Track 1 on CD1 are Jack Straw and Box of Rain from the Sound Check.
The following layout is based on 2x74min plus 1x80min. I originally
received these with the encore on cd2. I like the sequential flow of
a show and so bumped cd3 to 80min to put the encores at the end while
keeping the DS>Eyes> China Doll intact. To make this 3x74, simply
move d3t07 and t08 to d2t10 and 11.

by re-assembling the discs, this 4 disc set can fit on 3 discs.
However, the noodling/segue betweeen "Mississippi Half-Step" (d4t01)
and "Playin' in the Band" (d4t02) would either
be lost in a disc change, or, necessitate an overlap of music between
disc 2 and disc 3. This segue has been left in place in this 4 disc set.
there is a 0:01 burst of static at the 4:01 mark of "Big River" (d2t01)
made possible thru the usual group of suspects/mental patients

Jim Powell's notes:
There are conflicting reports whether the SBD master is on cassettes or
reels, but it sounds like it would have to be reels.
The last 26 seconds of Here Comes Sunshine is missing on our copy of the
SBD and is patched in using an AUD master from a cassette copy of
unknown low generation.
22 seconds in Eyes Of The World are patched from this AUD source also.
The 22-second cut in Eyes looks like a cassette tape flip introduced
when the reels were transcribed to 1st gen cassette. The missing
conclusion of Here Comes Sunshine is harder to account for on this
hypothesis, but there seems a reasonable chance that both missing
segments are intact on the master reels. Meanwhile, this tree.
First set highlights include TLEO, Row Jimmy, GSET and China Cat >
Rider. The Here Comes Sunshine times almost 16 minutes, is the longest
known on circulating tape and probably the best. The Dark Star is the
third longest known at 43:28, and one of the all time best. It is the
fraternal twin of 11/11/73.D
Dave Greenberg did the patches. David Gans supplied DATs of the 1st gen
cassette SBD and Jim Powell instigated the project, supplied the AUD
cassette used to patch the SBD's defects, and wrote this note. |

February 26, 1977
Since there were no md5s when I originally downloaded this show, after re-encoding into the new seekable shn format, I created md5s. I ripped the tracks using EAC at no less than 99.9% accuracy. Enjoy

alternate tracking suggestion by listener Greg Hamilton:
02/26/77 Swing Auditorium, San Bernardino, CA
GSH note: The track list here is my redistribution of the tracks across 3 discs,
so that all discs are under 74 minutes. In the original tracking as down-
loaded, all of Set 1 was on one disc that was overtime (> 74 minutes) and
thus not Red Book compliant.
No jams or segues are disrupted by my alternate tracking.

Culled from a May 6, 1999 post by Rob Eaton to dnc --
I recently re-decoded 5/5/77 and 5/8/77. I went into Right Track Studios in NYC (my home base studio ) set up in studio B (which is the premier state of the art Digital Music Studio in world). I had clean dat copies (provided by Tim Daulton) that were NOT decoded. I set up a chain consisting of: Panasonic Sv4100 AES out-->DB Technologies 924AD (24bit/96k capability)-->Dolby 361 Modules w/DBX K9-22 cards-->Neve Capricorn 32bit point processing/full 24bit Digital Console-->DB Technologies 122s 24bit/16bit conversion and 44.1k/48k sample rate conversion-->Panasonic Sv4100 Dat AES in. This is State of the Art Tchnology, getting as much of the music that was on the tapes as possible. The thing about DBX that nobody else got is that in order to decode it properly the volume into the decoder has to be exact, otherwise the tapes can be to bass heavy or to bright and compressed. These tapes are absoultly the best possible reproductions of the dig tapes made from the masters (I only wish I had the actual reels so I could do a proper azimuth adjustment on them).

I was happy to get Jeff Fishman's copy of this show, the "upgrade" copy, seeded May 2001. According to him, he did no editing, simply seeded his superior copy. However, it was missing Sunrise due to DAT problems. Also, every song was tracked slightly off. The first few seconds of each song was actually at the end of the track previous. So, I patched in Sunrise from the earlier Etree source (thanks Alan Schlissel & Scott Sherman!). Then, using SoundForge XP 4.0 (thanks Jeff!), I pieced the tracks back into disk-sized wav files, which I then split back up using CDWav. I also changed the tracking of disks 2 and 3 so that the disk break came in between songs instead of between St. Stephen and Terrapin. I did no editing to the actual sound, except to adjust the level of Sunrise to match the rest of the show as well as possible. |

The source info given was SBD>R>DAT>CD, but Tiedrich lists a cass gen.
The weird thing is the acoustic sounds like it could be from reels with no
cass. -very clean, while the electric has a slight touch of hiss - nothing major
at all.

Comments: Please don't let these flaws scare you this shows is very
listenable! A splice at the ends of certian tracks on CD1 it apprears
that some of the crowd banter inbetween songs was deleted or never
continued. At first I thought CD 1 could have been other recordings
from other shows combined to make CD 1. This is NOT the case here. I
got this show from a VERY VERY reliable person. The splices are at
the ends of CD 1 tracks 1 @ 5:00, 2 @ 2:52, 3 @ 4:37, 4 @ 2:25, 6 @
4:36.750, 7 @ 8:41, 8 @ 6:01. On tracks 5, 9 , 10 no splices. The songs
are very close together(no tunning, etc.) thust having no splices to
save on cassette time remember this is the 80's. I also noticed a D/O
on D1t6 @ 4:36.871 to 4:37.250 during crowd the banter all removed.
D2t6 has a splice with D/O's @ 7:27. D/O on D3t1 is missing first
couple of notes. D3t3 @ 6:35 and 6:38 Removed. Static on D3t6 @ 8:43
Removed. D3t12 D/O @ :08 removed. Since the Dead did not allow taping
at the 1980 Radio City Hall shows I consider myself lucky to have this
show. This recording is the only recording I could find. If anyone
out there finds a better recording (SBD) please contact me at

Notes:
- Some between song tuning missing from first set. I was going to add
this from the AUD but the hiss was just too much and the parts that
needed patching was more hiss then anything else.
- Light static throughout the show. Not for very long ever and it is
very light.
- Clipping occured before I EAC'd this show.
- Some light pops in the beginning of Cold Rain and Snow
- Race Is On has a light pop at 0:08
- Promised Land has clicks at 1:29, 1:38, 1:39 and 1:42
- Deal has a click at 6:02
- There was enough of a break to split Fire on the Mountain and Women
are Smarter without anything missing. These tracks are seemless.
- a few pops through Drums and Space also the static is a bit heavier
but only for a short period.
- Pop (might be from the stage) between Sugar Magnolia and Sunshine
Daydream

The was about 5 minutes of overlap from d2 to d3. SF5.0 was used to "seamlesssly" stitch the two
discs together,
Space has an Other One theme. I decided to leave it tracked as one song
as I doubt anyone would want to skip over the long Other One "intro". You decide
which is wise.

A Huge thanks goes out to Steven Martin for the source discs
Thanks to Popi for getting me the AUD for patching
Patch source:
http://db.etree.org/shninfo_detail.php?shnid=10924
Notes:
- Odd sound at 1:33 of Dancin in the Streets
- Little Red Rooster patched from - 0:00 - 0:42
- Terrapin Station patched from 0:12 - 0:23
- Audience after Sugar Magnolia fades out as Black Muddy River was
originally placed at the end of disc 1. I faded Black Muddy River
in so there isn't an abrupt start. No Music is missing just fans
fading in and out.
- This show can fit on 2 74 minute CDs by placing the Encore on disc 1
Also a big thanks goes out to the guys and girls at SHN Traders for
helping me spread these seeds around. Mike, Jason, Michele, Teri,
Rob, Steve, Tom, Dean and the rest.
And another big thanks to Richard, Michael, Mick and Vivek over at

On a personal note this was my first Grateful Dead show. It is a huge
honor for me to seed this to the community. I hope everyone enjoys
this show as much as I did/do.

Tuning (d1t01) and first 2 minutes of Touch of Grey (d1t02) are from
the circulating Matrix Seed.
Between Good Times (d1t06) and Cassidy (d1t07) there was a dropout
repaired and I spliced in the Tuning from Circulating Matrix
Tuning (d2t01) and The first 13 seconds of Aiko Aiko (d2t02) are
from the circulating Matrix Seed.
Tuning missing between Ship of Fools (d2t04) and Estimated Prophet
(d2t05). Patched with circulating Matrix.
Slight Glitch remains from a Dropout in Estimated Prophet (d2t05)
at 7:00. I did patch this but the patch was more intrusive then
the glitch.
Dropout (tape flip?) in Drums (d2t06) spliced in from Matrix
from 8:41 - 9:06
Cut in Audience after Not Fade Away (d3t05) not repaired

Notes:
Purported lineage of this was SBD>MC>DAT>CDR. Both Jools and I agree that
There is at least one more C gen in the mix due to the slight hiss.
Nevertheless it is a very listenable SBD that has been "missing" for far
too long.

DAE(EAC)+ SHN Encoding by Jeff M.
Note: I received this show on cd directly from the dat transfer. I noticed after extraction that eac was reading the peak levels at a maximum of 28%. I then extracted each disc as one big .wav and normalized peak to 98%. I then used CDWAV to remark the tracks and edit out some interminably long pauses in between a couple of tracks. The end result sounds pretty good IMHO.---Enjoy--Jeff M.

problems corrected:
d3t05 was missing the last 40 seconds or so I crossfaded it with the
circulating AUD from 0:08:40:26 to 0:09:19:03. Thanks Tommmy.
d3t06 had a bunch of Pops and Crackles toward the end. I fixed these
by cutting out the problems and pasting in the other channel.
Tape flip in drums. This was originally tracked on 2 tracks. The
first faded out and then the second began. I reattached them as
seemless as possible. The AUD was also missing this bit.
Drums and Space are seemless.
The last few seconds on the Sugar Magnolia track (during the Audience)
fades out. So the Encore starts abruptly. |

The FC/DD2496 refers to the A/D transfer. The FC is a Flying Calf external
24-bit A/D converter. This provided the A/D conversion (@ 44.1KHz) which was
then fed into my Delta DiO 2496 soundcard. Minor Editing done in Sound Forge

Comments: This DAUD is awesome! We wish we knew the rig! (Only info listed on J-card "mic:AKG")
Who ever did this recording was VERY GOOD at recording this
show! We listened to it and we're beside ourselves at the
quality of this recording! The clarity is amazing and the lack of
crowd noise is remarkable for an FOB. GOOD LUCK trying to find a better
Daud of this show! ENJOY ! ! !
Special Thanks to Aldo Torre from Italy for the DAT Clone!
