Notes
We are pleased to continue our series of releases from a long time West Coast taper/collector that passed away last year. He transferred his extensive archives to CDR years prior to his passing and then passed it to a close friend. His friend has been involved in the Bay area music scene for the last five plus decades and understands the importance of getting these historic shows out to the collector’s community. We are working closely reviewing the shows and researching current circulation as well as upgrades.

We temporarily take a break from the fabulous riches of Carlos Santana to a real rarity featuring Carlos' brother Jorge Santana's band Malo.

Very much in the same vein as Santana though with an added horn section ala Blood, Sweat & Tears and Chicago, Malo featured some of the very best musicians in the San Francisco scene.

According to WBGO radio host, musician and band leader Bobby Sanabria, Malo's sound can be summed up as..."picture Blood Sweat & Tears fused with Chicago, fused with Afro-Cuban rhythms and guitar driven rock. It was Santana on steroids." Maybe not quite "santana on steroids" but you get the picture.

Their January 1972 release, "Suavecito"", stayed in the Billboard Top 20 for 10 weeks peaking at #18.

Jorge passed away on May 14, 2020 of natural causes at the young age of 68.

This is the second Malo show to hit dime, the first being their set from the 1971 Fillmore West closing FM broadcast banned for containing "Pana" which made it onto the official release.

There are a number of folks we are indebted to for access to this exciting new archives, the anonymous West Coast collector, may he rest in peace, his friend that had the motivation and understands the need to get these historically important shows into circulation before they were lost forever and a huge thanks to dime member “davmar77”. He did not currently have the bandwidth to facilitate such an undertaking at this time and put us in touch...this is how dime should work.

And finally, a big thanks to Goody, our pitch master, for his continued to support of all our historic releases.

Dimers don't wait until it's too late to get those archives into , we are here to assist getting your precious archives out for all to enjoy...and let's work to have No Tape Left Behind.
