COMMENTS Total time [2:50:09].
There are probably several minutes of music missing in the tape break in the first set. This cut comes early to be a reel flip; if it is on the master there must have been some mishap with the taping. Jerry plays slide on Hard To Handle. The Eleven does not include the William Tell opening passage; it begins with the Jam in 11s. The second Jam In 8s includes quotations of Mountain Jam and of the instrumental bridge out of GDTRFB (resembling Bid You Goodnight). There are brief cuts in the SBD at 0:31 into the 2nd Jam In 8s and again at 1:48. The first of these cuts comes about 45 minutes into the set and probably represents a reel flip. There is a cut in Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks) at 8:01; some vocals are lost here and the tag end of the vocals seems to fade down, making this resemble an edit and raising the question of what's on the vault copy. Caution (Do Not Stop On Tracks) breaks off at 12:52; at least 30-60 seconds of Jamming and transition to Feedback must be lost here, plus some of Feedback. The encore is preceded by 3:24 of the audience chanting "more more more." Bobby stops the NFA tease with "We're gonna take a minute here and tune up." Jerry concludes the show with: "Thanks alot. We'll see you the next time the band is in town. You've been good people."

From www.deadlists.com:
Grateful Dead with members of Jefferson Airpane (definitely Jorma, Jack, and Joey Covington, who handles some vocals). Baby What You Want Me To Do is also known as Peepin & Hidin. The drummers start Wipe Out (apparently also sometimes referred to as "Pipeline") in response to a request from the audience for "Wipe Out."

this is the complete show as per Deadlists:
"Total time 2:13:40 +. Timings are based on the AUD tape
supplemented by the SBD. The AUD tape was mastered by Harry Ely. This tape
cuts in during the "New Speedway Boogie jam," which sounds like Bobby
playing the comp to this song over & over while the audience claps along and
the equipment crew tries to get the rest of the band up & running. After
4:15 this cuts to another couple minutes of tuning, soundcheck activity and
bitching about the sound system. The show proper finally kicks in with
Casey Jones, though the circulating SBD only starts with Big Boy Pete. The
circulating AUD is missing Me And My Uncle and King Bee, but they appear on
the SBD. On the AUD tape China Cat cuts in at "kimono like a crazy-quilt
star gown," and the 2nd stanza of Rider is clipped. These defects aside,
AUD tape is quite a decent job of audience recording. The circulating SBD
breaks off after Uncle John's Band. It's possible that Baby Blue was the
conclusion of the show."

Flaws: There is a reel cut during Casey Jones and It's A Man's World.
DAT to CD conversion by David Hollister
Editing: Recorded with SoundForge. Burned to CD using CD Architect. The only
editing was to remove approximately 4 minutes and 22 seconds of repeated
material on the DAT during the banter between Top of the World and Cosmic
Charlie. I also removed a couple of minor pops. Other than that, no editing
was done. The breaks between each CD were breaks that were already present on
the DAT. The only addition was 2 seconds of silence prior to the start of

Subject: A show to be heard
Hi folks,
I am just now putting the finishing touches on a 3 CD set of the Fillmore West
show from 6/7/70. This show is very interesting, and in my opinion is crying to
be heard.
Here's some interesting tidbits about the show.
Set list (broken down by CD)
CD 1: Acoustic Set
Don't Ease, Silver Threads, My Dog Has No Nose, Friend of the Devil, Candyman,
Cold Jordon, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Cumberland Blues, Me & My Uncle, New
Speedway Boogie
CD 2: Electric Set
Cryptical -> Drums -> Other One -> Cryptical -> Drums -> The Main Ten -> Sugar
Magnolia*
CD 3: Electric Set (continued)
Louie Louie Jam, It's A Man's World, Mama Tried, Top of the World, banter,
Cosmic Charlie, Casey Jones, Good Lovin' -> Drums -> Good Lovin'
The total running time is approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes, give or take a
few minutes.
Note: There is a cut (reel splice I assume) during Casey Jones.
Interesting info that makes this show so cool:
During the little drumming interlude prior to the Other One, there is some woman
you can hear ranting and raving and generally going on about Viet Nam. It would
seem the band kind of lets her state her piece in its entirety before going into
the Other One. Very cool.
The whole second CD is very cool. The jam after the Cryptical reprise is
great. It goes into a kind of lulling drum beat which goes on for a few minutes
(what I called Drums again, even though it isn't in the official setlist) before
Phil takes it up and you hear the definite Main Ten bass line. A great Main Ten
jam that goes on for about 4 1/2 minutes or so before Bobby takes it into Sugar
Magnolia.
First version of Sugar Magnolia. Very cool :) No, it doesn't rock, but up
until now, the earliest version I'd ever heard was the one from the famed
6/24/70 Cap Theater show, which I thought was unusual enough to be of historical
significance. This one is also interesting historically.
Between Top of the World and Casey Jones the band sits around talking to the
crowd and deciding what to play next. What kills me is Bobby's comment: "Hey,
there's a guy over there, he's always over there and he always yells out 'Golden
Road!'. I wanna know who he is, because man, you really take the cake. To tell
you the truth we've forgotten how to play that song" or something like that.
You can also hear several suggestions for songs, among them "White Rabbit",
which cracks up the crowd.
Great stuff. Let's get it out there. The acoustic set is pretty
straight-forward, but it's the electric set I think that really shines. The
boys just seems to be having a great time the whole show.

notes:
- CD 1 was supplied from Marcello Gasperini?s MR>DAT source, which has much less analog
crackling than Julian?s source (which supplies the rest of the show). The first notes
of Cumberland have been repaired using Julian?s MR>R>R>D source and at @ 2:20, a glitch was removed.
- the entire CD1 has been channel-switched to place the band members in their correct stage positions
- false start to Around
- very carefully reduced digital jitter @ 0:11 in Chinacat
- missing Brown Eyed Women between Big River & Greatest Story
- Brokedown Palace: moderate denoising & decrackling; channels swapped
- dropout @ 1:24 in Eyes
- GDTRFB clipped @ 6:38
- NFA fade/cut repaired (there was an overlap either side of the cut,
so it is repaired from within the recording)

The vast majority of copies in circulation suffer from what appears to be a master reel flip during the jam in "Playin' in the Band", thanks to an alternate soundboard source, we now know what we were missing during that 1:43. Enjoy!
Sources:
Master Soundboard Reel > Reel to Reel > DAT > CDR
Alternate Soundboard source-purportedly derived from a cassette master- supplies the patch in "Playin' in the Band" (d3t02) from 7:40 thru 9:23

Notes-
This show came to me in excellent condition. I used CD Wave to retrack the encore, which started 2 seconds late, and I also split Sugar Mag's and Sunshine Daydream to seperate tracks. I used Shntool to verify sb's afterwards.
There is a minor dropout @ 2:49 d2t09 (SD) but it actually occurs during the pre-encore tuning and doesn't affect any music, so I left it as is.

Flaws:
Left Channel Dropout which was repaired by pasting in the right channel
as follows:
D1t04 - Loser 3:38 -3:43
D1t04 - Mama Tried Entire song (Note: Aud Source supplied if desired)
d1t05 - Mexicalli Entire Song (Note: Aud Source supplied if desired)
d1t06 - Cumberland Entire Song (Note: Aud Source supplied if desired)
D1t07 - BIODTL 0:00 - 0:18 (Note: Patched Aud Source supplied if desired)
d3t01 - Space, Tape Flip Spice - Aud Patch provided 2:35-2:59.
d3t06 - NFA, Minor PA static at the very end of NFA
Note: I supplied as a alternative replacement to the channel patch my
aud's. Due to the stereophonic separation on the boards much of the
bass response is missing on the patch. On the other hand, many of you
might point out that the same problem exists with my auds (ie no bass).
Ah well, I put em both out there fer ya. You burn to CDR what you like.
The Second Set is Simply Perfect (ok almost perfect).
Note: The original CDR was tracked on two discs with Touch>Samson at
the end of disc 1. While there is certainly plenty of room to track it
this way. I felt it took away from the build up to the explosive 2nd
set let it grow. Just having high time>Let it Grow was sort of like a
premature.... Well never mind, I think you know what I mean.

hornsby's accordian is prominent throughout. If you miss Brent, you will miss him a helluva lot more after hearing this "We Can Run".

Notes:
At least one other SHN version of this show circulates as
of April 7, 2002. The previous version circulates with an "if
any digital editing" boilerplate. This new version is a direct
copy from a DAT clone, and has undergone no digital editing
of any form.
There are some problems with the recording at the end
of "That Would Be Something" and the beginning of "Drums".
Sounds like it could be a mic overloading. Also, during
various points of the second set, soundboard static is
audible. It is most noticeable at the end of "Foolish Heart"
and at the end of "Sugar Magnolia". These flaws are believed
to exist on all circulating copies.

* - with Pink Panther teases at beginning.
The original seed of this show did not include David Bowie. I have
since found it and added it to the correct spot, the 1st track on
Disc 2. This means that the rest of the tracks on Disc 2 had to be
moved up one slot and YEM -> Vocal Jam was moved to the beginning
of Disc 3 (which is probably where it belonged anyway).
This is a great show. I sought it out for a long time after reading an
excellent review of the Hood. Indeed you can definitely feel good about
this Hood, as well as the rest of the show. As of now (11/2000) it seems
to me that it is rather underrated and not circulated much at all. The
sound quality is EXCELLENT. It is about as good as audience recordings
get. If I didn't know better I might even think it was a SBD/AUD mix.
Some of these tracks had flaws which I corrected in Cool Edit 2000. I am
pretty sure most circulating CDR copies of this show had these flaws
because I obtained the show from a different trader to be sure and it was
the same. Here is a summary of what was done:
-Track 5 on Disc 1 (Mound) had three gaps of approximately 0.5 seconds each.
These were at 4:58-9 and 5:08-9. Removed.
-Track 1 on Disc 2 (Lengthwise) had some clicks and pops at 0:10-11, 0:30, and
1:23-24. These were removed or minimized to the best of my ability.
-Track 4 on Disc 3 (AC/DC Bag) had static at 3:35. Removed.
Also the last track, Sweet Adeline, has quite a bit of hiss and is rather flaky
overall. It's really too much to fix, especially for an acapella track, so I
decided to leave it as is. Sounds like it is a different source and possibly
more than one source patched together.

My Sweet One performed acoustic and without mics, inaudible, and
missing from recording.
Carolina also performed without mics, missing.
2 flaws occur in the original recording that should be noted...
First few seconds of Stash are missing, I faded it in to make it
sound better. Also, there are a few seconds missing from the middle
of Fluffhead, right before Bundle Of Joy. I did not fade this one.
Both of these flaws are because of analog tape flips on the original
recording, and are very quick. Frankly, the quality of the recording
more than makes up for it! |

There is a *slight* burst of diginoise at 14:14 in d1t07 (Halley's).
I recommend using an 80-minute disc for disc 1 so Coil can be on the same disc
as Halley's. There isn't a segue between the songs, but Coil starts up *right*
after Halley's. I didn't name the files this way though, since most people use
74-minute discs.

Added note from Eric:
There are 2 level adjustments in this recording. One during tweezer(a few
mins in), and i believe there's one in the opening tune of the first set. I
smoothed out one of them, but the other I could not do anything. |
