This historical recording captures Dark side of the
moon in its earliest stage.
No other recording available from the jan/feb 72
tour (in which dsotm was first performed)
sounds as good as this.
It has one ugly flaw (still) with the
annoying cuts in Tr. 4, 8 & 11 but the music &
sound is just too good to leave.
This upgrade is by far the best sounding version
of this recording of the few I have ever heard.
Includes artwork, made with great care.
You need this, average fan or diehard.
Enjoy,

A note from the Prof.:
Today, 34 years and a couple of days after this was first recorded,
I present to you all a significant digital upgrade -maybe even
the definitive version- of the legendary "The Best of Tour 72" boot.
It KILLS both the "Swinging Pig" and the "Original Masters Series"
bootleg CD's of this album that most of you all know.
These two boots were both taken from the same inferior source
which is ruined by a heavy NoNoise treatment.
This is a trueful reproduction of the original vinyl bootleg and will
make you hear details in the recording that you never heard before.
***About the Original Bootleg***
The content of this CDR has been carefully mastered from a rare
vintage (1972) vinyl copy (strictly rated: EX), the very 1st
pressing of this classic floyd bootleg, and therefore the closest
source to the (unfindable) original tape.
The recorded content of the original LP was handled professionally
from start to finish (not counting the cuts in the recording).
The sound is beautiful. A very wide stereo image with clear
separation of instruments & voices. There is little hiss or distortion.
The unmastered source that the bootleggers used must have been
0th or maybe 1st generation tape.
The original pre-vinyl tape has had a mastering treatment with a
compressor, Dolby(A) and likely some EQ-ing.
The vinyl itself is nice and thick, made to last.
This could very well have been pressed at a pressing plant which
was used by major record company's as well.
As you can read in Clinton Heylin's excellent book
"Bootleg! The Rise and Fall of the Secret recording industry"
this used to happen a lot in the early 70"s, and it would explain
why the bootleggers were so keen to hide the name Pink Floyd,
even on the record label itself.
Although the pre-vinyl part in the source info chain is speculated,
it's 100% certain that this is NOT a soundboard and/or FM.
Ever since this came out, the SQ has led people to believe it is.
Even the above mentioned book, erroneously stated this was
taken from a BBC radio broadcast.
And even to this day, this recording is way more often labelled
as "radio" or "soundboard" than as what it is: "EX audience".
Have a look here to learn more about the countless vinyl
pressings of this legendary bootleg:
http://backtrax-records.co.uk/floydboots/pages/b8.html
(NB: A few more details to identify the first pressing:
The record label is dark blue with silver characters and edge.
The matrix number on Side 1 is 16-421 and can be seen both
on the label and also in small characters between the running
grooves. The label says: "We did it for you".
Same goes for Side 2 but the number is 16-422 instead and
the label says: "We did it for you too"
On both sides you can see: "composed and arranged by TOUR 72".
There's no mention of Pink Floyd anywhere.
The only direct sign referring to PF are the tour dates on the
back of the laminated sleeve.
This LP or the 2nd pressing are very much worth the hunt.)
***About the Mastering***
The vinyl was cleaned carefully one hour long using anti-stat.
Because both the SQ of the original recording and the mastering
of the LP are so outstanding, I felt it would be a waste to correct
anything in that aspect.
This means that no further eq-ing or compression has been applied
by me. ObviousIy, I did not use any noise reduction;
the big sin that made the previous (and unfortunately) common
cd(r) versions of this recording sound like poop.
There is a little bit of vinyl distortion hearable, most notably in the
gentle parts during the last 11 min. of Side 2 on the left channel.
It's nothing to write home about but still.
I picked out the biggest clicks by hand and handled the rest
with the excellent 'Waves' Click & Crackle plug-ins.
I corrected the speed of the recording with +0.15 semitones.
I tuned Rick Wright's organ with great precision to an exact A
(440 Hz), bringing down the playing time from 41:13 to 40:52.
I also swapped the channels as heard on the LP to match the
stereo image as much as possible with PF's then stage order;
Dave's guitar & vocal are clearly on the left, the toms are coming
from the left to the floor-tom on the right, (as if you are standing
in front of the drums).
An edit was done to make side 1 run seamlessly into Side 2.
The point where the edit was made can be heard on
both sides of the LP, so not a millisecond got lost.
Enjoy,
Prof. Stoned |

this is more than a Stange One. First of all tis was supposed to be from 11-16 whereas it's really 11-15, which is a great surprise. The origin of this recording is unknown so far, any guess could be right, this can be either something recorded from the stage or more probably some sorta BBC test?? Any info about it? I do ignore if this is the complete recording from this source too. Drums + bass are clearly audible whereas the other instruments are in the back. The last track is Echoes from 11-16 (BBC recording) probably the source used by Sirene for his 11-16 release.
Some processing trick have been used unfortunately, but the sound quality wasn't compromised so much. |

Notes:
This is my first attempt at uploading an album so please bear with me. This is an audience recording in which the back of the CD jacket boasts that it's taken directly from master reel to reel. Given the time an audience recording doesn't get much better than this.
Dick Parry, the saxaphonist for the tour, plays on "Echoes" which is certainly different. The precursors to "Sheep" and "Dogs" are an especially interesting treat. This album came, unnecessarily on three discs (the third being reserved, soley for "Echoes") so I decided to may as well include it in that odd manner.

I removed very little applause. I indexed it so it could be skipped when listening. The right microphone became unplugged at the concert just before Us And Them. I used the left channel for both so, technically that song is 2 channel mono.
I have also done the artwork for this version of this show. I really have never liked the practice of giving titles to live shows but I understand one of the reasons people do it is to distinguish between different versions of the same show. I felt like I needed to give this one a title due to the many other inferior versions that exist. Please keep the artwork and text file, unaltered, together with the SHN's.

Producers remarks:
An excellent audience recording from the Boston Gardens in Boston, MA on June
27, 1977. Taken from the master tapes and digitally remastered. This is an
excellent and incredibly airy recording. It really captures the live Animals
tour very well. The atmosphere is nearly perfect, the crowd is reasonably well
behaved for a Floyd show, and the instruments come through clearly. Initially it
is a little compressed sounding, but really brightens up by the end of the first
song. There is virtually no hiss to be found anywhere on this recording, it is
as clean as they come. Highly recommendable to any Floyd fan. |

I'm not really a big fan of Tool, which is strange as I like APC a lot. But I got a lot of requests from people who wanted a 13'd Tool show, so I grabbed this and smacked it up good. Very big improvement on a pretty good show, and that says something coming from a non-fan (although I did enjoy a few of these tunes, these guys certainly rock live. I could be converted someday.)

I received no gen info with this show, but I can say it is not a MASTER > DVD because you can see the tape warble line at the bottom(common in VHS transfers) So my best Guess would be 1G or 2G > DVD

notes by Galen: "his filmer's work on this particular show is so, so much better than the other versions floating around in people's collections. Not only did Rawson (filmer) have a very steady hand this night but he managed to get some great close-ups on MJK w/the screen behind him --- seeing the shadow & silhouette is rather interesting. Having watched many videos from this period, I can honestly say that lots of people try to do this but it rarely works to this degree. Very nice. Like all VHS>DVD transfers, you can tell that this was on VHS but at least it was from a lower gen. Sound is good, really good for a video and is a pleasure to watch. There are non-VHS transfers out there from the taper as well. Lateralus is slightly cut on all copies at the end." |

Notes:
This is NOT a matrix of this show. This source features a remastered version of the ALD audio,
with the filler taken from the MBHO source. This show now flows seamlessly from beginning to end,
since all the audience noise, Maynards speeches, Eon Blue Apocalypse, etc was added back in.
Special thanks to tHE_gLiTCH for remastering this show, giving a much fuller sound
The splicing was done by nihilistic0
This is an excellent upgrade from the original ALD source that was released |

Notes: The audio is slightly brickwalled on the higher frequencies but is otherwise not too bad for a video, let alone a VHS>DVD conversion. There is a line of analog noise from the VHS conversion that is evident but this is not really a huge issue. It is unknown if there are any Master>DVD copies floating around. if there, let me know. As of 2005, there appear not to be any. Although this video is not exceedingly rare, it did make it's way into some form of general trade not too long ago. Like many videos, there is unknown or unverified recording equipment information. Your guess is as good as mine - wait. Stop that. Don't guess... if you do not know the source information do not pretend that you do. Fair performance, lacks in a bit of energy to those that would notice a difference in comparison to... whatever.

Notes: You may notice the setlist at the bottom. I was not at this show. After the 08.30.02 show, I attained the setlist from the sound engineer. Completely different show - still, managed to get a setlist. Truth be told, I was hoping for the setlist from Cleveland, OH but, retrospectively, am rather pleased at the outcome.
Notes: This is the only audio/visual recording of Tool's Radio City Music Hall which truly was a superb performance. How this taper managed to smuggle his Mini-DV into the venue & pull out such a professional recording boggles my mind. No one is in front of the camera, no one is yelling & the recording is pretty-much focused simply on Tool. The taper is in a good location, almost dead-center. This performance featured the "new" artwork that Tool was using by artist Alex Gray, who was at this show as well. The camera is focused; excellent shots of the band, the 'new artwork' & video shots. Sound is great, better than some MD versions I've heard of various shows. If There were some people who described this performance as something short of the 2nd-coming-of-what-Christians-call-Christ.

Notes: The filmer was left-center while filming this show. There are some superb full stage + screen shots which make this a rather interesting & holistic experience to watch. There are a few close-ups but, really, they are generally relatively dark & a little obscure. Good, nonetheless. However, there seems to be a bit more camera ducks than are common in other products that Randy has manufactured. But sometimes that is what you need to do to get a complete recording. I don't really know how those filmers do it, to be honest, but I am glad someone wants to. Personally, I am more than happy doing FOS recording. Back on topic, Tool was very good this night & this is the show which, as reported by the official website a few months back, "Faaip De Oaid" was played & recorded after the show & is supposed to be included on a future DVD release. This has yet to be actually verified.
Maynardism: "Good evening. Y'all plan on having fun tonight, right? We probably should make some kind of distinction. What kind of fun we're gonna have tonight. Not like WWF or monster truck kind of fun. And not like Limp Bizkit, Kid Rock kind of fun. The difference being we don't underestimate your intelligence. We're going to have informed, intelligent, inspired, think for yourself - question authority kind of fun, yes? Having said that..."
