Notes from phish.net:
Live taping has been going since the band's second show, 11/3/83.
Shelly Culbertson said of the first gig, "Nope, that show was not
recorded. However, their next show - 11/3/83, basement of Slade
Hall, UVM - was; I think it was taped on a boom box with condenser
mics and the tape is entirely over-saturated and distorted. The
tape was labeled with felt tip on masking tape and appears to have
resided on someone's car floor or dashboard for a few years. No,
copies of this tape are not available - but I can try to post the
setlist some day, if I ever figure it out. ;-)" |

Minor Edits: None
"Sbd/Aud mixes: The following shows were recorded to DAT from a separate
recording board at the shows. They are some of the highest quality
Phish tapes in existence: 4/22/90, 10/30/90, 10/31/90, 11/2/90,
11/3/90, 11/4/90, 3/13/91, 3/15/91, 3/16/91, 3/17/91, 3/22/91,
3/23/91, 4/5/92.
Except for the 4/5/92 tape, they have all been fairly widely circulated.
They were done on a large recording console (not EQ) and mixed completely
separately from the board mix, rumoredly done in a truck outside the venue.
The engineer used 2 audience mics to mix in crowd/hall ambience (on most of them).
See also, PA info."
Quoted from: http://www.phish.net/PhishFAQ/tquality.html
Info From Kevin Shapiro: "11/3/90 and the other tapes of the era (10/30-11/4)
were all done by Mike Grace through a separate 16 track mixer and ran direct to 2
track DAT. He basically used the same setup in Spring 1991 too."
Mastered by Mike Grace, DATs for this transfer provided by Mikey Perrott. Thanks Mikey!

Welcome to my masterclone copy of this show.
*Unfortunately it has 1 minor issue.*
Disc 1 Track 1(Llama) has a slight hiccup
somewhere around 1:19-1:20.It is so minimal,
you will barely notice, but you will notice.
I usually would not seed an issued show, but for
this one I will make an exception for the
following reasons:
1}To my knowledge there is not another copy on
DAT available.
2}The issue is so minor and this is such a good
show,it does not deserve to be shelved.
With that said, don't shy away from this show
just because of a split second issue, the 2nd set
is VERY HOT!!!!!!!!
This show was taped by by my friend,
Robert Ward from San Jose CA.
Here's his setup:
NAK 300 Omnis>D-7>DAT.
I have no clue how he mastercloned it for me.
Their journey to SHN:
Technics SV 260A>COAX>WAV>CDWAV>SHN*
Disc 1 spent a little time in the Cool Edit
to repair the LLama issue,it was much worse
then the issue you will notice.
I have used the MKW audio compression tool.
These Shn files are seekable in your SHNamp.
Also,I have included the md5 for the wav files,
please use it to verify yours.
Please use the audio file provided when
trading in the audio format.

Comments: I queried for this show in the etree db recently and found only one person with a digital copy. For many pacific northwesterner's and
other phans who made the trip, this is a long sought after show. It was one of the best of the tour, and extremely high energy. The band as well as many
phans had quite an evening crossing the border and this is reflected during multiple show narratives (listen to makisupa and mid-highway blues).
If you've got a copy of this show that includes the encore, please contact Michael Stern <m_stern6@hotmail.com> mockingbird.dyndns.org

^ one DMB member broke a string and left the stage, and a
fiddle-banjo breakdown thing ensued during his absence
** with an explanation of the record by Trey, with Sofi on stage
dancing, and with Guinnes Book of World Records staff videotaping
the event for verification yet on what the estimated attendance
count was, much less a count of those dancing, though premilinary
reports suggest the crowd may have exceeded 70,000, but
participation in the Meatstick Dance was weak.
*** Axillas on this tour have been Axilla I but with the II ending;
this performance was pure I, with no II ending
^^ with glowrings, and Trey on keys
^^^ Catapult was followed by a tremendous amount of banter and
toying, all continuing an E chord from the end of Wilson (which
was never finished) Trey: "READ THE FUCKING HELPING FRIENDLY
BOOK" he said you wont find it on mtv r barnes & noble or
borders or amazon or internet ...."if you wannna find out you
gotta read the fucking book " Smoke on the Water, compared it to
Cat Scratch Fever, and more.

(primarily the vocal "ooh"s)

*** - J.J. Cale cover from the album "Naturally" best known for the
Eric Clapton version; first time played
**** - (11:35pm) Set began with Father Time on stage pedalling away at
a stationary bike, powering a large clock, the sound of the gears are heard over the PA. At approximately 11:50pm Father Time collapsed from exhaustion and the clock stops. At this time a fan boat was heard from a set of speakers in the back corner of the concert field and a large fan boat entered the field from halfway back, stage right. After crossing 1/4th of the field the sides and top of the fan boat were blown off to reveal the band riding in the hot dog from the 1994 NYE show. The hotdog crossed the concert field and approached the stage as the band threw lei's and other goodies into the crowd.
As the hot dog neared the stage, an instrumental version of "Meatstick" came over the PA. Once the hotdog reached the stage, the band disembarked carrying several meatsticks which were fed to Father Time, reviving him so that the clock could continue moving towards midnight.
^ - instrumental version with the band picking up the song from a pre-recorded version played over the PA for the last 45 seconds of the year
^^ - with vocal/instrumental jam as Trey, Mike and Page sang the notes as they played them
^^^ - recorded live for ABC TV's Millennium coverage (aired between
3:15 and 3:30am EST); Trey instructed the crowd to chant the word "Cheesecake" rather than clap and cheer at the close of the song in an attempt to confuse the TV viewers (similar to the "secret language" additions for the 1992 NYE show); Trey introduced the band for the recorded footage and offered a message of peace and love for the world about the importance of the left lane of the highway being the passing lane
% - with "Cheesecake" vocal jam
%% - Trey solo acoustic
%%% - from "The Siket Disc" with Mike holding up a voice box repeating
the phrase "Quadrophonic Toppling"
%%%% - with Jon on vacuum; Jon introduced Page before the song and Mike
and Trey afterwards, and the band as being Phish 2000
$ - no encore; post-show music over the PA was the Beatles "Here Comes the Sun"

cruising in a golf cart in the lot forshadowed it. The relationship came about
when Trey and Kid Rock met at a post-Grammy party earlier this year.
# Aerosmith cover, first time played
## Sugarhill Gang cover, first time played. Trey on drums, Fishman briefly played
Trey's guitar and was rapping with Kid Rock. At the end Kid Rock yelled
"You want some rock n roll?!" and then went into the AC/DC classic
### AC/DC cover, second time played since its debut 4/20/89, Full Moon At The Zoo, Amherst College show
(after a fire alarm during Fluffhead, Phish came back onstage and debuted "You Shook Me" and then
segued back into the unfinished Fluffhead)

# = There is a ~20 second gap during Outside Inside. However, this cut was a result of the entire PA power cutting out. During those 4 seconds, there was no sound coming through the
stacks on the stage either. Tapers using mics will have a similar "cut" in their tapes save for the faint drum beat and the crowd's reaction when the sick jam suddenly cut out completely

I compared this to Fox's tubes, Don's Schoeps and the FOB Neumann rig and I liked these much better.. There was a dropout in MSTM and one in Love Tractor(from Julian's Master) so I spliced it from fox's tubes(about 1 sec each splice). Hope those that waited are satisfied.. Taped by Julian Eldridge(thanks!). Converted, patched and seeded by Alan Schwartz.
Oh, and I left Burnin' Down the House as filler(from the aftershow music).. wsp00-12-31BDTH.. Don't burn it if you don't want it - should go at the end of disc 4.
