B+ Wailers mess up quite a bit but still fantastic. There is a power failure during get up stand up so that for a few verses it is only drums and the PA. Music kicks back in half way through and they really simmer.
Only 3 songs: Slave Driver, Stop that train, Get up Stand Up. CD also includes 5/1/73 BBC Top Gear Radio Broadcast which has: Concrete Jungle, Slave Driver, Rastaman Chant

A+ Top 10 Show! The Wailers at this time featured Bob Marley together with Peter Tosh (rhythm guitar/vocal), Earl 'Wire' Lindo (keyboards), Aston 'Family Man' Barrett (bass), and his brother Carlton Barrett (drums). Founding member Bunny Livingston (later to change his name to Bunny Wailer) had toured with the band in England.
Among the songs in the KSAN session were five-- Burnin & Lootin, Kinky Reggae, Get Up Stand Up, Slave Driver and Rastaman Chant -- from Catch A Fire and Burnin', the two Island albums the band released in 1973. The set also included Walk the Proud Land, originally recorded in the mid-Sixties (it was later to appear on Bunny Wailer's Sings the Wailers album) while Peter Tosh took the lead vocal on You Can't Blame the Youth, a song he subsequently released on his own Jamaican label, Intel-Diplo HIM. Time = 52:07
This was recorded shortly after the Wailers were kicked off the Sly & The Family Stone tour for actually drawing more attention than Sly. They were stranded and the K-SAN station booked them at the Matrix Club as well as giving them this Radio time.
Lineup: Bob Marley - guitar, vocals
Peter Tosh - Rhythm guitar, vocals
Earl 'Wire' Lindo - Keyboards
Aston 'Family Man' Barrett - Bass
Carlton Barrett - Drums

Comment First show of 75 tour. Bob talks a lot between the songs. One of the most memorable lines has to be "So I shot the sheriff. Now I wasn't no fast draw or anything. But I could shoot straight." Ziggy comes out on Natty Dread and they sing a bit of it together. Also some unknown vocalist on Get Up Stand Up

The Lyceum - 1,
CDR |
A+ A combination of the 17th and 18th Lyceum Ballroom shows comprises the "Live" album, released on Island Records in 1975 The shows proved to be as extraordinary as the build-up predicted. Bob Marley and The Wailers tore the Lyceum apart. The road crew had struggled to get good sound and power - a notorious problem at this venue, but articularly so in this case as the shows were being recorded for a possible live album - and their painstaking efforts were enhanced a thousand fold by the electrifying performance produced by Bob and his group. Quite simply, they were fantastic. Bob held the audience as though they were part of his collective soul. "From that gig," Dennis Morris recalls, "every person who was there decided they were a Rasta, and it snowballed. The whole movement just spread."

A One Love Peace Concert. Bob unites fueding Jamaican heads of government Edward Seaga and Michael Manley during the song "Jammin'" Bob, however, seemed in a state of transcendental bliss. Instead of attacking the prime minister and the leader of the opposition, he attempted to bring them together. During 'Jamming' his dancing delivery and skat extemporising on the lyrics showed someone taken over by the spirit: 'To make everything come true, we've got to be together, yeah, yeah. And to the spirit of the most high, His Imperial Majesty Emperor Haile Selassie I, run lightning, leading the people of the slaves to shake hands. . . To show the people that you love them right, to show the people that you gonna unite, show the people that you're over bright, show the people that everything is all right. Watch, watch, watch, what you're doing, because . . . I'm not so good at talking but I hope you understand what I'm trying to say. I'm trying to say, could we have, could we have, up here onstage here the presence of Mr. Michael Manley and Mr. Edward Seaga. I just want to shake hands and show the people that we're gonna unite . . . we're gonna unite . . . we've got to unite . . . The moon is high over my head, and I give my love instead. The moon is high over my head, and I give my love instead.' This is another "must Have" for true Marley fans. This was one of the most important and famous concerts of his career.

B This performance can only be described as utterly psychedelic. There are heavy dub effects on the vocals throughout, (e.g. "I Shot the Sheriff . . . riff . . . riff . . . riff . . ."), which are more apparent on some recordings than others. Al Anderson's lays down trippy, burning solos on "Concrete Jungle" and "Dem Belly Full." He is one of the great unsung guitarists in any genre. Junior's solos on "Wake Up and Live" and "Heathen" are superb. Fams' bass is killer, as always. And Carly . . . was a better drummer ever born? And Bob, the
consummate reggae rhythm guitarist, a role that is overshadowed by all his other greatness. And as a special, if somewhat strange bonus, the encore features a guest appearance by Ron Wood.

A Zimbabwe Independence Concert - Rufaro Stadium - Salisbury, Zimbabwe -Riot breaks out on the 17th, and the concert was continued on the 18th -The second and final show that Bob ever played in Africa In April 1980, Bob Marley and the Wailers were afforded the highest honor of their musical careers. On April 18th, the country Rhodesia was to celebrate its independence from England and Bob Marley and The Wailers were invited to perform at the ceremony. From that day forward the African nation was to be called Zimbabwe. Bob and the Wailers started their set. As soon as the first notes rang out, pandemonium broke loose in the enormous crowd gathered by the entrance to the sports stadium: the gates shook and began to break apart as the crush increased, the citizens of Harare both excited and angry at being excluded from seeing these inspirational musicians. Order was only restored when ZANLA guerrillas marched through the stadium with raised clenched fists. Bob and the group returned to the stage shouting 'Freedom!' and a crisp English voice from the other end of the stadium announced: 'Bob Marley, you have exactly two minutes left.' Bob responded with "War." The audience jumped and chanted, shouting 'War! It was decided that the group would play another concert the following day 4/19, to give the ordinary people of Zimbabwe an opportunity to see Bob Marley. Over 100,000 people - an audience that was almost entirely black - watched this show by Bob and The Wailers. The group performed for 90 minutes, the musicians fired up to a point of near ecstasy.

A Stanley Theater - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania After an amazing show at NYC's Madison Square Garden, he had collapsed while jogging in Central Park the next morning. Rita Marley and some of the band had wanted to stop the tour but Bob wanted to continue... none the less, the next show on September 23, 1980 would be Bob's final concert... it took place at the Stanley Theater, Pittsburg, Pa., USA - the recording of "Redemption Song" from that night can be heard on the "Songs of Freedom" Box Set
