Tech Notes Stan Getz Sextet - 1981 - Enschede (The Netherlands)

The Stan Getz Sextet at "De Twentse Schouwburg" in Enschede, the Netherlands, for Dutch TROS radio (program Sesjun), 1981. They had arrived in Enschede with some delay from Marseille, France, that night, but enough in time for the live broadcast for c. one hour.

Didn't write on the tape box the exact concert date in 1981, but probably somewhere in the 6-wk-period mid September-October and most likely a date in October (couldn't find any reference in my Dutch jazz journals of the time, but early September 1981 Getz was still in Japan). After this concert, they would do two more concerts in the Netherlands (and perhaps still more in other places), but (from the announcements - what Getz had told the mc) they would return to France to make a recording there: the rather obscure session in Paris on November 4, 1981, producing the album "Billy Highstreet Samba" and first released in the US in 1990. This CD, however, is without any additional info, other than tune titles, personnel, and recording date. At some point, you can hear Getz announce the track "Bitter Sweet", but on the "Samba" CD this particular tune has been renamed "Billy Highstreet Samba" dedicated to Getz's personal and European road manager Bill Hoogstraten.

Enjoy!
