| Notes | ninjadave tweak of Lampinski 24/96 master (TRT 46:17) Original Flac -> Wave -> Edits -> Flac 8 (Audition 3.01/Traders Little Helper) ************TWEAK by ninjadave**************************************************************** I thought the recording, although extrememly good, suffered from low volume and based upon review of the wave file, that was the case. The left and right channels were out of balance as well. And when I say out of balance, it is an understatement of the highest degree. I have never seen a show this out of balance where within EACH song, the volume fluctuates between the left and the right nearly every 30 sec/minute. Based upon some of the chatter during the show, it sounds like he had the mics hanging or exposed or maybe the recorder out since someone says something like "what is that?" and a dude says "leave that alone". I initially did a balancing of each track and then I bumped the overall volume for each track about +3.5-4.0dbs. At this level, there was still plenty of headroom. After doing this and listening back to it however, it still sounded off so I went and checked the wavs closer and I noticed that within the tracks, the levels where still off between the channels. I repaired the glaring ones and the show is better for it and more consistent. Bastille Day is a hot mess reguardless as he was clearly setting up and the phasing and level flucuations are pretty noticiable. These are not a result of my tinkering and frankly some of those got fixed. Along with that, there were a couple really loud parts (but not very long) that I adjusted down slightly before the intial overall bump. This brings out the claps (some of the bigger ones I knocked down) and "apparent" noise/phasing but I think this was a good trade off for a show that initially sounded a bit distant -> which is now, more in your face. No EQ applied anywhere - the volume bump was all it needed and its a tiny bit brighter now but very well balanced IMO. The seat altercation at the end of Xanadu and the constant "SIT THE FUCK DOWN!" are hilarous by the way. :) You can tell Dan had the mics exposed/out at times (so maybe they were blocked at times?) where it sounds better than other parts. It appears he either gave up due to the distractions or just went with the 45min tape side (even though this show is slightly over that). The speed seems good to me. This is both odd and depressing - as I would have loved to know what else they played this night. The performance is pretty good and Geds voice sounds great. My guess is since they did open the show, they probably played the WM>FbN>ItM>Drums encore after 2112, which puts the show near 1 hr but its possible they ended it with 2112. I guess we will never know as I don't think any other truncated shows like this exist for the AFTK tour. |
