gonna do one more song" so they begin JJLC. -At the end of Satin Doll, the band is trying to decide what song to play and an audience member yells out "Freebird" which the band and some other audience members respond, "We/they did it already." So, I'm guessing that Freebird was played earlier in the show. -Walk Away is definitely the end of the show since Trey starts yelling, "Last call!" and bantering about tipping a bartender before Walk Away.

03/03/89 UVM 1 The tape I transferred wasn't that great. Sounds like there are many analog generations. Also, the pitch on my cassette was way off and needed adjustment. I tried my best to correct it using the tape deck?s pitch adjuster. I also used Soundforge's graphic equalizer to try and minimize the egregious amount of tape hiss. Hopefully a better sounding source will surface along with the second set.
06/17/90 Wendell Studios 2 A From the Pharmer's Almanac Vol. 6: "Recorded in the summer of 1990 at Wendell Studios in Boston, MA. The band entered the studio soon after the June 16, 1990 Townshend Family Park show, but elected not to release any of the recorded material. Tapes of the sessions circulate lightly among fansl the first tape is more difficult to track down than the second"

03/06/92 Portsmouth Music Hall 2 From: Shelly Culbertson Subject: sing any note Date: Sat, 7 Mar 92 12:26:18 PST One thing I was really excited to read about was the audience participation aspect of the show. This particularly intrigued me because I had suggested to Trey on the phone that they might try this! That conversation came about as a result of something he said during the post-Somerville interview, that they'd like to tour with a choir, who could (for example) sing a dissonant chord during the jam in Tweezer. I suggested having the audience do it, in response to some sort of signal from the band, and sent him a copy of an interview with Brian Eno where he talks about trying something like this: "I noticed this when I worked on this Cornelius Cardew piece a long time ago called `The Great Learning'. The first instruction is `Sing any note'. You choose randomly. And you do it with a big group of people. And the first chord they hit is very dense and beautiful because people really are singing every note. But they very quickly slide into a few families of notes. And I always liked that first note when you have this beautiful, dense, breathy sound."
03/13/92 Campus Club 3 Notes: The "?" in the lineage is not an extra analog generation. I'm just not sure if the PCM came from a DAT or not, thus I put the question mark in. I transferred the PCM, removed the DC offset, converted from 44.056Khz to 44.1Khz at the highest quality setting, tracked, and burned this show on July 30, 2003. I wonder if perhaps the master was recorded with Dolby on and played back with it off. It seems a bit too bright to me. However, I did not mess with the recording in any way. Enjoy!
