| Notes | This edition now presents a complete tuned file set. Many thanks to all those whose sources provided the various parts. Regarding noises - Where removing a click simply left a different flaw behind, it was decided to let the click remain. If I missed one or two fixable ones, please forgive... there was quite a number of them! Attempts at hum removal also took away too much of each instrument's lows in addition and a decision was also then made to leave it in and let the listener's ear tune it out as the music progresses. It also comes and goes in intensity although it's a constant if you listen closely. I'm fine with it now, and I hope you will be too. This is already quite far from being a perfect archive. ;) To read about the people, times and places surrounding this great exploratory musical period of Herbie's journey, please pick up a copy of Bob Gluck's definitive book on the subject, "You'll Know When You Get There: Herbie Hancock and the Mwandishi Band". It's not only a great reference, but it's a great read as well. I'd also recommend listening to Hancock's Warner Bros. albums from around this time, released in the 2-CD set 'Mwandishi' or you'll find it streaming. And check out Herbie's "Sextant" as well which wasn't on Warner Bros. but Columbia, released a month or so after this concert took place. This concert's opening track "Hidden Shadows" is from that album. Additionally, Eddie Henderson's own "Realization" release, with that title composition played live here, carries on more of this vibe and is another personal favorite... Goody - April 18, 2025 |
