| Notes | After the first night at the Gramercy Theater sold out, Belly added a second show at the same venue two nights later; Tanya's voice probably could have used the night off — as she noted, she was battling laryngitis here — but she gave it her best shot, and Gail helped out with extra harmonies and extra banter. (Not a hardship for Gail, certainly.) Openers the Parkington Sisters joined in on vocals, keyboards, and violins (two of them!) from "Shiny One" through "Low Red Moon." Setlist was a nice trip through Belly's three albums, plus a couple of songs from their upcoming (hopefully, someday) fourth. I ended up in the seating area at the back of the venue for this one, and worried I should have brought more directional mics, but the room sound was good and a little post-production EQ turned out to be enough to get a very satisfying result from the binaurals. Tanya couldn't hit all her usual high notes, but she did a great job of adjusting her vocals on the fly, and the band was in fine form. Hopefully she'll be all recovered for the West Coast leg opening for the Breeders, go see that if you possibly can, both bands are terrific right now. |
