However, the date was always marked as questionable for a variety of reasons. A comparision between the content of this tape and what's already circulating led to the discovery that the content of first part of the recording matched with the audience tape labeled as 1969 08 06 Highland Park. The rest of the tape may well be from different dates but it's very likely all from the same show. Two clues: on the preamble before "Status Back Baby" FZ says they're playing in a rural area and on the polling before "Wipe Out" he mentions they had already played "Louie Louie", which happens as part of the "Passacaglia" medley. However, the datation of the brief instrumental run-through of "Lucille" at the beginning of the recording is still uncertain: my personal opinion is that it comes from a soundcheck/rehearsal but it's currently impossible to know. "Redneck Eats" appears twice in the setlist but so it does on the 1969 04 25 tape. Also, although this was listed as a Stage recording, it's no doubt a SBD recording: in fact, I believe this is a high generation copy of a Dick Kunc tape. Though it has some tape damage, the clarity is much more defined here than on any other stage recording, the audience is audible here while it's usually distant on SBD tapes and, most importantly, the stereo placement also seems to match with the Kunc tapes: compare it with the live version of "Uncle Meat" on "Meat Light" recorded at the Columbia University during this timeframe. I also decided to upgrade the sound rating a little bit: though it has some tape damage (bleed-through on the final part of the recording) and the bits where the tape gets played back at a higher speed are very annoying, the quality is better than most of the shows rated B+. If you know what you're doing, you can easily do some EQ on the left channel and boost it up a bit and the sound noticeaby improves even more. For this seed, a patch from a section present on the audience tape but missing from the SBD recording was included. The sound quality of the audience tape is quite poor so this is not the smoothest transition you'll ever hear but it works fine. Some retracking was also made. Compared to the previous Birmingham seed two tracks at the beginning of the tape that were marked as 'Improvisation' are missing here: these have been found to be matching with other available tapes and will be adressed there. All in all, this is one of the tapes to get from The Mothers era. A good representation of their final days and a fine performance, including a great version of "The Orange County Lumber Truck" medley, some interesting improvisations and a great Boogie in G plus some funny FZ banter.
