Greg Hawkes of The Cars and Richard & the Rabbits had this to say about the tape:
"Most of the songs on this tape were recorded by Richard and the Rabbits. (Ric, Ben, myself, Fuzzbee Morse on guitar and Ron Riddle on drums). On Everyday, the Buddy Holly song, the lineup was Tom Yates on guitar, Glenn Evans on drums, and myself on keyboards, flute, and bells. I think that was the lineup on Start it All Again as well. That fourth song is a mystery. I don’t know who the singer is. I’m pretty sure it’s a Ric song. I think this tape was put together to showcase the diversity of Ric’s songwriting. I’m pretty sure that’s his handwriting on the box, and I have a faint memory of him playing me this compilation. It seems like it would be after the Rabbits , but before Cap’n Swing. Some of these songs I can barely remember, it’s been so long since I’ve heard them."
When asked if he knows who is singing on track 4 Fuzzbee Morse of Richard and the Rabbits had this to say:
"Just checked this out briefly. Greg & I played on a different version of this song called She’s Always Brighter, which Ben sang and I played bass on. I have that at home. This is neither Ric nor Ben singing, don’t know who it is. The tape box in the image intrigues me as several of those titles are Richard and the Rabbits songs. Harlequin, Start It All Again, etc. Very curious where that image comes from. Hope that helps."
So apparently much could be learned about these demos if the Richard and the Rabbits demos were made available. Here's some of what we know now:
side 1
Harlequin (*Richard and the Rabbits)
Sam’s Decision (*Richard and the Rabbits)
Mid Spring
You’re Always Brighter (with guest vocals and different than the Cap'n Swing version) (recorded as "She's Always Brighter" by Richard and the Rabbits at some time)
side 2
Never Gonna Get Over You (different than circulating Ocasek & Orr version)
Twilight Superman (different than circulating Richard and the Rabbits & Cap'n Swing versions, so probably Ocasek & Orr)
Everyday (same as circulating Ocasek & Orr version - Tom Yates on guitar, Glenn Evans on drums, Greg Hawkes on keyboards, flute, and bells)
Start It All Again (recorded by Richard and the Rabbits at some time) (NOT the same song that Glenn released as “Start It All Again” live in Oreno)
* Richard & the Rabbits (mid-1973 - end of 1974) consisted of:
Richard Ocasek - vocals, guitar
Benjamin Orzechowski - vocals, bass
Greg Hawkes - keyboard, flute, sax, bells, vocals
Fuzzbee Morse - guitar, keyboards, flute, vocals
Ron Riddle - drums, vocals
