| Tech Notes | Return to Forever Ebbets Field House Denver, Colorado June 4, 1973 lineage for re-seed 2022-source 2022-reseed from Dime share dating back 6-7 years ago by mr. mags and agalli> lineage from that seeding below> flac files re-encoded, checksums and torrent created in TLH> Dime I first saw RTF on a double bill with Larry Coryell and Offering at a small club in Greenwich Village when I was 16 or 17. Those were heady times with other firsts like seeing Mahavishnu and Weather Report, while also rushing off to see Yes, King Crimson, or Gentle Giant. Definitely game changers for me and many others back then. I was checking any good sounding shows I had from that period for possible re-seeds when I came across this. It sparked my interest right away because Daryll Brown was drumming. He was in RTF? He sure was. Very interesting in that he also played with Weather Report live, but he never went into the studio with either band. He does a fine job here as he shares percussion duties with Mingo Lewis. Not sure how or why he came and went from RTF. The earlh gig I saw myself had Steve Gadd drumming, and of course there originally had been Airto, and later Lenny White. The added plus with any RTF from this era is Bill Connors, who I always liked more than the celebrated Mr. Dimeola. The Vulcan Worlds, Pharoah Kings, No Mystery's, and Romantic Warriors all were to come, and to great acclaim, but there was something about Connor's string bending and phase shifter that always resonated with me-along with the material from Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy. Another interesting thing about this show is that the band is still featuring things from the Airto/Flora/Joe Farrell RTF. You'll actually here Chick say that this gig has them playing Hymn of the Seventh Galaxy for the very first time. You'll see below a reference to a version of this that michaelmee and Fekete had shared, but this seemingly more complete one came from mr. mags and agalli. Thanks to the mr. mags/agalli combo for all of the fine shows they've brought our way. What separates it from the other one that was shared by Michael Mee (and a remastered version by Fekete) is that "Sometime Ago" is complete and the sound here might be better- IMO. Thanks to agalli for sending this to me. enjoy, mr_mags https://sites.google.com/site/returntoforevershows/home/rtf_1973" |
