05/06/83 Orpheum Theatre CD-R, SHN 2 A "The Complete Boston Tapes" - Disc 1, Disc 2 (1-7): Excellent soundboard. Disc 2 (8-11): Excellent broadcast soundboard. Although many songs of this show have been released on other bootlegs, this double CD has the COMPLETE soundboard recording of the May 6, 1983 show, which is very hard to come by. Six songs have never appeared on any bootlegs of this show before. The show is charged and U2 is in great form. The bootleg comes with black cover art and photos from both 1982 and (strangely enough) 1992. The Boston date incorrectly labeled as May 29, 1983. A nice addition to any collection, especially since it covers the entire show. The Hilversum recording appears on other bootlegs. Both shows were recorded for radio broadcast, but I believe the master tape from the Boston show was used to master this CD. You should definitely pick this up. This is probably the best recorded representation of a U2 show from the 1983 tour. The only flaw in the Boston show is a 2-second "skip" (quite like a record would do) during the piano intro to "I Fall Down." However, a careful listen doesn't reveal any surface noise one would expect from a recording mastered from vinyl. The Holland tracks are a nice addition.
04/29/87 Rosemont Horizon CD-R, SHN 2 A "Rock's Hottest Ticket" - Excellent audience. An excellent package, the highlight being U2's cover of the Peggy Seeger folk tune "Springhill Mining Disaster". While performing the song, Bono tells the crowd, "Shut up for a second will ya? Stop whistling 'cause I'm not in the Beatles, it's U2 here!" Not to be confused with the 2CD sets, of the same name, on the Golden Stars and Live Storm labels. I just wanted to say that the recording is really good, although it's audience, but the concert itself is one of the bests ever. U2 seems to have a love for Chicago, and Bono isn't shy to tell the crowd (and they love it). When he says during 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)', "...I remember very much Chicago. One, because I think U2 played well that night, it was good... and two, because... you're so noisy!" The crowd, as Bono obviously planned, goes nuts and screams their heads off! "In the name of love!!!..." Bono continues. And during "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", when Bono chants "People dancing to a U2 song, I don't believe this!" Everyone eats it up, dancing and screaming like they never have before. I guess what I'm trying to say is that this is just a damn good (audience participating) concert. If you can find it, and loved the Joshua Tree days (as one must), you'll love this! Feel free to argue with me about this.
11/07/87 McNichols Arena CD-R, SHN 2 A This is NOT the "Mountains and Deserts" boot. This is the 11/7 show ONLY. Excellent soundboard recording. Contains performances used in the 1988 film "Rattle and Hum." A must have.
03/01/92 Miami Arena CD-R, SHN 2 B+ "Welcome to Zoo TV" - 2nd night of the Zoo TV tour. The best recording of this show available. Clean and clear throughout. Highly recommended.
05/10/93 Feyenoord Stadium CD-R, SHN 2 B- "Bono's Birthday Party" - Tood audience, but with some volume problems at the beginning. This is one of the greatest concerts of 1993! A lot of surprises and improvisations (such as The Edge singing "Party Girl" alone and also a simple birthday song for Bono). "I Will Follow" sounds a little improvised, but it's a good surprise. The only bad things about this CD is that the sound is not very good and the last song, "Are You Lonesome Tonight", is missing.
